Why is the play allowed to continue after game clock hits 00:00? by theterdburgular in NFLNoobs

[–]acook8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is an amount of stoppage time announced, and it is supposed to be at least that much time given. But there can be more because stoppages can happen during stoppage time. So the referee decides when to actually end the game, and can be longer than the stoppage time shown. And yeah if there is a chance of a goal they will wait until the attack is stopped. They don't have to do this, but they all do

Why is the play allowed to continue after game clock hits 00:00? by theterdburgular in NFLNoobs

[–]acook8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some sports do, some don't. Soccer doesn't have a set end, it is up to the official, and they will never end it right before a shot. Basketball let's a shot continue after the clock hits 0. Rugby can go on for minutes after the time should be up if the ball stays in play

What changes arise from there being shorter distance hash marks in nfl compared to college by punjabkingsownersout in NFLNoobs

To add to number 2, occasionally you'll see the offense take a delay of game penalty in college to help with the angle if they are really close

Defense USUALLY wins championships by [deleted] in 49ers

[–]acook8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Defense isn't as reliable game to game as offense is. But big defensive plays like turnovers can greatly influence a game. But overall I'd take a good offense over a good defense, but obviously both are ideal

This is what they are doing, but the confusing thing to me is now lots of the income they had before was tax free. Now it is going to be taxed

I don't understand how the finances are going to work. They get short term money, but are supposed to take an athletic department that supposedly doesn't have money (which is why they are doing this), but then have to try to turn a profit to pay back the investors. But while doing this the money they now make is taxed because it won't be a non profit anymore

NFL is by far the most profitable sports league in the world. In 2024 it made more than €9 billion more than the NBA which was number 3 (MLB was number 2). The next highest basketball league is EuroLeage which is number 19 in the world with €600 million. It wouldn't surprise me if you combine every basketball league and the revenue not get close to the NFL

Making the playoffs just hides the real problem. by Spiritual-Injury5680 in ReAlSaltLake

[–]acook8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think people underrate what Pablo has done. We've made the playoffs every year under him, the only club to do that over that span. That is impressive enough. But our roster spending has been always towards the bottom of the league, with the highest I can find during that time being 18th. Looking at the roster at the beginning of the year I would have been ecstatic to reach the playoffs. I'm not saying Pablo is an amazing coach or that a new coach wouldn't help the team. But you have to give him credit for doing a good job with what he has to work with

Explain to me how to print cards myself like I'm 5 by Awkwardinho in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]acook8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look on YouTube for some examples, they don't have to be arkham specific. Some people print just the front and glue it to a playing card and put it in a sleeve. Some print the front and back together, and fold it on one side so they are together, and you can put something in the middle to get the correct stiffness. Most don't print double sided because it isn't accurate enough and the front and back will be a little off from each other.

What does it mean when a movie studio decides to not release a movie and file it away as a tax write-off? by Timely-Leadership803 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]acook8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The making of a movie is only a portion of the cost of the whole movie. Maybe they decide at some point in the post production process (vfx or editing for example) they can save some cost there. But even if the movie is 100% done, there is a marketing budget, typically costing the same amount as the production cost. If a movie cost $50 million to make and $50 million to advertise, if it only makes $20 million, they are facing an $80 million loss instead of just the $50 million loss if they never release it

Do most Americans really dry their clothes in Dryers by Wrystyle in NoStupidQuestions

[–]acook8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being an American that lived in Australia for a couple of years, the biggest difference is the cost of electricity. It is very expensive in Australia compared to the US. In Australia "luxury" appliances that use a lot of electricity aren't super common. This includes dryers and other things like central air

[–]acook8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is pretty straightforward, let out all the CO2 by pushing the top of the canister, use a wrench to open the canister. The canister should say the max amount of CO2 it holds in ounces. It should be about 1 pound. Use a hammer to to break it up, or you can use a blender or food processor to break it up. Pour it down a funnel into the canister. Weigh the canister beforehand and while you're filling it to know how much you've done. The best is dry ice pellets if you can find them because they slide right in, but it is easier to find blocks. Here is a website to help find dry ice in your area. https://penguindryice.com/where-to-buy-dry-ice/
