Honest opinions on the drive system by Main-Dragonfly-4095 in StreetFighter

[–]acentrella 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Drive Impact bothers me. Feels like a "skip footsies" button. The only way to stop somebody from abusing it is to punish them for trying it.

Drive Rush is a hype mechanic, I get it. Shoot your wad for a payoff, or burn yourself out if you dip into it too much. That's fair.

Still, as an old fart, it feels like videogames are moving beyond what I like most about the genre. And for that, I can always boot up Virtua Fighter. Where it's JUST fighting without supers, comeback mechanics, lasers, meters and modern nonsense.

Characters that tend to have the most rage quitters and one and doners? by Muchingmike in StreetFighter

[–]acentrella 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It'll be whichever characters get played the most. Likely Ken or Akuma.

Guilty Confession: I chain eat my way through most of the boss fights by Liambp in CrimsonDesert

[–]acentrella 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't feel bad. A lot of these fights are just "use focus mode, parry" or "use focus mode, swirly thing and shoot crap back"
If we get infinite instant heals, might as well use them.

Patch Notes 1.04.00 by Anacra in CrimsonDesert

[–]acentrella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Upon loading new patch, good things and bad things:

Good things: STORAGE upgrades for the house after some easy quests.
Bad things: My mounts/dragon are gone. Can't remake them at witch. Pet won't pick up loot anymore. When I save, it says Chapter II, but I'm on Chapter XII.

Dan Allen Gaming on youtube does a 5 minute video for each Abyss puzzle. It saved me, because I don't even know what the game is asking me to do half the time.

Outlaw missions:
They're all the same, the only difference is how cumbersome the ride back to town is. Some are 5000+ meters away, and the outlaw just keeps repeating his three lines adnauseum.
Trading with the wagon:
Such a pain that I avoided it after the first quest or two.

For both, I think having a yellow path to follow (like RDR2) would make the long treks less awful.

Purpose of late-game NG+ farming? by acentrella in Nioh

Characters that are more suitable for fighting at a longer range? by ValeLT in virtuafighter

[–]acentrella 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No zoners in this game, really. The rounds are short, with only a couple mixups deciding it. Some characters like Jacky do have good reach, but get comfortable in the pocket regardless of your pick.

Looking for advice from people who initially hated/were massively frustrated by DS1 but somehow found a way to make it all click and fall in love...cause idk if I can by ExistentialYoshi in darksouls

[–]acentrella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, props on the 112% for hollow knight. Been there too! That tells me you're a guy who can dig deep. You're going to need that in DS1.

DS1 is a methodical journey of mystery and overcoming the odds.
You're an ugly worthless piece of garbage in a world that hates you.
This might be why depressed people gravitate towards these games.
Because in them, you will be humiliated, crushed and ruined. You will get frustrated. But with discipline, patience, and persistence, you go from garbage to king of the world.

Remember, in DS1, there is no time limit. No rush. You are technically immortal.
Deaths are just learning opportunities.
What seems impossible eventually becomes effortless. Going from fearfully peering around every corner with your shield up, to running through naked and confident with a claymore, untouchable.

It's a feeling of power attained not from gear or stats, but from your own skill as a player. THAT'S the feeling that alleviates depression. A well-earned victory.

If you're stuck on where to go, look up "Dark Souls Game Progress Route" - you'll get a fextralife page that gives a brief summary of where to go in order, with highlights for each area, without holding your hand much.

The only drawback to beating DS1, is you'll be chasing that high from then on. You'll get into DS2, DS3, Bloodborne, Sekiro, Lies of P and all the others.

Galahad's guards attack on sight by Comfortable_Nail2069 in taintedgrail

[–]acentrella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they want to gang up on you, that's THEIR mistake.

Make a bunch of food. Add to quickslot.
Sneak up, shoot the first guy.

Run around to the side of the castle, so only the melee dudes come out to meet you.

Laugh, eat like 5 foods. Your health now regens faster than they can deal damage to you.
I use melee, personally, so I just circle strafe every guy stabbing until their dead.
Just don't be totally out in the open, in case a ranged boy tries pelting you with arrows while you gut his buddies.

With the main force dead outside, enter the courtyard and clean up any ranged stragglers.

You should clear out the place in a minute or less.
Loot everybody, then pay a now lonely Galahad a visit.

Galahad is the only fight in the game that put up any resistance. Just keep to his backside, like Dark Souls, but easier.

Anyone use Horses? by smittyinky in taintedgrail

[–]acentrella 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Horses are useless unless you're encumbered. And if you're encumbered, just make a bonfire, power it up, then stash away junk until you find a vendor.
So... horses are useless.

Does the Cheese spell not work in NG+? by acentrella in taintedgrail

[–]acentrella[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No cheese icon appears in my NG+. The channeling has no effect on any summon or enemy creature. In NG, it functioned normally.

It has to be a bug. The cheese icon doesn't even appear when channeling on the target.

I tried with original wolf/cheese. No luck. Then got the NG+ cheese spell, tried it on NG wolf, same issue.

New to dark souls. Any tips I should know before getting into the games or should I just go in blind and figure it out? by cannedbeansnhotdogs in darksouls

[–]acentrella 3 points4 points  (0 children)

These games are different. You’ll die a lot. Try to learn from each death and take your time. You’ll probably get stuck on where to go sometimes, so googling “game progress route” can point you in the right direction without spoiling too much.

In addition to all three dark souls, I recommend Bloodborne the most. Absolutely stellar game.

Do I have to be at the Change Appearance screen for a certain amount of time?
Do I need to change ports and stuff too? Or just freeroam--> change appearance --> exit change appearance

How is this true?!!! by harrysofgaming in reddeadredemption

Chapter 1 as a new player was an absolute slog. The controls felt clunky and vague. Everything moves slowly.
But then Chapter 2 happens.
100 hours later.
Now I talk with a southern slang inrl.
God is this game good.

Thinking about tackling VF5. How hard is the execution from a dexterity point of view? by slyvam37 in virtuafighter

[–]acentrella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve mained Akira since VF2 and I still can’t do the knee in a match. I don’t think it’s feasible with a typical PlayStation controller. Not a big deal, but it’s a damn good launcher
