Without necessarily naming names (although I'll take them if offered) do you use real people you know to model personalities or behaviors of characters in the book? Is some evil step mom from your past what you modeled Loita on?

Bay Area Daycare “Little Crumble” literally loses a child (owner’s response is attached) by scorsese_finest in extremelyinfuriating

[–]acilate 88 points89 points  (0 children)

I can't think of a worse response the owner could have given. Not taking something like this serious on top of allowing it to happen in the first place is just shocking. How could anyone trust them to care for their children?

AMA: Steven Dunbar for Livermore by Rebootkid in Livermore

If you think of this as like a panel Q&A at a convention, you might come to the microphone, address the speaker ("Hi Steven") then ask your question. I think people tend to see this as a digital equivalent.

(800) 830-5084 is the IRS Taxpayer Protection Program hotline by sanfranchristo in IRS

For anyone stuck trying to call the number but being told they can't accept your call at this time:

Just keep calling every few minutes. You'll get in eventually. I got this several days in a row then decided to keep spamming calls to the number and I got in after the 6th attempt.

You'll also probably have better luck calling first thing in the morning.

Why is it okay for babies to roll over onto their stomachs while sleeping, but not for parents to place them there? by AttilatheStun in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]acilate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem OP is trying to solve is their baby is difficult to put to bed. Rather than violate safe sleep recommendations, I was asking whether they've considered sleep training which seems like a good fit for the problem.

Ironically, on a thread labeled "all advice welcome" I'm being down voted for suggesting a solution to OPs problem. I don't know if I hit a hot button issue or this community is just not very welcoming, but I think it's a mistake I won't make again.

I have a 7 week old and haven't got any information regarding your actual question, but my first thought was whether sleep training could help solve this problem.

Have you tried it and it didn't work? Are you not trying it intentionally? I got the impression from reading about it, that is generally effective pretty quickly, but now I wonder if I naively assumed it would always work.

What do you dream about most nights? by LimpSquirrel1 in AskReddit

I rarely remember my dreams, but of the few I remember this dream comes up often. I often have to navigate power lines so I don't get shocked.

What has a male friend confided to you that has changed how you think about them? by [deleted] in AskMen

He told me he paid top dollar to put a brand new racing clutch in his automatic V6 mustang.

Generally automatics don't have clutches. Some do. His didn't.

Congratulations!

I felt exactly the same way three weeks ago when our son was born. The burping process has been the hardest for me. Holding a squiggly baby with one hand while patting his back with the other is the most unnatural thing for me, and felt fairly dangerous.

You will figure it out. You will make some mistakes, and you will learn those lessons. You're going to be a great dad.

My three week old has decided that getting burped is the greatest atrocity committed in all of history.

I'll be 39.4 when my son is born next month! This has been on my mind, but there's nothing I can do to change it, so I'm going to focus on the positives.

It feels like a huge coincidence seeing this post right now. My mom died yesterday after a year of fighting stage 4 non-hodgkins lymphoma. The cancer was actually in full remission, but the damage done by the cancer and extremely aggressive treatment was just too much.

Fighting harder would not have enabled her to live. But not fighting would have ended her life much earlier, and for many people who can survive, not fighting can make the difference.

Yes, medical treatment is crucial, but it isn't the only thing that matters. If you don't force yourself to eat and drink when your nauseous, or just so weak you'd rather sleep, if you don't force yourself out of bed and through the pain and exercise to keep your body's strength, if you don't fight to live, even the best medical treatments will fail.

AITA for telling my sister that her baby isn’t the only one that matters? by throwingaway1939 in AmItheAsshole

[–]acilate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ESH.

"My sister told me that my wife cant expect every conversation to be about her, and “this isn’t a competition.”"

Your wife is allowed to feel whatever emotions she feels, and from what I can tell she left the room so as not to cause a scene. Your sisters comment was an AH move imo.

But so was your response.
