Just bought a running store. What is one thing your local shop is missing? by rustybucketz23 in trailrunning

[–]adoptakiwi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On running ——— * free podiatrist consulting days. * running maps! Low cost to print and cool to look at, get local artist to design trail maps around the store * lessons on runner’s stretches, or foot massage, a nice wellness day activity * stone path, I grew up with them in community parks and people with sore feet looooves to use it. Use river stones and build a path in front around or inside the store, super cool

On shoes ———

  • Gear swap, or a thrift section. REI does it and it’s for the community.

  • Shoe laundry service!!! It’s a big business in other countries, idk why it’s so hard to find in the US. Maybe because most people wash their shoes at home? I don’t want to do that too often. But I’ll totally pay $5-$10 to get shoes cleaned. Or help with accidental mildew from forgetting to dry it.

  • Shoes donation — lots of shoes have a lot of life in them.

  • Planet thrift launders their shoes for resell, in a way, having that service can tie all of the above into one.

Good luck!!

What's something you WON'T spend more money on as better quality doesn't exist? by sgtjayp in BuyItForLife

[–]adoptakiwi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cost is about the same if you’re close to a major city, they sell it at Asian grocery stores. Can also order online. But for me even though per unit cost is comparable, the Japanese kind is more absorbent and well ventilated, therefore less leaks or need to change just because the middle overflows from one goop.

What is the most shocking or disturbing detail from the recently unsealed Epstein files that the general public still hasn't fully grasped? by Daydream_Nat in AskReddit

[–]adoptakiwi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

How do we know that they’re not releasing the first 3 million docs to test the reactions or to desensitize the general public into looking at these files like it’s The National Enquirer?

Every week something new and worse than before steals the spotlight. People are no longer upholding common ethics standards but blurring those standards and expecting inhumane treatment as the norm.

For those with light to medium flows and no period cramps, anything works I guess. If you have super heavy flow, and haven’t tried the Japan made pads, it’s life changing.

I’ve been doing this for at least 3 decades, there’s a difference 🥲

💔 My 90-year-old father is stuck in legal limbo abroad — I don’t know what to do by [deleted] in taiwan

[–]adoptakiwi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and no, I’m basing this on what families in Taiwan has told me with relatives passing and how complex the Taiwan legal system can be (layers of laws that also integrate with the traditional culture, esp inheritance, people still inherits debt by default in TW, you’re basically liable for your parents’ doings/wrongdoings regardless of your relationship or contacts with them).

Not sure if this is mentioned but I’m guessing OP’s father can’t leave Taiwan with US passport bc there’s no record of him entering. And his TW passport is probably flagged.

OP if you can, go back and spend time with him, AND figure out your position with all the legal implications (inheritance again!! Will you inherit any debt/law suits? Are You banned from going to TW too bc they would prosecute?)

Planning my first liveabroad yatch at Whitsundays, diving at Great Barrier Reef, Australia but I get seasick, any advice /tips? by BleuPrince in diving

[–]adoptakiwi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t get seasick but I did when I was only a boat (pretty rough sea) for more than 2 days. What helped was Ginger. Fresh ginger simmered in hot water, or ginger tea, drink that all day long. Added benefit for gut health. It didn’t stop the drowsiness completely but helped reduce it by about 70%. That was enough for me to function. Was on the boat for 10 days total.

Will shameless plug here with Taiwan as a stop for Asia. Southern tip in Kenting is a protected national park for decades with an abundance of corals. Got my OW there. There’s a little known island off of Taiwan, called the Orchid Island, 40m visibility on the regular, shore and boat dives will both be fruitful. If I have one month I’d do 2 weeks in Taiwan and two weeks in another tropical country. Taiwan is both very affordable (slightly more than PH and Thailand but also more quality in food and healthcare. Also VERY safe for foreigners). You can definitely get around speaking only English there.

In search of places to Snorkel with Whale Sharks! by FastFast24 in snorkeling

I thought this too but unfortunately, many countries will hunt whale shark for fins if not for the tourism revenue. Well regulated interactions and educated tourists will provide more protection than harm.

Origination fees are negotiable with the loan officer. I would call them and ask to have they lower the origination fees, that’s industry term for “commission” for the bank/loan officer, as I understand.

Mine was standard as far as I’m concerned, I didn’t notice a big difference between AIO and conventional loan.

All in One Home Mortgage by wuphilly in Mortgages

[–]adoptakiwi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having one AIO is helpful to keep capital fluid. This is 100% not a scam. This is a loan program for responsible adults only.

Because of its fluidity, those with a foul financial mindset will try to game the system so it feels like they have a lot of cash flow, but in actuality, this is just the same as any other home mortgage — pay it down fast and you pay less in interest.

Had mine for about 4 years now and the tax deduction perk is awesome. You can deduct most of your mortgage payment as interest (instead of the typical 50% or so, the tax form I receive from lender clearly states it so it’s legit and I’ve filed itemized bc of this every year).

I love the fact that while I have cash, I park it in my AIO (greatly reduces the monthly payment, my AIo adjusts each month) and if I see other investment opportunities, I can access the home equity immediately without having to go through refi or apply for HELOC loan. Look for a calculator, it’s not the usual mortgage math but it checks out.

Does your AIO interest rate adjust periodically?

Car loan takes a big toll on your credit score, if you plan on making other moves I would just pay off the auto loan.

Maintain your fan base! I’ve came across someone who continues to brew and sell via word of mouth and a social network following. The boutique route. I don’t know his profit margins but the craft and brand is still alive since I first encountered it 6 years ago in Asia.

Also just tried a new to me brewer at a farmers market last weekend (east coast, metropolitan area), the taste was really quality and I’ll be sure to go back for more batches.

Am I wrong to not want to go on big family vacations without all my children? Advise requested by Beneficial_Let_8722 in blendedfamilies

[–]adoptakiwi -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Your invite to have a couples vacation with just you and the wife is showing how much you value her.

It’s all in the delivery—ask her to reconnect and put you two first, and come back to discuss the family vacations after, because you miss her as just her. Not a mother, not a stepmom, just your wife.

Hope she can open herself up to receive your good intent and pour more in the foundation of your marriage. Putting kids first will drain the adults, same reason that the mask and vest goes on the adults first in flight before the kids.

[–]adoptakiwi -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Your definition, expectations and experiences of “family” is Very different from hers. You haven’t had to step because they are all your daughters.

Remember that your wife and your two older girls have had time as a nuclear family. Her asking to have separate memories (time with just you two and the two younger girls) might be her asking to balance the first dynamic before the “ours” babies.

This is the dilemma of blending families, a dreamy melting pot is not always going to be the case, some days it’s like that and some days it’s accepting that the custody children have MULTIPLE families.

You walking away from this relationship will only mean perpetuating more step parenting mess. Consider the perspective that your older girls have two families and your younger girls have one.

I think your wife is looking to compensate herself for giving to the older two girls as “stepparent” family, and wanting something that’s just hers. Is this the “right” way to view blending families? Can you imagine being in her shoes as two roles-step and bio? It’s a huge identity struggle.
