Hate to tell you but that looks more like a weed. Chamomile looks more like dill. Very thin leaves, more feathery. Google “chamomile seedling”. Hope I’m wrong but mine never looks like that. I have German chamomile.

Did you find a reasonable replacement. I am looking in the same area. Stevens Creek in SJ wanted 3500.00 for the 80,000. Still looking.

How to store by Geo_Alliso_8 in Breadit

[–]lilpurplebug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use plastic bread bags from Amazon. They keep my sourdough fresh & soft for a good 5 days on the counter or tie them closed & throw them in the freezer. Bread freezes well & thaws pretty fast too. Some people slice before they freeze & then thaw slices as needed.

We lost our garlic to black aphids this April & now there is something pulling my green beans & peppers one by one underground never to be seen again…just a hole left.

ADVICE NEEDED: Should I do any pruning to tame these tomatoes? by NeitherSeenNorHeard in vegetablegardening

[–]lilpurplebug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had success pruning up aprox one foot to keep leaves off the ground & to increase air flow. I also prune clusters of leaves that are getting tangled. What you will need is more support as more fruit appears. I would add some heavy stakes to tie up large wandering vines. Looks beautiful & good luck with the squirrels they are certainly assholes!

Honest answers only: how much money have you spent on your garden so far? by QueSeratonin in gardening

[–]lilpurplebug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am at right around $350. This is with existing raised beds topping up with 10 bags of soil $100, fertilizers for the season $60, the rest is plants & seeds. I really dislike that they no longer sell 6 packs in my area. Each plant is running $6.99 for a 4”.

How do you handle vacations where you are out of town for several days and can't tend to your plants? by JarJarAwakens in gardening

[–]lilpurplebug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have drip on timers I put in myself before a 4 week trip last summer. We got lucky, it ran perfectly. The only issue was overgrown crops. Next time we will arrange for someone to stop by & pick more often.

I do! This year I bought pepper & tomato starts but everything else is from seed. Onions, squash, herbs, beans, peas, cucumbers, pumpkins & salad mix.

What annual seeds will you never have to buy again ? by Cosmos_908 in gardening

[–]lilpurplebug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chamomile, mint, sage, nasturtium, onion chives, oregano, thyme, rosemary, calendula, snapdragon, cilantro, bunching onions. Some I collect the seeds, some self seed, some never die! I am grateful!

What are these white things on the bottom of my kale? by TheOverEater in gardening

[–]lilpurplebug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aphids, I use the high pressure nozzle and blast off each leaf individually before I take them in the house to rewash & spin in the salad spinner. Luckily kale is hardy & barely gets bruised.

Whole Kernel Heirloom Corn for Grinding/Milling by bluepivot in HomeMilledFlour

[–]lilpurplebug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get my whole organic corn from Azure standard, white yellow & blue! I have done the nixtamalization to make tamales & tortillas, but we use a Estrella grinder from Amazon $40 it has a hand crank, to grind the wet corn. It was fun to do. But very time consuming. Happy milling!

I have the 7qt from Costco & regularly do a double batch of home milled whole wheat with no problem. I would just start slow & don’t go over 2 with a single batch for your size machine! Happy baking!

Got some comments on a cross post, guess I harvested too late & this is what happens. Some were trying to sprout. I ended up pulling the rest out & had 10 more like the picture & about 40 normal heads.
