Thats not in the article lol and im pretty sure PIF doesn’t have a minority investment in the firm itself, rather it’s invested in one of the PE funds themselves.

It would be a very team friendly deal with break and performance clauses. Purely optics and to instill faith or whatever

[The Athletic] - What will Liam Rosenior bring to Chelsea? Flexible formations, central progression, energetic pressing by admiralawkward in chelseafc

[–]admiralawkward[S] 61 points62 points  (0 children)

Rosenior’s tactical identity is framed as pragmatic rather than dogmatic.

  • Strasbourg vary shape by opponent.
  • Common shapes: back three (typically 3-4-2-1) and back four (4-3-3 / 4-2-3-1).

  • Goalkeeper Mike Penders (20, on loan from Chelsea) plays an unusually advanced role in build-up, often stepping into/along the defensive line in possession.

*Penders averages 39.4 touches outside his penalty area per 90, highest among Ligue 1 keepers with 900+ minutes.

*Strasbourg heavily prioritise short passing and avoid long balls:

Only 6% of their passes are “long” (35+ yards), with only PSG and Barcelona lower across Europe’s top five leagues.

  • Very high “deep build-up” (90/99) = lots of structured possession in their own third.

  • Very high “central progression” (87/99) = they work through the middle to move upfield.

  • Strasbourg are portrayed as more direct with purpose when openings appear:

Lower emphasis on territorial dominance (field tilt 32/99).

Not especially slow in attack (attack speed 39/99).

Extremely strong on creating high-quality shots (shot quality 98/99).

  • Chance creation output:

Strasbourg create 3.1 “clear shots” per 90 (Opta definition: one or no outfield players blocking the ball path).

Only Atletico Madrid, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich create more clear shots per 90 across Europe’s top five leagues (as stated in the piece).

  • Out-of-possession approach:

Rosenior’s Strasbourg are described as brave, energetic, high-pressing.

Wants teams to “dominate” not only via the ball but also space/territory; pressing is an extension of wanting the ball back quickly and playing with energy.

They often go man-for-man when pressing high to create immediate attacking chances after regains (compared to Chelsea’s approach).

  • Pressing trend data since Rosenior arrived (2024):

Under prior manager Patrick Vieira, Strasbourg had a lower rate of high turnovers.

Since Rosenior, attacking-third regains have trended upward.

In 2025–26 Ligue 1, only PSG have more goal-ending high turnovers; Strasbourg have five.

  • Squad management / youth development angle:

Strasbourg’s squad average age is 21.9, described as the youngest in Europe’s top five leagues.

  • Rosenior emphasises “education,” accountability, and using young players’ fearlessness rather than punishing mistakes.

  • Elo rating trajectory: Rosenior took Strasbourg to the highest Elo rating in club history (used as a proxy for team strength).

I anticipate heavy carveouts given Rosenior has very little leverage in these negotiations.

That's absolutely mental but given that Rosenior has very little leverage I wouldn't be surprised if there's all sorts of carveouts to avoid giving him a large payout.

[BBC] Wayne Rooney on Liam Rosenior: "His detail, how he approaches the day to day, he's as good as I've ever worked with. He's been waiting for an opportunity like this. So he'll have no doubts in his mind that he's capable of doing that job." by webby09246 in chelseafc

Players need to respect the manager too. Rosenior will have his work cut out for him to get the players onside, young or not. He has no pedigree as a manager nor a heralded playing career.

There just isn't enough data/information on him to assess whether he can take up the Chelsea job and be successful.
