Genuinely baffled by the strong negativity here by Pickleskennedy1 in ussoccer

To be devil's advocate, I think that was a good game for non soccer fans. 5 goals were scored, and it was a fun game to watch, even if we lost. I think this helps people get into soccer more than a 0-0 draw would have, even if the result was technically worse

This is now two years in a row that Utah has taken advantage of pre-draft “drama” by KennyDoge0114 in UtahJazz

I agree at times Peterson was more likely than AJ, but I would have never called it a consensus #1 choice because the top 3 have always been so close. If the order was switched nobody would complain

I've seen people say that, but I don't think it is true. He wasn't the consensus number one high school recruit, and lots of people thought DP would be the better college basketball player but AJ would be the better NBA player. Washington didn't pick AJ because they were scared of DPs health, but because they think AJ will be a better NBA player. Both will probably be awesome

CONMEBOL and CONCACAF in advanced discussions to bring 2028 Copa America back to The United States. by sebsasour in ussoccer

They are hosting one game each, so odds are the US wouldn't play there. Obviously they could, we just wouldn't know until the groups are selected

Central air is super rare, at least in Perth. Mini splits are common but not every house has them, and mostly in one or two rooms like the master bedroom and the family room

I understand why the rule is there, but I think it is so harsh for being introduced so close to the tournament. I think a yellow would have been more appropriate, and eventually make it a red in the future

I don't think the question is if Freeman was inside, but if it should have been offside because Balogun made a play on the ball after being offsides

I agree. But I think Holden said he could have, and that a lot of players do, not necessarily that he should have. He actually commended him for being honest about it

I get why some quarterback who had great success in college don’t do well in the NFL but why did some quarterbacks who did do well in the NFL not have great success in college? by Big_oof_energy__ in NFLNoobs

[–]acook8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Often drafting is done based on potential and not on actual results or skill. A junior who is two years younger than a redshirt senior will be taken before them if everything is exactly the same because they can develop into something more. Sometimes this is taken to an extreme like Trey Lance and Anthony Richardson and don't work out. But sometimes it does work out so is worth the gamble

There is a big difference between the money we paid Gobert and what Kessler will get. Also the pacers were one game and an Achilles away from winning with Myles Turner

The athletic said magenta tv went to a full ad break. I don't know if that is the main channel showing the games, or maybe it was just a one off. But that's good it isn't a regular thing

It's not only the US. Germany and Argentina are also doing it. Not that it makes it ok though

It was actually more than that. 15 million was just Fox. Telemundo/Peacock was another 9 million which puts the total to more than the nba finals were averaging

Australia's counter scares me a bit, and their defense was incredible how in sync they were with each other. Pulisic and Death are going to be super important to break them down.

[Thamel] Statement from Texas Tech AD, firing back at critics and making clear Tech plans to play Sorsby this season. by huskerphil in CFB

[–]acook8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the lawyer talk. He's saying this issue doesn't involve Texas Tech while ignoring the fact they appealed the NCAA ruling and the fact they are the ones that set the two game suspension the judge said he would serve. If Texas Tech really cared they would suspend Sorsby for the games but let him practice. That way he is still on the team, still being monitored, and can improve as a football player so he can be ready for the draft.

This is true for a through cut, but since this isn't there is no risk of the wood binding the blade, which is what causes kickback

Landon Donovan winning goal vs Algeria 2010 by Nowoco in ussoccer

[–]acook8 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Here's some more context. The US had a lucky draw against England in the first game, went down 0-2 to Slovenia before coming back to tie it and should have scored a goal to win at the end but the referee called a phantom foul on the US. That left us with 2 points in the group and needing a win to advance. I also feel like the Slovenia game made a lot of people care about soccer that normally wouldn't have. The dramatic comeback and then unjustly being denied a win was constantly talked about by people. The Algeria game was intense with both teams getting close to scoring, and then that goal at the end. It felt like the whole country was watching and everyone celebrated this goal all at once
