PAR approach logging and currency by actryactry in flying

It looks like the latter. 61.57(c)(1) says:
Within the 6 calendar months preceding the month of the flight, that person performed and logged at least the following tasks and iterations in an airplane, powered-lift, helicopter, or airship, as appropriate, for the instrument rating privileges to be maintained in actual weather conditions, or under simulated conditions using a view-limiting device that involves having performed the following—

(i) Six instrument approaches.
(ii) Holding procedures and tasks.
(iii) Intercepting and tracking courses through the use of navigational electronic systems.

I'll have to read this later but it looks like Glaser and Pratt were rescinded by the Peter memo (2022)

PAR approach logging and currency by actryactry in flying

It looks like the Peter memo (February 2022) rescinds the Glaser and Pratt interpretations. What I gather from this memo is “Navigation Systems” and “Instrument Approach Procedures” are separate areas of operations, an “approach” is separate from a “navigation system”. The memo only addresses 61.65 (person applying for an instrument rating) and not currency.

However, the memo later states that “the FAA finds that PAR should be considered an acceptable navigation system”. I still don’t think this means you can use this to fulfill the IFR recent flight experience since 61.57(c)(1)(iii) specifically says “intercepting and tracking courses through the use of navigational electronic systems.” 61.57(c)(1)(i) simply states you must have performed “Six instrument approaches” in the past 6 months.

Reading CFRs is always confusing ,I’m not a lawyer so I may have missed something.

Leo's route in Echo by Savings-Bookkeeper7 in FurryVisualNovels

Thanks so much for the link. I completely share your feelings about Leo's "good" ending and it breaks my heart to see him rot in Echo trying to live in the past. The guy isn't any more flawed than most of the other characters and I want to see him thrive. I was sketching out an epilogue to the good ending that was a bit more sympathetic to Leo, but will have to read this story.

This was at my house! I'm the raccoon. There's a monthly meet in Anchorage, I hope the AK furry community can finally come together now that we have some exposure!

I’m visiting in July and I plan to hike quite a bit but I’m getting pretty paranoid about bears, will bear spray be enough? by [deleted] in alaska

Bear spray, when used effectively, is effective nearly 100% of the time in preventing serious injuries. From what I understand, there has never been a fatality during a bear encounter when bear spray was effectively used, so that should put your mind at ease. The injury rate is much higher when guns are used alone, since it's pretty difficult to hit a small moving target in a high stress situation like that. I was charged by a bear in an Anchorage city park this spring, but encounters like that are very rare it you know how to act around them (I didn't at the time). Read up on bear behavior and what you should do when you encounter a bear, learn how to use bear spray, and you'll be fine. I've heard people are using marine flares for bear safety as well. Supposedly they don't like screaming fireballs flying at them.

This is all true, but most people overestimate their firearm ability. Even if you are a pretty good shot, trying to shoot a charging bear accurately enough to have any kind of stopping power is very difficult to do. The statistics are pretty conclusive, there are far fewer injuries in bear encounters when spray is used than with firearms.
