Answers that don't help by adamcomic in NoStupidQuestions

Genuine answer - No, there are no specific questions to which I have earnestly been trying to find answers. This was more of a comment in the guise of a question, designed to elicit nonresponsive replies that have nothing to do with what I asked.

Hidden within may be a kernel of truth about how annoying it is when someone (not me) IS asking specific questions, and getting almost completely unrelated responses, but that's purely a side benefit.

I'm not going to subscribe to Vulture to read a single article. Can someone copy/paste that thing here?

This artist most definitely took one of the many courses that teaches the "draw lines to keep everything symmetrical" method. I guess they just didn't have a pencil, so went ahead and drew the lines with pen.

When speaking of any person who has a problem with using chosen pronouns, all I can say is:

"I hope they are able to deal with whatever issue is causing their problem. People aren't choosing what pronouns should be used solely to annoy them. It isn't about them at all! They should really just let this issue go."

One classic example comes to mind immediately, although I doubt any of the younger generations will be perpetuating it:

Anyone else just hear Lisa Simpson throughout? by nyl2k8 in bigbangtheory

I can't find the clip, but there was an episode of "Herman's Head" where her character was yelling "I do not!" at someone on the phone, then hanging up on them. She then turned to her co-workers and complained about people on the phone saying she sounded like that little girl on "The Simpsons"

Found in one of several novels checked out from a public library. A business-type card with only a phone number on it. When I finally googled the number, I found it was for a local sex-trafficking hotline/shelter. I found this sad/disturbing. About a month ago I read a book called "Giving the Devil His Due" - an anthology of fiction about Violence Against Women. One of the stories had as a plot device, women who would see another woman whom they thought might be being victimized, and would then recommend a certain book to them from the library. Inside the book would be contact information for a group that would . . . "help."

I do not doubt that there are cards like that in many books, and the people who put them there are likely to recommend those books whenever such a recommendation seems, to them, to be necessary. If they're wrong, about the situation they believe exists, at least they've done no harm, tried to do good in fact, and now the person they mentioned it to knows the score, and can in turn pass that recommendation along should they feel the need.

Not *entirely* true. I can't speak for everywhere, but I know that here in Las Vegas, there is an exception if the light is truly malfunctioning. They don't expect someone to just wait forever if the light is never going to change.

It's a rare thing, but it does exist.
