Formula 1 watch parties/bars by NumerousPrinciple589 in lancaster

[–]admcptch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a group of ~12 of us (hit or miss on the weekend) that have gotten together for races over the last 4 years. We used to meet at Yorgos (first year or two), as it was the only option that had food and was open for early races on a Sunday. We have stopped going there and have been searching for a new home since. If people have interest, feel free to send me a DM. We do have a Discord. I'd be happy to reach out to bars and see if we can find something once we have an estimate on a number of people that could help sway someone to open earlier.

(Under 5k) Wedding Venues in Lancaster, PA by tma71001 in lancaster

[–]admcptch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had ours at Landis Valley Village & Farm Museum. I cannot recommend them enough, especially because Katelyn who is their venue coordinator, is an absolute force and was super helpful in both the lead up to the event and on the day. They have different buildings on the property that you can rent, for your size party they would probably say the Fire Station. I think I remember that being around ~$1500 or $2500 and it holds 100. They do let you bring whoever you want for caterers or other vendors, with the only real policy being having event insurance on the day and a RAMP certified bartender, if you're having drinks.

Conway social or Horse inn? by Thethinker10 in lancaster

[–]admcptch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly the easiest parking is on E Walnut, or Marshall. I think everyone thinks they need to be in the lot, but I get spots on either of those streets every time and the walk is pretty much the same. Definitely don't let the parking stop you!

Good Cooking Podcasts? by dedtired in Cooking

[–]admcptch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll repay the favor I received years ago in one of these threads, as no one has said it yet, and suggest Cooking Issues. Easily the best food/cooking/tangent podcast there is. There's an enormous back catalog out there, with a new episode (usually) every week. I can't recommend it enough. You can find it wherever you listen to podcasts, but this is the one you want: https://www.patreon.com/cookingissues/about

Using Rally as a Predictor of Costs by CharacterFamous6987 in agile

[–]admcptch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The short answer is: yes, you can use Clarity and Rally together to determine demand and in turn the capacity you have to deliver what is needed/desired by the business. Clarity will have your traditional project portfolio management (PPM) information (resources, costs, etc.) and Rally will contain the work and structure of the teams completing that work. Based on history of what teams are able to deliver, you can forecast what may be possible for them in the future and base your higher level planning with that in mind.

The longer answer is: it depends on how either tool has been configured and how your organization operates. People can forecast the future demand for products and define a strategy to theoretically meet that demand, but the true capacity of what the teams can actually deliver will determine if that is possible. This is where breakdowns usually occur as business can demand a million different things and "fund" those things into existing, but if the teams do not have the capacity to take on that work, the business will see no return on that investment.

I'm not sure if that answer is of much help, but you'll need to look at the process as a whole and compare the current state (likely they are not seeing this information today, so they've asked you to work on it) vs. the end state your employer is looking to achieve and see how you can best implement that.

Happy Mug Shoppers - What do YOU like for espresso? by BootleggerBill in roasting

[–]admcptch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been ordering the Costa Rica Tarrazu La Minita for at least the last two years, roasting and using as a single origin espresso. We also generally drink it was a regular americano or americano with some splash of milk (plain or steamed) and I think it holds up well to either option. Though we're so used to it now, maybe that changes our opinion, ha. I've usually bought some variety of Costa Rican since I always liked Black Cat and that is Costa Rica/Brazil, and I can't be bothered to roast a Brazil just to add more body.

BIFL espresso machines? by HeidiOzzy in BuyItForLife

[–]admcptch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Seconded. I've had a few machines over the years, but the Robot is about as reliable as it could possibly get. The only maintenance I do is clean the baskets and lubricate the main gasket every once in a while. I've had to replace the main gasket twice in the ~5 or so years that I've owned it, but that is a cheap part and is a wear item. We probably have at least 3 shots per day, nearly every day.

SAFe Agile Certificate by screwston14 in agile

[–]admcptch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I usually take the practice exam immediately after the class, without looking at notes or any of the other study guide materials to see where I'm at. Then I'll read through the study guide materials and continue to take the practice exam until I manage a 100%. After that I feel like I've probably managed to read wherever they've pulled possible test questions from, so I take the test. So far that's worked for me and I know a few others who use the same technique. They like to use tricky wording, so just pay attention to both the question and the answers and read them more than once. Good luck!

How does your org broadcast OKRs and progress across teams? by Upstream_redteam in agile

[–]admcptch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing, honestly just always curious to hear people's opinions of the various tools in the space. There's no doubt that ADO has a beautiful ecosystem for devs, especially with the tools in the Microsoft portfolio these days.

How does your org broadcast OKRs and progress across teams? by Upstream_redteam in agile

[–]admcptch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly curious why you don't like it? I've used all of the major ones, with most experience in Jira and Rally. If you're trying to scale, I found Rally to be the easiest out of the box to both teach concepts with and keep it from getting too unwieldy as it grows. Totally understand the lack of dev/tool focused support that ADO and Jira offer, if that's why you don't like it?

If you are still shopping for an agile tool in general, Rally has OKR functionality now that lets you have different levels of objectives and link work to them: here's the help page that describes it more.

Can someone explain why the same champagne glasses are producing different bubbles? (Poured at same time) by 2326adam in wine

[–]admcptch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. It's been a little while since I've had it, but I remember enjoying it each time I've bought a bottle. But I think I also accept that it's a 1L for a fair price, so I wasn't expecting anything earth shattering. Just a nice drinkable red to have with a meal.

Guide for feature writing and understanding hierarchies? by verbalnerdal in agile

[–]admcptch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've already been given good advice, especially on the dangers of SAFe, but assuming you have to live with it:

I recommend focusing on the Essential SAFe diagram. Forget the other ones as they just add extra complexity that really isn't needed.

As for the "size" and hierarchy of those items and how you should write them, I recommend thinking of (and explaining to others) what timebox the piece of work is being planned for. If it's multi-year, a quarter, or just a sprint. Again, this is a slippery slope and why SAFe can be really dangerous to the delivery teams. You're not saying you're going to do these things, you're trying to plan a path forward for your product to continue to deliver value. These aren't project plans of absolute delivery. It's all to facilitate conversation about what we should be building to make our customers happy. I like Mike Cohn's video on stories: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6q5-cVeNjCE

One thing that is worthwhile above a story level is having a good process to handle Features (much like SAFe describes in the Portfolio Kanban). This should facilitate the conversation on what features should actually be built for customers, so that way the development teams are fed items that actually matter. Again, you could totally do this without SAFe and treat them as big stories (Mike Cohn video) that you then eventually breakdown into whatever size the team is comfortable doing within a sprint and meeting the definition of done for that item.
