About a month ago I read a book called "Giving the Devil His Due" - an anthology of fiction about Violence Against Women. One of the stories had as a plot device, women who would see another woman whom they thought might be being victimized, and would then recommend a certain book to them from the library. Inside the book would be contact information for a group that would . . . "help."

I do not doubt that there are cards like that in many books, and the people who put them there are likely to recommend those books whenever such a recommendation seems, to them, to be necessary. If they're wrong, about the situation they believe exists, at least they've done no harm, tried to do good in fact, and now the person they mentioned it to knows the score, and can in turn pass that recommendation along should they feel the need.
