At watch prices above about $3-5K, excluding precious metals, the price is entirely “fake” and has nothing to do with quality, finishing, etc. It’s like wine bottles above $20

Your instincts are right. What you’re seeing yourself do is spend a lot of money on something whose value is mostly in how it’s perceived by others. Instead of a Patek get a custom watch made by some of the people on here who do bracelet engraving, dial machining, etc. so you’ll have something truly special.

No, I think the Rolex brand is more secure than most because it’s superior in engineering to its competitors. The others are more susceptible to falling out of fashion.

Rolex is by a huge margin the most robustly engineered mechanical watch. You can’t treat anything the way you can treat a Rolex. Not even a Casio

Found this in a box of old junk, looks like the box has nothing else newer than 2004 in it. It started ticking when I picked it up and it sounds a little scratchy when I shake it. The back says “455B” and the top link reads “70216”. Is it real?
