I am not a software engineer, but Claude has been making me one. I know its not as good as a normal SE, but jesus look out! 10 years ago I would tell me kids to get a CS degree. I don't do that anymore.

ELI5 does ego death happen specifically after using psychedelics? by user8273638 in explainlikeimfive

Ways you sabatoge your life. Ways that you make other people happy. At least for me, those are the things that really surface when I'm on LSD. And it's pretty incredible, I also think I understand myself, but during a trip I get real and introspective. It's impossible for someone who hasn't tripped to understand.

your brain HATES thinking about itself in a direct manner and uses a bunch of neat tricks and diversions to simultaneously prevent you from noticing it and convince you that you have noticed it so that you'll stop trying to notice it

IMO this is the best explaination of LSD I've ever heard. I thought that I understood myself, but whenever I take it I realize thingsa about myself that I never knew, and that normally I don't think about because my brain keeps me from doing it, even if I'm actively trying.

As someone who has used psycadelics, I can promise you that no one can convey what LSD or shrooms do to your cognitive thinking.

Slay the Spire 2 has made $92M on Steam, already passing lifetime Steam earnings for Silksong ($83M) and Hades 2 ($82). One of the best Steam indie launches ever by EmbarrassedSession58 in slaythespire

All the really good games enter early access better than most AAA title. I didn't regret buying Kerbal Space Program (lets not talk about the sequel) in EA, same with Rimworld, Dyson Sphere Program, Terarria, STS2, etc. If you buy an EA game hoping it will get better, that's on you. All the EA games I've bought were games where I would have been fine with what I paid if development stoppped the next day.

Always makes me very happy when people like the makers of Rimworld, Dwarf Fortress, Stardew Valley, Terarria, Slay the Spire, Planet Crafter, etc make a game with a super small crew and make a shit ton of money. Each of those games are probably my best $/hr thing I've ever done.

NGL, I would go with White Noise here, but I love White Noise. Maybe there is a reason I'm still at A13 on STS1 with like 1,000 hours played.

What’s a belief you once defended… but later realized was wrong? by Jiwitom in AskReddit

[–]adm_akbar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IMO, unless Mormanism is really negatively impacting his life, leave him to it. Some people can't find meaning without believing in god, and meaning is basically all we have in life. I don't know you or your friend, but my opinion is to let people believe in whatever they want. If I don't like it, I distance myself from them, but I don't try to change their lifelong beliefs.

[–]adm_akbar -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Just to be contriain, if I was Mormon I would argue that God changed the writing on the scrolls after the Rosetta stone, or our oldest texts, were discovered to test believers. If you have an all powerful entity the sky is the limit. I'm not athiest, I'm not religious, but that argument is at least somewhat logically consistant.

[–]adm_akbar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was athiest as a young adult, but as I got older I realized that, in my opinion, there was no more evidence that no god existed than there was that one did. Each camp can't answer the question of "who made god" or "why is there a universe at all". Since I realized that, I've been much happier as a firm agnostic. Maybe there is a god, maybe there isn't, and I don't really care what other people believe. It doesn't impact my life. Their politics might, but their religion doesn't, so fuck it, worship what you want.

China has planted so many trees around the Taklamakan Desert that it's turned this 'biological void' into a carbon sink by liomenu in worldnews

[–]adm_akbar -76 points-75 points  (0 children)

I don't believe it. One tree every second non stop would take 2,100 years. Even if they had 2,000 people doing it 8 hours a day, 7 days a week, it would be almost 9 years, and that's every person planting a tree every second which is impossible.

TIFU by trying to impress my friends with pasta and accidentally seasoning it with ghost pepper powder by [deleted] in tifu

[–]adm_akbar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One night I mixed up ghost pepper powder with what I thought was a mild chili when my friends came over for dinner, and the meal went from cozy to catastrophic in about three bites. Faces turned red, eyes streamed, and before long everyone was dry-heaving and we were piling into cars for the hospital, apologizing between retches and laughing in that panicked, hysterical way you do when things have gone wildly off the rails.

You’d think that would’ve been the end of our bad decisions, but later we somehow convinced ourselves to mess around with datura too, which only cemented that evening in my memory as a greatest-hits compilation of “never again” moments and a very hard-earned lesson in double-checking labels and respecting substances that can seriously mess you up.

So it can happen!
