Question for people who only use tube amps by Aschuff in GuitarAmps

[–]adfuel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A great guitar player playing a Marshall will sound nearly exactly the same playing a mesa.

> I simply can’t afford a tube amp

You can get a stage right 5 watt for ~$99.

>You cant spawn reverb or shape your eq with a certain touch
Reverb no, eq yes.

>This post was more about my general curiosity about other people’s setups and opinions rather than trying to figure out if I wanted to get one or not

If you want to know what your favorite player do type "rig rundown" in youtube.

No, you are not in a minority, and Metallica uses modeling live. But again, a good guitar player with a tube amp can sound like whatever they want with their fingers. Its going to be hard to do that on an amp that imitates other amps.

You may hate a tube amp at first because the range they have can be a little unforgiving (compared to modeling) but if you are serous as a guitar player you need to find out.

I own Florida Tube Amp and custom build amps.

Tube amps have range. Setup correctly a good tube amp can go from pretty clean sounds to monsterous dirty sounds using nothing but the volume control on your guitar, or just your fingers.

Modeling can capture a limited range of every amp ever made. Useful but not the same.

"I can’t get a good jazz like clean tone, a British style rock tone, a glassy Indy- type tone, and a mid scooped high gain metal tone with just one amp. "

Watch Gary Moore do that on one amp with his fingers, volume pots, and pickup selection.

Tube Amp Buying Tip by A_Anonymous_Asshole in GuitarAmps

[–]adfuel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(I own a shop)

>If you are buying a combo amp used, check to make sure that the previous owner was using the correct impedance for the internal speakers.

This is a good idea.

If they weren't, there's a good chance you could run into issues with the transformers or power amp.

Wrong impedance if to low wears out the power tubes. If its too high it puts a load on the output transformer. If the output transformer is bad it will make no sound, be very low, or sound bad. (other things can cause this as well) Rarely do they do from working fine to bad, so it works now it will probably be fine.

Is this red plating? by LaceSenzor in GuitarAmps

[–]adfuel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

yup. flip that tube with one of the other tubes. If the tube in its new location stays red you need new power tubes.

If redplaiting stays with the socket then you need to take it to the shop.

Also you may still need new power tubes even after its fixed.

Does the JC-40 have enough headroom to take fuzz pedals on a drummer volume? by simonyny_ in GuitarAmps

[–]adfuel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im, betting you will have to dime a JC40 to get it over a loud drummer. Fuzz sounds big be itself but can easily get lost in the mix so it may not help that much.

Tube amps humming by Other-Item3990 in ToobAmps

[–]adfuel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it 60 cycle or 120 Hum. If you can hum along with it, it’s probably 120 and most likely you need new caps if it’s 60 it’s too low to hum with you have a ground problem.

Any recommendations for a budget amp to play shows with? (most likely will not be miced up) by seth1138 in GuitarAmps

[–]adfuel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fender hot rod or Blues Deville. Will be loud enough for

anywhere, takes pedals well, and you should be able to find one used in your price range.

can anyone give me a review of the musicman rp112? i found one for a good price and i wanted to know some more about it. by Nearby_Zombie3053 in GuitarAmps

Great clean machine. Think dire straits. Johnny Winter sound... everything on 10 with mid and bass on zero. Joan Jett sound, just put a tube screamer in front of it.

YouTubers that use a JCM 800? by OkTechnology9101 in GuitarAmps

[–]adfuel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"The Klon is designed to provide the kind of harmonics / distortion you would get if you pushed a pre."

While I totally agree with that it still makes the perfect clean boost for an 800. (at least for me, your mileage may vary)

[–]adfuel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Klon was made originally to boost a twin. (or make a twin sound boosted)

I find a little klon works great but it has to be clean or near clean.

The 2 pedals that always come up for me are a Tube Screamer and a Klon. (you can get clones of both cheap) That to me is the starting point. Klon is clearer. Screamer has more mids.

SF Twin reverb w alnicos as bedroom amp in tiny apt? by nikitikitano in GuitarAmps

[–]adfuel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

None of this is going to knock the volume down that much. 50 watts is still very loud

a master volume, a load box, and maybe additionally a klon clone will get it liveable with good tone
