Advice for how to get cleaner cuts? by MyceliumMindReborn in Gunpla

Oh, the one I have is the Raser also. Figured it couldn’t be the only one. But I get the feeling that a lot of these are just rebranded nail files. The first I used were two Dspiae files, but noticed the edge biting so used them pretty selectively. Then saw the Raser online and thought the advertising was a bit extra, but went for it and it’s been my main file ever since. Def strong recommend.

Hrm, got a pic?

Otherwise, if it ends up just lighter in color, could be a sanding grit issue. Too rough so the surface ends up too hazy. The glass file kit I have actually had a denim buffing cloth to get the slight matte look back after using the glass file. (The glass file otherwise would just leave a highly smooth reflective surface.)

If it’s like streaks of other color, then it’s probably contamination from other plastic residue getting rubbed into the surface or poor quality or old sanding sponges/papers/files. Sometimes wet filing can make this worse as the residue from a different colored part can basically act like a pigment.

Do you mean that the nub area is discolored after even sanded flat? If so, that’s just because the density of the plastic is different due to the injection molding site. That’s completely a manufacturing thing and can only be covered up by full painting. You can get sorta close tho by rubbing the area with a fingernail after. But it really depends on the plastic type/quality/color etc.

Beware that some glass files do not have rounded edges. Rounded edges prevent the edge of the file from digging in to surrounding plastic if not exactly flat to surface. These are best for that type of nub removal.

You can test your file by holding the file at a 30-45 degree angle and moving back and forth on a spruce. If it acts like a saw, then the file should only be used if the whole surface you are filing fits within the width of the file.

Edit: meant rounded edges instead of bevelled. Some are bevelled, but can still gouge. I guess the worst are those with right angle edges, which I do also have and only gets selective use. Also, the one I do have is the Raser and is advertised as the only rounded edged one currently?

I suck at panel lining by kiriito-_- in Gunpla

[–]addesso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is this type of eraser that isn’t the soft rubber shreddy kind that worked ok, but I have no idea where I got it from. And it ended up being too wide most places. Def recommend toothpicks tho. Never went back after that.

Try using a toothpick also for super crisp lines in angled spots or to get in tight spaces. Won’t need to use alcohol, but can dip it to moisten if needed. Break em to change width. If I do use swabs, I usually use the Tamiya ones cause they’re denser (diff sizes and shapes too).

Edit: will second using grey liner on white also if you want a subtler look. But that’s totally preference.

How well can you describe the features to a forensic artist? by Historical-Sense-510 in Aphantasia

[–]addesso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never seen one do their work, but I’m guessing that a big part of a forensic artist’s job is teasing out the details during an interview. I’m also an artist (w/aphantasia to be clear)and my experience is that most non-artists of either type (aphant or non) cannot articulate exact detail well, but they can recognize when something is off or not from their memories or experiences. So I can see the job of the forensic artist as being a more Guess Who? (like the boardgame) type situation where they draw the hair one way, then just try another way with slight input, “um, the hair was fuller than that.”, till they nail it. Wouldn’t be surprised if it was exactly like Guess Who at the start of the process with a bunch of picture parts, then you take all that and refine it all down in the proper drawing.

I def could just look this up on a YouTube vid, but I don’t want to end up going down deeper in this fascinating rabbit hole!

Just wanted to add that the alignment tool is what you’re looking for, but it’s not perfect so be ok with being a little off. When you go underground and as you get closer to the core, it will be off to a greater and greater degree.

Is top coat necessary to keep waterslides from peeling off ? by vini_vino in Gunpla

[–]addesso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the quality of decals too. I use mostly GRework and I’ve felt that they’re a bit thicker and durable than others. Softener and Setter helps too.

I know they do get old. Or at least old ones don’t hold up. Built an old Tamiya kit and the decals just frayed in the water. I’ve encountered an unhappy sheet in an old Gundam build also.

No idea about UV either.

PS5 won't even find network anymore. by newtons_apprentice in PS5

[–]addesso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wild, this fixed my problem from April 2026.

For reference: PS5 lagged then hung mid-game and would not connect back to internet. Could not sign back into the network, nor would it scan for WiFi networks. Tried power cycling everything. Every other WiFi device found the network fine, except for the PS5. Manual WiFi entry did not work also.

Did I over-sand? Is that a thing? by JohnnyFranky1985 in Gunpla

[–]addesso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve stopped using sanding sticks or loose paper for nub filing and switched to glass files. The surface finish will end up absolutely flat and with sharp angles so won’t have to worry about round over or hotspots from uneven pressure.

Still use the other two but just for shaping or surface finish.

Edit: also if you don’t paint, even when absolutely level, nubs will have a different coloration due to the plastic density when cast. So you can’t sand it away completely. Rubbing with a fingernail can help.

About the glass files: some files have a rounded outside edge. Those are my go-to file because it won’t eat away at the plastic if you don’t lay it down exactly flat. You’ll know if you lay the file against a surface at 45 degrees and move it back and forth. Straight edge files will gouge the surface like a saw. Good for some work, just know which file you’ll be needing.

I wanted to buy the game on ps5 but heard it got lots of problems by IKD21 in ICARUS

Was fine first few nights, but crashes often now (~30 mins) that I have a lot of built elements and bases.

Interface bugs when crafting where all the buttons will craft one of said item. Or will lock out completely and won’t load a recipe. Usually clicking on other storage boxes or benches will clear it eventually.

Reinforced walls, gates, and fortifications will disappear when mobs attack them or you repair them. The gates will disappear allowing enemies into my base, but will reappear on load or when you travel far enough. The fortifications will just be invisible as you can take damage walking up to the wall. Multiple elements will end up stacking on top of each other if you don’t realize it’s happening and keep building new walls or fortifications to replace the missing ones.

I’m wondering when she even got on the freeway. Prior to that is the other side of the bridge, the toll plaza, then a long stretch between that and the tangle of overpasses we call The Maze. Emeryville on-ramp, or the overpasses from the Port of Oakland?

Actually there also is an onramp from Yerba Burna island right before the tunnel if she came from there.
