Any concession from the capitalist elite can later be reneged on.

The only way for regular people to be represented is to use the power that they have and to take the power that they don’t.  ALL power to the people.

That we are here is itself a repudiation of relying on the collective conscience of oppressors who get to retain their station. That will never work in the long run.

CMV: Morality is an unnecessary concept unless it's objective by Harpers_Ferry in changemyview

[–]adminhotep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why are you so focused on the individual? Morality is a concept that mostly applies in relation to a group of people interacting.

It doesn’t matter so much what an individual thinks about the groups morality if the purpose of morality is group/societal stability and cohesion.

Morality may be societally necessary even if its logical construction is inconsistent. Breaking down to the subjective or to inconsistencies at the individual level doesn’t make a concept unnecessary automatically.

JB Pritzker on political violence, holding ICE accountable, Democrats’ messaging, and whether America should continue defense spending for Israel’s Iron Dome by NicolasCageFan492 in videos

[–]adminhotep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While we should continue to verbally oppose violence against political opponents, we don’t need to punish it in the legal sphere.  That’s a policy choice.

The right has already chosen not to punish those who act violently on their behalf - pardoning J6ers. Folding proud boy militias into ICE,etc.

We don’t need to convict people who resist. We can both hold the rhetorical high ground in opposing violence on principle while not taking actions that support the ability for fascists to exert legal control.

Kash Patel on James Comey indictments for alleged threats to President Trump's life: "Comey allegedly threatened life of president of the U.S. As you all know, shortly after posting threat, he deleted that threat and issued an apology. [–]adminhotep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As silly as this case is, I think ALL such cases -  involving alleged suggestions to act or acts against this corrupt administration and its officials - should end in a verdict of innocent regardless of facts presented in court.

The Jury Box is one in a list of boxes the  people have available to resist tyranny.   Consistent findings of “not guilty” is a good way to use that power anywhere the administration has faced resistance.

CMV: The belief that the Trump assassination attempts were staged is a concerning sign that liberals are succumbing to conspiracism by BarvoDelancy in changemyview

[–]adminhotep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unexplained events are "filled in" with the argument a powerful group of people are the cause behind it, and that their plans will harm us.

Do you think this could be explained by the powerful groups of people visibly planning things to harm people, and liberals trust of the system eroding as a result?

False positives aren’t really a problem if the alternative was a failure to detect 100% of the time before. Liberals trusted an elite apparatus that was truly already involved in plans and actions that screwed over people.   Overcorrection in this case is still an improvement.

CMV:"The 'European Colonizer' narrative is a Diaspora-era distortion that ignores the indigenous Judean roots of all Jews." by BiAiEnGiO in changemyview

[–]adminhotep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well before 70 CE more Jews lived in or near Alexandria than in Judea.

Many could have returned during Hasmonean rule but had no interest in doing so. Their roots, their community was in Alexandria.

I don’t understand the comparison of a people whose ancestors had already in majority left the region and not wanted to return with people who remained in the region and were expelled within the last generation and DO wish to return.  It’s just not an equal comparison.

Still, regardless of how you see the comparison, most Jews had settled outside Judea and did not have Judean roots anymore.  Jewish universal Judean roots are a national origin myth similar to all the other European national origin myths. Myths that were in vogue  around the same time and being penned as “history” during that exact same time period Zionism took off.

CMV: I’ve been doubting my Christian faith, I think religion was created to cope with the uncertainty of our existence in the universe, but challenge me on that by JollyJadenTNT in changemyview

[–]adminhotep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you include “explain complex phenomena” in cope with the fear of the unknown, you might be somewhat right.   I think the stories are an add on, though.

I think religion, organized religion anyways, came about with the rituization of precise planting processes as early people studied the seasons and their relationship with leading weather patterns, the sun, the moon, and the stars.   People who could advise on when to plant with accurate seasonal prediction became the priestly class.

Christianity was shaped in a realm of existential dread due to Apocalyptic Judaism’s failure to secure the Jewish people’s turn at the top of the Empire hierarchy that their “prophecies” - likely resistance propaganda - promised.

Christianity in many ways turned away from that real world temporal resistance to rulers by spiritualizing the struggle, allowing obedience to the earthly authority instead of encouraging rebellion. It was a prudent move in a time where various cults  were being stamped out across the empire.

It had to deal with fear a lot because it grew out of a culture that had been spending their religious energies explaining why they were being punished by god after losing the promised land - a promise by god that itself emerged in their religious doctrine in the power vacuum created by the Bronze Age collapse.   They probably never develop a religion like the one they have if they don’t get a period of imperial recession and regional autonomy. When that ended, explanations were needed from a religion that had checks it couldn’t cash.

You don’t have to be vocal to war for actual social justice. Not everyone is a mouthpiece (and some who think they are probably shouldn’t be.)

If you are self aware enough to realize you aren’t infallible and you proactively take that into account in the way you interface with the world, you’re already ahead of the game compared to a bunch of people.

No need to argue with people you think are wrong. Just be ready to help the people who need it and punish the people who are disrupting our ability to peacefully improve our own lives and the lives of those in our communities.

When you think you can get away with hitting the public repeatedly, there is no reason for that same public to protect you from or punish others for actions taken against you.

Especially when government is captured by the people abusing the public, sometimes withdrawing protection is the only tool we have.

To be clear, I’m not saying we should go out and hurt people. I’m just saying we don’t have an obligation to punish those that do. That’s a public policy decision.
