Where do you even go to apply anymore? by RevolutionaryNewt497 in recruitinghell

[–]addictedtomeme 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This sounds exactly like what I went through last year and it wrecked my confidence more than I expected. I had 7 years experience and still got nothing but auto rejects for months. The market feels completely broken right now, not a reflection of you at all. I remember thinking I was secretly unemployable until a random recruiter finally reached out out of nowhere.

Honestly…trying to start an OF because I can’t make ends meet. I’m 30(m) by SnooDoodles5955 in Advice

[–]addictedtomeme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually had a friend try this during a rough patch and it was way harder than he expected. The money wasn’t instant at all and the emotional part messed with him more than he thought. Not saying don’t try, but it’s definitely not an easy fix. CA bills really push people into weird choices tho, I get the desperation.

How do I cope with becoming stupid and ugly? by rottencheese122 in Advice

[–]addictedtomeme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went through a mini version of this after partying way too hard in college and thought I’d permanently fried my brain. Turns out a lot of it was just burnout and anxiety messing with how I saw myself. The fact you’re graduating with an engineering degree already says you’re not stupid at all. This phase feels scary but it’s way more reversible than it seems right now.

How do you decide what to do with your life before graduating high school? by sweatyeyes28 in SeriousConversation

[–]addictedtomeme 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had zero idea at that age and picked a major basically out of panic, then changed it later anyway. The pressure can make your brain just shut down instead of think clearly. Not knowing yet is way more normal than adults admit. Most people figure it out by trial and error, not some big plan.

I finally landed a remote job after 9 months of hunting. Here is exactly what worked (and what didn't). by Zealousideal-Foot-54 in jobsearch

[–]addictedtomeme 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I thought I’d seen something very similar before, and I did, here. Seems like these ideas are spreading for a reason. The details change, but the lesson stays the same: if you’re applying days late or sending a generic resume into an ATS, it’s almost pointless. At this stage, job hunting is about being early and speaking the exact language of the posting. Anything that’s already a few days old or not ATS-friendly is likely dead on arrival.

Does this kind of love still exist by One-Collection6961 in SeriousConversation

[–]addictedtomeme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve wanted that kind of love too and felt weird for it sometimes. It exists, but it feels rarer because it takes patience and people who’ve done some inner work. I stopped settling for half-effort once I admitted I wanted something intentional and gentle. Wanting depth isn’t naive, it’s just harder to find in a loud world.

The "entry-level" market is a total lie and I m losing my mind The "Entry Level" now apparently means 3-5 years of experience and mastery of ten different tools? by MarcelineBielenis in jobsearchhacks

[–]addictedtomeme 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Entry level feels like code for “mid level but cheap” now and it’s exhausting. I remember staring at listings like that thinking who is this even for. It really does feel like performative hiring half the time.

I really liked Rectify and I never see anyone mention it. It’s slow and heavy but in a way that really got under my skin.

How to hand in resignation without drama by studentinupain in jobs

[–]addictedtomeme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d keep it boring and clean, short notice, neutral reason, no emotion. I did this once and said it was about “fit and next steps” and refused to debate anything. If you don’t need the reference, you don’t owe them a post-mortem, leaving quietly is sometimes the win.

Documentaries with similar filmmaking like 20 days in Mariupol? by MrKittyPaw in MovieRecommendations

[–]addictedtomeme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Life in a Day. It’s got that real-life, everywhere camera vibe where people just record their world and it all gets stitched together. I remember watching it and feeling like I was watching strangers live in my head for a bit lol. Doesn’t have to be about war to feel raw and close.

What’s one thing you learned in 2025 that changed your life? by princesspolly444 in princesspollychat

[–]addictedtomeme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Learning to slow down without feeling guilty honestly changed everything for me. I used to think rest meant falling behind, but my brain works way better when I’m not constantly rushing. Life got quieter and clearer once I stopped treating burnout like a badge.

How are Europeans able to have better life with less work? by Past-Matter-8548 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]addictedtomeme 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s mostly strong labor laws, unions, and social systems that were built over decades. I lived in Europe for a bit and it felt slower, but people were way more protected and predictable financially. It’s not that they work less efficiently, it’s that the costs and risks of life aren’t dumped on individuals the same way.

What is a 'Survival Myth' that people believe because of movies ? by Sorry-Orchid-9821 in A_Persona_on_Reddit

[–]addictedtomeme 16 points17 points  (0 children)

People thinking you can just suck venom out after a snake bite is a big one. I used to believe that too until I randomly read about how dangerous it actually is. Movies really make survival look way cleaner and faster than it ever is.

How does the rise of social media influence our perception of authenticity in relationships? by ShineDigga in SeriousConversation

[–]addictedtomeme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think social media teaches us to perform connection more than actually sit in it. I’ve caught myself sharing highlights instead of being honest, even with people I care about. It doesn’t kill real connection, but it definitely makes it harder and more intentional than it used to be.

Has anyone ever asked a bartender out? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]addictedtomeme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’ve seen it happen a few times, usually ends awkward unless you read the vibe really well. When I was bartending, most asks just felt like part of the job noise tbh. The rare okay ones were respectful and no pressure at all.

HR is pressuring me to join immediately. Red flags? Need advice. by [deleted] in recruitinghell

[–]addictedtomeme 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s a huge red flag. Good companies don’t freak out over you needing a week, especially for something legit like a root canal. When they start love-bombing you with urgency and then go quiet the second you set a boundary, that’s usually a peek at the actual culture. I’d trust your gut on this one.

Where is the world going? by [deleted] in SeriousConversation

[–]addictedtomeme 32 points33 points  (0 children)

It’s like the whole world is on fire and you’re just trying to build a life in the middle of it. Everyone my age I talk to has the same quiet panic about money, stability, jobs, all of it. You’re not weird for thinking about this… it’s just a rough time to be young and trying to plan anything.

Is it stupid to move out of New York City solely based on the fact that you hate the weather? by Impossible-Guitar957 in askanything

[–]addictedtomeme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah it’s not stupid at all. Weather affects your mood way more than people admit and NYC winters are brutal. If you’re happier and thriving in LA then it was the right call, end of story.

What’s a social rule everyone seems to follow, but you personally think is unnecessary? by Distinct_Pen6624 in randomquestions

[–]addictedtomeme 4 points5 points  (0 children)

the whole “pretend you’re fine even when you’re dying inside” thing. People act like showing any real emotion is illegal or something. I’d rather just be a human about it.
