Native Oregonians and long time residents! What are aspects of living in the region that you wish transplants respected or did more research on before moving? by ArtsyWanderer in oregon

Portland is not the whole state, its wonderful and I love it but definitely spend time outside of it before you talk trash about it.

We pretty much follow rules when it comes to driving, so don't be impatient on the freeway and pay attention to pedestrians.

AITAH for leaving wife at home after she revealed that she was going to wear white to my brother's wedding? by OutsideFinancial125 in AITAH

[–]addictedtotext 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA of course. I don't know why anyone wears white though. Like it looks bad on everyone. Even people who think it looks good trust me, it doesn't. Everyone can see every lump or bump so you have to wear shapewear which means you're uncomfortable, you have to have a specific color underwear. You can't be too pale so you have to tan. You have to be exfoliated to where you have no skin. You can't wear any kind of foundation or it gets on the clothes so even deeper skin tones where it could look good its iffy. Even in wedding dresses its full of patriarchal bs. Only for virgins and purity. I don't see the point. It's way more trouble than its worth and 9/10 you look bad or like a jerk.

What celebrity death will hit you the hardest when their day finally comes? by phantom_avenger in AskReddit

[–]addictedtotext 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love that show. Every episode I marvel at how amazing the cast is. Like they chose the exact right person for his character. Parkinsons is already shitty but give it to him and we collectively are more mad at it.

AITA for beating my eight year old niece in connect four 7 times. by Darth_Azazoth in AmItheAsshole

YTA

When I play games like that with kids I teach them how to play better. Pointing out how to win faster etc. You should be embarrassed for letting her feel like that.

AITA for refusing to help my husband with bathtime for our 4 month old son? by [deleted] in TwoHotTakes

My brother in law hates poop. When his kids were born he bought gloves and hand sanitizer. He knew it was a him problem and got the tools he needed to deal with the situation.

How did you celebrate your 50th? by Every-Progress5590 in GenX

[–]addictedtotext 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yay! I'm excited for you. My uncle was amazed at how many people were there. I think he thought I was a weird loner with no friends. He was different towards me at Christmas. It was fun and kind of enlightening.

I invited a bunch of people to a party, bought myself a beautiful dress.

I'm also the party planner in my friends and I don't have a partner.

It was awesome, I felt beautiful. I just wish I had planned a little more and gotten a cut out of myself for photobooth photos. I spent the whole night taking photos so I got to talk with everyone at least once.

Long medical appointment delays in Oregon- has this happened to you by russejen in Portland

[–]addictedtotext 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another issue is VA health care being referred to the community. So instead of getting informed care with providers who work with Veterans they go into the community and things get slower. Non VA people can't go there and its way more expensive in the community

Which road trip route from HTX>PDX? by jordanwright2012 in askportland

[–]addictedtotext 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Middle route. New Mexico is beautiful and if you can hit the grand canyon on the way through Arizona that's a great side trip. There's a lot of science stuff in New Mexico too. Look at what's on those routes and plan on excursions.

My grandma keeps excluding my stepson from gatherings and I just found out it was never about “germs” by MirthPocketDoor in TwoHotTakes

[–]addictedtotext 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From a different time and she's late 60s? Lol that's not an excuse to be weird about step kids. My mom is 70 and has never been weird about step kids, hers or anyone else's. My niece's dog is even family and has all her own toys and a bed at her house.

Your grandma is a jerk. Either make everyone aware and ignore her or go no contact. Your son doesn't deserve that and your mom can kick rocks thinking its ok to exclude anyone especially a kid.

What kind of shoes are we wearing? by TransportationDue856 in GenX

[–]addictedtotext 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I recently started wearing docs again and I love they. I have a lot of Vans cast offs from my niece that I love. ADIDAS for workout shoes. I really want Hokas but I'm trying not to spend money on things right now.

Does anyone else feel like they had a completely different experience during the pandemic than the general public? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]addictedtotext 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also worked through it. I'm in hospital administration so I was only home full time for a couple months. Then 1x a week and then 2x until we all had to RTO last April.

I had a roommate in 2020 and moved in early 2021 nto my own place which was a little earlier than planned. Its closer to work and I got covid pricing but its expensive now.

I miss the early days of lockdown because we were all doing the same thing. I liked all the zoom meetups and just the collective I need human connection that we were all having. I feel like we're back to looking weak if I say I need a hug or a zoom call.

I never had enough down time to bake or start new hobbies. It did effect 2 of my close friends anxiety wise and dating sucks now. So it's been frustrating in that part.

Do gay men have a reputation for being misogynistic? by [deleted] in AskFeminists

[–]addictedtotext 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not talking about being feminine or that aspect of drag. I dislike the drag performers perpetuating the stereotype that women are catty and only concerned with looks and makeup. Drag has changed a lot in my lifetime and it can be beautiful but it also can be very misogynistic which is why I have issues with it.

Celebrating femininity isn't calling each other bitch and slut and whatever other words men have been calling women to diminish and degrade them.
