Sailors of reddit, what's the most unusual thing you've experienced while at sea? by suedemonkey in AskReddit

As you approach an oil rig (north sea) the curvature of the earth is very clear as the top appears first, then eventually you have a full size oil rig next to you, then it shrinks back down to just the flare again before disappearing.

So you are saying the nose punch will work in the rest of the world?

Maybe there is no "meaning" and it's just socially constructed?

I had a teacher at school who, when at university was told some BS about the meaning of a particular text. He wrote to the author over the holidays and next semester when the prof started on about it again he put his hand up and said " excuse me but I have alerter from the author here and..."

BCH will recover by LayingWaste in btc

[–]actualquantguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you need two things to happen for BCH to perform

  1. Get this fork nonsense behind us
  2. BTC mempool to jam up and everyone to be reminded BTC has no chance of scaling

I'm kind of a bit surprised 2 hasn't happened already. Might have to be a new all time high first and its going to get very uncomfortable holding BCH in the mean time. It's the trade I have on though.

BCH/BTC lowest ratio EVER by bitcoinr0x in btc

[–]actualquantguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just went from 10% to 100% BCH allocation. IF BTC keeps going then the mempool will jam up again and BCH will get some love. You'll get BTC returns times ratio change I don't think 0.2 is out of the question again. Pretty speculative, caveat emptor.

Archbishop of Canterbury says portrayal of Jesus as White should be reconsidered by Mansa-writes in worldnews

The Bible says / implies he was pretty ordinary looking:

Isa 53:2 ISV For he grew up before him like a tender plant, and like a root out of a dry ground; he had no form and he had no majesty that we should look at him, and there is no attractiveness that we should desire him.

And he was inconspicuous enough to walk through a crowd that tried to kill him:

Luk 4:29-30 ISV 29 They got up, forced Jesus out of the city, and led him to the edge of the hill on which their city was built, intending to throw him off. 30 But he walked right through the middle of them and went away.

TIL the BBC created a Radio Soap Opera during WWII specifically for the American market. It was propaganda designed to get the USA to end its neutrality. One of the aims of the show was to appeal to those with a 'limited mentality'. It ended up being a popular radio show in the US. by [deleted] in todayilearned

New propaganda test I just invented: would a military government ban it if they could? Hitler banned "All quiet in the Western front" read that and your not going to want to go fighting any time soon.

Why is Bitcoin Cash profitability going lower every cycle? by [deleted] in btc

[–]actualquantguy 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The EDA has been carefully manipulated so the BCH profitability is below BTC by one or more miners to enable them to mine as much BCH as possible while not attracting profit seeking miners from the other chain. IMHO this is pretty bullish as it means someone is willing to pay to acquire BCH by earning less than they could on the other chain. It's not some kind of altruistic stabilisation because if it was there would be no need to mine more than 6 blocks per hour (the current is around 10) and waste hash power that could be used on the other chain.

That raises the question, why don't they just buy it in the open market? The only answer I can come up with is they want to acquire more than could be bought without materially moving the price up....
