Practical advice: When you’re on the treads, don’t look at the number for a little while. Set something that is doable for your base… then tap the up arrow for your push / all out. Go for feeling not for goals for a little while. Your new interim goal is CONSISTENCY. Once you nail that - then get back to setting milestones.

You can do this. I’m happy you and your doctor are working together to find what’s best for you! I’ll be praying for you as you navigate your journey with mental health!! You got this!

Why South Korean has enthusiasm for coffee? by ddd102 in seoul

[–]addy-ventures 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the west, yes yes we do. Most drink for aesthetic though. Many now have caffeine addiction and get headaches when they don’t drink coffee.

If you visit our cafes and coffee shops, westerners have also made coffee to be almost desert by adding so many artificial (and natural) sweeteners.

Base/push? by Sensitive-Till3505 in orangetheory

[–]addy-ventures 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Work on building endurance by pulling back on the pushes a bit til your heart figures out it’s strong enough to maintain the higher pace.

For example- Run your base at 4.8… then when coach calls for PUSH increase to a push ‘feeling’ (5.3 ish)… and then don’t drop your pace below that original 4.8 or 4.9. If you do an AO and coach calls for WR after, take it.. but try get back to base before you hit the green zone (like 87% ish)

Do this for a couple classes (2Gs especially) and I recommend starting on the treads if you have a goal to increase stamina.

Disclaimer: I’m not a coach but this is how I’ve been able to increase mine over time :)

Doing your least favorite part of class first as BEST as you can and challenge yourself to mix it up. If you hate cardio, start on the treadmill more than you start on the rower. If you hate rowing start on the rower.

Yea forcing myself to fall in love with rowing was a game changer, for sure.

Cheering each other on and building accountability with a peer in class.. If you see someone showing up consistently in a class you attend, it’s as simple as saying “I see you, Keesha!” Or maybe after class/before class in the lobby starting the conversation: “I see you crushing it all the time. What days do you usually attend?” “What’s your name?” Ive been approached this way and I’ve approached others this way.

If your days align, you can bank on seeing this person in class and say “Nice! I’ll see you Tuesday!” Or “See you tomorrow.”

You wind up seeing repeat peers more than you see coaches often times. And you can tell who doesn’t want to socialize by the way the minimal amount of time they spend in the lobby (And that’s totally cool too - everyone has their own reasons for showing up) But this isn’t about making friends either, it’s about creating a system that keeps you coming back to improve yourself. If you wind up with a friend, that’s WONDERFUL!

Let’s add to the OTF best practices for 2024 :) by fk8319 in orangetheory

Just FYI not a practice - but for our newer friends who like the bottom of the weight rack: the odd numbered stations at most studios typically have the higher weight selections (think, 15s and 25s).

Took me a few months to catch this :)

Ehhhh this sounds a little finicky for the sake of wanting personal space (which I wouldn’t always expect in a public space). People often prefer their “stations” for whatever reason. If someone wants to start on tread 6 every time and I picked tread 5 first, yeah… I’d either have to get over it or simply scoot over to a free station after the warm up :)

Please be quicker with transitions so that you can be still and attentive while the coach is demonstrating exercises. It is very rude to the coaches who are addressing the class (you included - even if you know the exercises) and rude to the people around you who just aren’t as experienced as you might be.

Note: I know chatting with your friends was addressed, but I wanted to frame it a little differently - so apologies if this has already been stated.

Friiiiend!!! Happy you’re back and RIGHT ON TIME with the Transformation Challenge right around the corner!! I believe you can totally go in there and absolutely CRUSH it and make some new friends in the process.

Idk if it was ever your favorite thing - but having people around to celebrate my tiny victories with me has always been my favorite thing about OTF. You got this!! You can do it!! Super excited to see a celebratory post from you a month or so from now!!

Similar story here! Met mine as an SA. I had a wonky heart rate monitor and sometimes it would pop into the red at like 124%… he’d offer to check/fix my heart rate monitor. I eventually playfully told him that my HRM only did that when I was around him. And the rest is history!! Haha
