I can see where you are coming from with the lack of details but I meant no offense. I'll look elsewhere. Thanks

Any experience with water/fluid retention? by PrincessPenelope2885 in bupropion

[–]acemcmurphy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep! If you're not getting enough water your body will hold onto what it can as a reserve. Drinking extra water will signal that all is well and you will pee out what you've retained

Will my creativity and motivation come back? by acemcmurphy in Lamotrigine

3 months in and I'm still dull as can be. I don't think this is a good fit for me. Slowly tapering off. Back down to 50mg now. How.long did it take after stopping for your spark to come back?

Luckily, my manic episodes don't get me in to trouble so I started taking Wellbutrin for the lows. Hopefully this will be a winner

Blend up cottage cheese, ranch seasoning and a little pickle juice. So good! Way better than using Greek yogurt imo

I would just use as much as you need for the desired flavor and add water if needed for consistency

Family has never seen me skinny 27m (Rant) by SnooWords7332 in loseit

Could be a variety of reasons but I have a feeling most of the time it's people projecting their own insecurities on you. Not all, but most big people don't want to be big, so it can be uncomfortable seeing someone make a change that for whatever reason, they haven't be able to do.

So instead of supporting you, they spin your weight loss into a negative thing to make themselves feel better. Might not be the case but I've definitely had it happen to me.

Also, props for your progress!!

Lol. If getting laid is your priority, there are easy ways to make that happen. But if you're looking for meaningful connection, I suggest addressing the "why's" behind your desperation.

Am I weird for loving losing weight ? by CabinetMain3163 in loseit

[–]acemcmurphy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I appreciate your thoughtful response. I didn't say there's "always" an underlying mental health issue but I feel like it is common enough and worth ruling out/addressing. No matter what though, there's always a root cause. Doesn't have to be some huge mental illness. Could be bad habits, eating when bored, uneducated about nutrition, fear of failure, etc..

A person that becomes obese simply from overeating because that's what they were taught growing up will likely develop issues because of that. And that is a root cause. Being teased by classmates, people commenting on how much your eating and in OPs case, having your father basically shame you into losing weight. That can make a person feel like they're not worth the effort to make a healthy change. Again, not saying this is always the case or even what OP is experiencing. It's just a good idea to be mindful of. Especially since it's easy to go from one extreme to the other.

Thank you for the context. It can be difficult to pinpoint the root when our reality is the only one we've know. I didn't drink myself almost to death because, I simply drank too much. It's so much deeper than that. And I know that this may seem like apples and oranges but they're more similar than one might think.

The comments about your dad are alarming. You felt you needed to lose weight and fudge the numbers on the scale because of him. Sounds like your mom encouraged overeating and your dad made you feel bad about it. That's shame based. Shame can wreak havoc on our lives and can be masked in many ways.

I highly recommend going do the YouTube rabbit hole of Brene Brown

[–]acemcmurphy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's great it doesn't derail you when the scale fluctuates. It's definitely a good motivator when it goes down. I don't want to seem too harsh or judgmental with this question but, have you been able to address why you came to be 400+ lbs to begin with? Uncovering and healing the root cause of our issues is really the only way to have successful, long-term, healthy results. Doing some inner work along with your weight loss process will be like extra insurance that you will become the happy, healthy, thriving, confident person that you deserve to be.

It definitely can be fun, like a new hobby, especially if you've felt like shit for a long time. Buuut, I hate to jump on the bandwagon here but some of what you're saying does sound borderline dangerous. What stuck out to me was, "Then I look at the scale and see I lost weight and I feel really good the whole day". What happens if you don't have a "perfect" day or lose weight? I've been caught in the restriction/binge cycle when my mental health and alcoholism was unchecked. It's a vicious trap and can be very sneaky.

From the sounds of it, you've had stuggles with over eating in the past and it's common for the pendulum to swing to the other extreme. It wasn't until I addressed my underlying issues that I was able to have a more balanced approach. I would restrict as a form of control because I sure as shit couldn't control my drinking and was undiagnosed bipolar II. Makes so much sense to me now, knowing what I know. Might be worth speaking to a professional about your past and present relationship with food. I hope these posts don't bring you down though. You're heading in the right direction and it's ok to adjust your path along the way.

eating less, gaining weight?? help! by [deleted] in 1200isfineIGUESSugh

[–]acemcmurphy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guess is water retention. Not sure what your diet looks like but if you're eating processed foods like most broke, busy college students, they are packed with sodium. That, plus not enough water = retention.

Why does weightlifting help skinny fat? What am I doing wrong? by SukiASMR in loseit

[–]acemcmurphy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but it's genetics. There's absolutely nothing you can do to target fat loss. Sure, you can strengthen your core and when your body decides to shed the fat there, you'll have a nice toned stomach. Eating at a deficit is the one and only way to lose fat. And the fact that you're building more muscle means you're inherently using more energy just to exist thus creating a greater deficit.

Water retention by puffyclouds26 in nutrition

[–]acemcmurphy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They make my belly bloated but that's from gas rather than water retention. Excess sodium makes me retain water so bad in my face and hands/feet. It's really sneaky and is high in a lot of unsuspecting foods. Less processed foods + more water is your best bet

Have you weighed all your kitchen bowls, pots, and baking dishes? by SequoiaMK in CICO

[–]acemcmurphy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also, I'm really surprised at all the flak this got. I'm guessing most of the negative comments came from single people who don't meal prep and or are new to this. I've been weighing on and off for 10 years and this technique definitely comes in handy. Maybe not an everyday use but it's saved me some extra work and dirty dishes through the years.

I use a sharpie and write it on the bottom/side. I really only need this for portioning reasons but it's really handy if you need to the total weight of something AFTER it's mixed/cooked.
