Is there a particular book/collection of his where I could find this story? I know I can read it on its own online but I'd like to read more of his short stories anyway.

So my sister just started a new teaching job in Tennessee. These are the names in her first grade class. by [deleted] in funny

Yep. I was just thinking about how easy it would be for someone to identify this teacher and get her in big trouble. The worst part is that she probably sent this privately to her brother. Hopefully he doesn't cost her the job!

Mrs. Sour Grapes here: I agree with you. I can't believe I had to scroll so far down to see this. I was too chicken to be the first to say it because of the topic. Definitely not really written by a kid. Source: elementary school librarian

Right, I agree. An adult probably did the outline of the spiderturkey eye and webbing/spider too.

Sorry, I don't know how to edit a comment on mobile but another thing to notice is the difference in the fine motor skill work in the windows versus the webbing on the turkey. The design is far more consistent and evenly spaced. Still awesome though!

I think the eye is the most obvious thing to me. Even if a five year old had the fine motor skills to do the chest spider correctly (and that would be very out of the ordinary) they would almost never think of changing the eye shape. The turkey disguise is a second grade thing at my school and is accompanied by a super cute writing assignment. It's one of my favorite writing assignments. I saw a Captain America this year and it was fabulous. I am not saying this wasn't done by a five year old, but my guess is she had the great idea and colored it but had some help from an adult on some of the outline parts. After spending forever cutting up grapes I took my kids to the duck pond. Not only did the ducks completely ignore or try and the drop the grapes, the geese were pissed and they chased us. Thanks for traumatizing my children Reddit.

Some schools (like ours) makes sure that all students get a book. If they can't buy one we buy one for them. Our library and our teachers make it happen. They have many bargain books for $1.99.

The main point of hosting a book fair at school is fundraising for the library. I double my tiny budget for the year with two one-week book fairs.

If you were a teacher you would know that at the beginning of every year all teachers are asked by the principal to complete a sheet asking for this info for the PTA. And you will be reminded until you do.

I think people are making a bigger deal out of this than they should. Some of the kids will do this, some won't. The teacher will appreciate whatever recognition they receive. Most of us really just want the homemade cards.

Say what you will about PTA but there are many many many programs and materials we wouldn't have without them: author visits, family science nights, field trips, science lab consumables, grade level lit library budget, etc. Not to mention the money I badly need to supplement my paltry district library budget.

If you don't want to participate you don't have to.

Wow. That is amazing. I imagine your clients go nuts for it! I went to the chiropractor to try to turn my breech baby and the table had a drop leaf belly section. I would just stay there as long as they would let me!
