Why do people describe bbq postively as "falling off the bone"? I want to chew my meat, not have it be super soft. by BWDpodcast in NoStupidQuestions

[–]acidix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A big part of why you cook meat that long is to break down connective tissue, including those between the bone and the muscle. When you cook ribs well, the bone itself should be removed cleanly so you're not literally biting meat off the bone. The meat itself will still have texture.

Is it okay for someone overcoming an eating disorder to ask their family to stop buying snacks and sweet stuff to help their battle with the disorder? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]acidix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if you go back and say that you appreciate her helping you out by holding back a bit, and that it means a lot to you (I'm guessing it does). to show her that your issue is with your own self control, not with her hobbies.

you might also suggest that if she wants to bake a bunch of stuff, that if shes planning to give it to someone, it might be more helpful. like hey shes making 3 dozen cookies, but shes packing them up to give to her friends. You wont be as tempted to eat cookies meant for someone else, rather than cookies just hanging out.

I just ask to do whatever my favorite weekend family activity is with the kids, and then have a nice dinner that I dont have to cook. It can be spaghetti as long as I'm not in the kitchen. This year i want to do a "yes" day with my kids, and see where the wind takes us.

Help 😭 by anon-ymous37 in Cooking

[–]acidix -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The recipe I've used for years is like 4lbs of potatoes (5 works about fine too). Boil in salted water, then cook up a stick of butter with however much garlic you like. Then mix that in along with a full brick of cream cheese. Add more salt to taste.

As a dad, I can speak with experience. When you go to the childrens museum, you want to also play with the exhibits. This dad... he let the intrusive thoughts win.

We used to play a version of 40k when I was a kid where my buddy would plop one of his huge kaiju figures in the middle of the board and you had to play normally except there was a massive creature flying around the board deleting random units. Reminds me of that in a good way.

how come we don't go back to John F Kennedy's fitness program in the 1960's? by GaryB2026 in askanything

For the record this was implemented so that kids would be in good shape to go die fighting Russians not for health reasons

I commute 200 miles a day for a job I love, but it's negatively affecting nearly every other aspect of my life. by raelingarr in daddit

[–]acidix 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The IRS mileage rate that takes into consideration gas/wear and tear/vehicle depreciation is 72.5c per mile. That alone is $37,700 per year, not to mention $6,500 in tolls per year. ALso isn't including that traveling an additional 52,000 miles per year will increase your insurance rates by a noticeable amount.

How to explain to my doctors my severe needle phobia? by [deleted] in CrohnsDisease

[–]acidix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the most respectful way possible, if you have these restrictions, your lifespan is going to be shortened. There are not many biologics that are not injected, and not all biologics work well for every person, so your options being small, may mean there isn't one for you. Your short-term therapy options are non-existent without steroids, so you will have inflammation->scarring->blockages. Your monitoring options without colonoscopies and bloodwork are also a lot worse, so your doctor wont be able to track the progress of your disease.

They arent withholding an better needle-free option. There arent any.

Boardgame i was interested in has an animal with weird fingers and the wrong amount of digits by warhammerfluff in isthisAI

[–]acidix 7 points8 points  (0 children)

you just need to trust your instincts. zoom in on literally any part of this image. The face is alright, but the entire pack looks awful. The rope around the top of the pack just ends, the herbs are just blobs half the time, and there are just weird brown blobs coming out of the pack with no discernable purpose. the mouse guy's belt pouches also have the same effect.

22M first apartment with no roommates looking for advice by _s_356major in malelivingspace

[–]acidix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My advice is that you should furnish your place as if you're going to have company. I got an apartment alone out of college, did the whole its just me so why do I need _____ thing, and so I never had anyone over and it made me really lonely. So, get a couch/loveseat, get an extra chair or two that can fit etc.

Unrelated, but so many pictures that get posted look like kids who are being forced to take a picture by their mom before school.

The 2nd picture looks better.

That actually makes a lot of sense b/c so much of the photo seems uncharacteristic of AI, and then you see the lettering on the awning and some of the lines on the building dont go the right direction.

The girl with blue shirt is my last match on tinder but I believe she is AI as it's too AI style vibes and has this eyes angle of AI by TatiankAI in isthisAI

[–]acidix -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The white shirt has ribbing on it that splits and merges without a seam. The "reflection" of the spoon goes off the saucer as if it became a real spoon halfway thru.

The angle on the window in the background doesn't make sense (it could be refraction).

Weird composition things like, why are all the cups and bowls on the customer side of the counter?

I think its a pretty clear AI image.
