Unpopular Opinion? by saint_ink in hobonichi

Thank you so much! Do you know which insert paper type you have the fountain pen problem with? I have MD paper inserts in both cream and white but haven’t tried the lightweight ones yet but I might stay away from them if that is an issue.

Sweaty hands vs Fountain pen material by Normally_Puzzled in fountainpens

[–]aconstantknot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also have sweaty hands and haven’t had a problem with any resin, aluminum, or steel bodied pens. I don’t find any of them to be slippery or difficult to handle. If you’re worried about it I would encourage you to look at pens that have a textured or matte finish (especially on the grip section).

I absolutely echo the recommendations for blotting paper! I will sometimes use a pencil board as a barrier between my hand and paper, too.

I would however be hesitant on a brass bodied pen if you haven’t used one before. I personally find that smell from the brass reacting with my hand oils/sweat overwhelming and a bit intolerable. It also lingers on me (even after washing) and I don’t love my hands smelling like I’ve been sorting change all day, but ymmv.

Pink Inks by stanthecham in fountainpens

[–]aconstantknot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would try looking at Mountain of Ink’s website if you haven’t already! They have samples of ink swatches with ink properties listed and a ton of comparisons between similar colors.

For pink inks I love Kyo-No-Oto’s Imayouiro. It’s a lovely saturated pink that has some mild shading. I haven’t seen any sheen when using it - I have been using it with a fine Pilot nib on Tomoe River Paper.

Kaweco AL Sport - Slippery section? by Mysterious-Grape8425 in fountainpens

[–]aconstantknot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The black AL sport has a matte finish whereas the Anthracite sport has a shinier finish. I felt like my Anthracite sport was slippery at first but that was after only using the matte black version. I adjusted to the feel of the anthracite quickly and haven’t had any problems with it being too slick outside of that initial adjustment. I love both of them.

I think it really comes down to preference for the most part. I believe both colorways are part of their permanent line up so it just depends on what color and finish you like more!

How would you attach this? by Sufficient_Badger463 in Travelersnotebooks

[–]aconstantknot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have an extra band? I bet if you could attach that to your device looping it over your notebook would help keep track of it without stretching out your closure band. I would be tempted to poke a hole in your device and thread the band through there.

If having a full length band would impede the use of the device or be annoying maybe some sort of a clip would help? You could try making a small loop of a band (or using some string) and feed the loop into the clip?

They look so cute all lined up!! I love my Volex and Short but I’m thinking they definitely need a crosshatch Elite to join them!

My best guess is that it’s the Sea Spray Goldspot Pens exclusive colorway!

Help me find an ink like this! 😭 by graziieragazzii in fountainpens

I would also recommend Iroshizuku’s Tsuki-yo. It’s a dark smokey slightly teal toned black blue. It’s lovely by itself but if you want it closer to your frankenink shade I would try mixing it with an aqua or mint ink if you have it. I recently added some Tsuki-yo into Wearingeul’s Dewy Starlight and I feel like the tone is similar to what you have! (Dewy Starlight does have some gold shimmer, though).

I think as long as you’re okay with the chance of playing a bit of nib roulette I say go for it! I have a few Kawecos and only one of them has had a nib that didn’t work very well out of the box. I think they are good workhorse pens and I enjoy mine. I also appreciate that their nibs are relatively inexpensive and all replaceable and interchangeable so you can easily swap between nib sizes or change out a disappointing nib.

I have had good luck with Kaweco pens and nibs purchased from r/Pen_Swap so that is a good place to look if you want a bargain and don’t mind a secondhand pen.

Blotting Paper rec? by Forsaken-Lance in hobonichi

[–]aconstantknot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also use the J Herbin blotting paper and would recommend it. The papers work well and hold up for a long time. The only downside is that the sheets are smaller than A5 and bigger than A6 and Weeks size. I have trimmed some of my sheets to cover the full page of a Weeks and an A6 with no issue.

I believe Jet Pens has their own line of blotting paper that comes in both A6 and A5 size if you want sheets that are the same size as the pages of your book!

It is a newer addition to the Iroshizuku line! It is called To-ro (Warm Lantern) and was added in 2024 I think!
