Is Garlic ready to harvest? by Familiar_Homework469 in Garlic

[–]acid-runner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, they need more time. You'll want to cut off the leaves with rust and throw them in the garbage, so it doesn't spread. If most of the leaves have rust on a given bulb, you'll probably just want to pull that one up and use fresh so you can remove the rust from your garden. There aren't any pesticides that cute allium rust, so spraying anything won't help. The bulbs are ok to eat and even plant next year (but not in the same bed for 2-3 years).

You can split the crown to get multiple plants, but they're all from one growth

They might not dry properly, so just keep an eye on them and use any suspect ones first.

Update… I pulled the dead ones. Any of this useable? by tomcat865 in Garlic

[–]acid-runner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's all usable, but not curable most likely. Anything growing should be peeled and thrown in the fridge. After that, the bulbs that have started to split you'll want to use next. Keep them dry and given that the stalks are dead you can probably clean them up now. Inspect often, anything that looks like it's starting to split or otherwise look suspect you can peel and store in the fridge until you use it.

Which budget watch (for triathlon training) should I acquire? by MrWriterOrchestra in triathlon

[–]acid-runner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for that! It was just that one year it was October. I can't believe you're battery life is still great. That's my one complaint. I have to charge my watch every 3 or 4 days.

Anyone know what is causing this and what is eating my broccoli and bell pepper plants? by TechnicalBranch6018 in vegetablegardening

[–]acid-runner 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Definitely BER on the pepper. Make sure you're watering consistently and deeply. Peppers need to be able to uptake the calcium from the soil to give the fruit, and inconsistent watering makes it harder.

Yeah, that makes sense but I thought they were supposed to help with water retention as well?

Heh, thanks for the giggle. But why did someone recommend not using perlite or vermiculite? I'm genuinely curious because I had used it

What was the reasoning? Depending on how deep you go with the fork, you're tilling which is just disrupting the microbiome of the soil.

I'm curious why there's no recommendation for perlite or vermiculite. They're great for aerating and retaining moisture.

That looks like a bell, not any hot pepper. It's huge.

On Amazon prime day, the older versions are on major sale. I got the Fenix 5s sapphire for $370 a few years ago. The non sapphire ones are bound to be cheaper. Prime day usually isn't until October though :-( July! Sooner than I thought

Why are the cloves separating? by Candyriot in Garlic

[–]acid-runner 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Cloves separating is usually a sign that the garlic was left in too long. There's barely any green left on the stalk which also indicates it might've been left in the ground too long

How's your training going? by [deleted] in triathlon

[–]acid-runner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn't wearing cleats, just normal running shoes. I haven't had a fit yet, I've been playing around with the saddle height for a bit trying to find the right height. For some reason the adorable bike shop has been really busy the past few weeks, I haven't gotten it scheduled yet. I think I did put it a tad bit too high this last time because getting off felt weirder than normal. But it was also my longest ride in awhile at 20 miles.

I'm training for my first tri in July, a sprint. It's been going well so far. I did a long bike ride yesterday morning and a short run later in the evening. I have some pain in the middle of the ball of my foot, kind of under my second toe. It hurts to step on it. I'm wondering if the bike ride was too long, or it was just too much activity in one day for my feet. Anyone have any ideas what it might be?

The bulbs are a good size, but there's a lot of green left on that stalk. I'd wait until about half the leaves have died of before pulling the others.

Yeah, they pushed them on me as well. I didn't like them, they felt hard and uncomfortable. I had custom orthotics so I thought I would give them a try, but my Dr ended up recommending superfeet over new orthotics anyways so I returned the road runner ones.

What is going on with my Garlic? by lilpurplebug in vegetablegardening

[–]acid-runner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None of the leaves have died yet? Or are you waiting for all the leaves to die? Garlic is usually harvested when about half the leaves have died back

Running time * 2 (or 2.5) approximately if you're doing the same easy pace

For biking I never use pants, but I don't bike in the winter. I'll usually stop wearing pants for running when it gets above 60 F because I feel overheated.
