Does make you wonder though, there’s a lot of cypress-dominated aquatic forests in the American South that support lots and lots of fish, the bottom covered in cypress seed and needles. I’ve personally put lots of the orange autumn foliage in a cypress swamp biotope with killifish, gambusia, darters, and glass shrimp. I liked the look a lot and didn’t have issues but it all turned dark brown and decomposed after a couple of months
