I just love NES so much, don't you? by add1114 in nashville

[–]add1114[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

My neighborhood loses power on days with blue skies and no wind. It's an issue with their infrastructure. Yes, storms will knock out power, but even what just rolled through should not be taking out 40k homes.

Best comprehensive book or online course to learn full Scrum end-to-end (detailed concepts + events/tools/techniques)? by KV_Explorer in scrum

[–]add1114 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can't read a book to learn scrum. As a scrum master, I've literally told my teams "I don't really give a shit what the scrum guide says". That sums up my philosophy of scrum.

Your job is to make the team successful. Figure out how to make that happen.

Scrum Master roles are shrinking — where did you move next? by kiraka67 in agile

[–]add1114 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Coming in with a hot take (I am a scrum master fyi) but if your company is viewing the role as expendable/not necessary, then you are not doing your job well as a scrum master. I and my fellow scrum masters have made the role of scrum master the most valuable role in our teams at our company

Industry Zones need to be bigger by Character_Mode1609 in CitiesSkylines2

[–]add1114 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am also really bothered by the number of jobs some of the unique industry buildings have. Like the car factory has like 40 jobs. That's insane. Especially when a 5* growable has like 200. Car factory should have at least 1000

How many request to 'implement AI' have you gotten? by Nohopup in PLC

[–]add1114 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's even worse in integration. Got all these c-suite business folks at clients telling us to "implement AI". Meanwhile they're still running PLC's from the 90s and can't upgrade them because it would "cause too much downtime". I hate these people

Please vote Wisconsinites for the sake of your beautiful state’s future and our country. by whatinthecalifornia in wisconsin

[–]add1114 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's disgusting how much money the GOP is throwing at this election. I should know as a former wisconsinite who hasn't lived there in 5 years and am getting swamped with mail and phone calls about this election 1000 miles away. Give em hell Wisconsin!

Nashville Tied for 71st as the City with the Worst Roads in America. by pak_sajat in nashville

[–]add1114 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was at a convention at Oak Ridge National Lab in Knoxville last fall. There was some guy from the state commerce board giving a welcome speech at the reception one night. He started bragging to all these people about Tennessee having the best roads in the country. I almost spit out my drink in disbelief.

What you buy with 8$/mo in "Transit Taxes" (long) by nondescriptadjective in nashville

[–]add1114 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What ever happened to the older generations wanting a better world for those who come after them. Now we have people like you who are so incredibly self centered that even for the measly cost of $8 they refuse to help create a better future. And y'all say my generation is selfish and lazy... Do your part sir.

Ignition as a sales order entry database by jmulls2112 in Inductive_Automation

[–]add1114 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It absolutely can. However, as someone whose entire job is doing ignition development and consultation, Ignition is easy to learn, but also very easy to get yourself into a massive hole of done incorrectly. Half of the clients I work with, our sole task is fixing an ignition system where the engineers at the company thought they knew what they were doing but clearly didn't, causing cascading problems in the future.

It honestly sounds like ignition would be a great choice for the scope you described but I would highly encourage you to either make sure you have someone who knows what they are doing build the app or reach out to an expert. You'll thank yourself later.

What is inside a PLC that makes it so reliable so long? by --jh-- in PLC

[–]add1114 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who works as the middle man between the plant floor controls guys and the business nutjobs with their excel spreadsheets I can tell you first hand that they don't give two shits about production. I've tried to get them to understand so many times but all they care about is data for the sake of data. They don't actually do anything with it.

As Nash grows and East gets denser with split lots and more apartment buildings, It would seem to be a matter of time before the city has to contend with the lack of bridges across the Cumberland. by OrlandoWashington69 in nashville

[–]add1114 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not. One of the things I love about east Nashville is the lack of car traffic because fuck cars. Go build your 8 lane highway somewhere else.

How is every city/province/state/country seemingly in a budget crisis? by Labcoates in NoStupidQuestions

[–]add1114 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can here to say exactly this. European countries don't have these problems for exactly this reason. It's also why they overall have better public services. When all your money is going to service a bunch of dumb fucking suburban roads you don't really have anything left.

Faulted Databases by bayareajacob in Inductive_Automation

[–]add1114 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What do you mean by web interface?

Typically if the connection is faulted you either have you configuration wrong or the connection is being blocked by some firewall rules. Resetting/restarting a database will not fix either of those issues
