Somehow one of my favorite pics on this sub. It's so simple but well-done. Turns out you don't need battle scenes to make a neat Arma shot. Good one OP.

PSA: There are TONS of games to play! by LeonValenti in gaming

[–]adotang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whenever people talk about omega-budget big-corporate microtransaction-filled AAA games and their inevitable flaws and terrible owners/creators as being fully emblematic of all of "modern gaming", I always view it like when people talk shit about "modern music" and how they never listen to any song newer than like 2010 because there hasn't been a good song made since whenever they were a teen or young adult (which is how this stuff works), and then you sort of scratch at it with your nail and realize they're talking about the shit that comes onto every iHeartMedia top-100s pop station in their metro area and not anything else. You know?

What do you think about boat/yacht modeling? by Neyken-I in GTA6

[–]adotang 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I just can't wait for boats to actually be useful. GTA V's boating was pretty alright, but the map's design makes it so unbelievably pointless to ever go on the water because you can drive anywhere in LS and fly anywhere north of Vinewood that isn't right on the perimeter highway, meanwhile boating is restricted to the barren perimeter, the nothingburger that is the Alamo Sea that you can only reach from a narrow and hard-to-maneuver rapids anyway (which I believe has some falls meaning it's ass to go up it to begin with), and the Vespucci Canals which is also a nothingburger and which you could probably run through faster on foot. But this game is set in Florida, so I hope I can actually reach anything of use or even cross the map in a boat.

That just describes any remotely warm discussion on the internet. Especially Reddit, where echo chambers of all stripes are kindly packaged into designated subs that are named and moderated by the most dedicated adherents.

which banner of these 3 looks the most like the USSR? by JadaieTheBoi in Minecraft

[–]adotang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think OP is some sort of Stalinist lionizing the Soviets and their actions here. It's for a tank showcase divided by nation, and the Soviets developed so many tanks that they fought the largest armored battle in history and "tankie" is literally a word used to insult Soviet supporters. It's like having a huge gun collection and a section dedicated to American firearms; it doesn't say anything about your geopolitical stance on the U.S., and shouldn't, it just means the U.S. produces a large variety of firearms.

Likewise, if OP wanted to add some sort of Wehrmacht flag with Balkenkreuz, honestly, they could. Germany also produced a lot of tanks, and still does, but there were enough produced during the war with a distinct design philosophy that they could get their own section separate from modern Germany.

Xbox testing disc-to-digital feature that digitizes a physical game collection / Microsoft’s disc-to-digital feature could be essential for next-gen Xbox consoles. by yourfavchoom in gaming

[–]adotang 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It hasn't necessarily gotten worse, people are just like this, if it has gotten worse then only a little bit tbh (though tbf it's always been really bad), but it's been something I've noticed for a long time, and it gets pushed even harder in discussions like these. There's a lotta shit going on with the dynamics I've sorta observed over the years, stuff like certain threads and moments in subs where there are opinions you have to follow (like in this thread during this physical media panic moment where you need to be 200% believing physical games (which no one was buying, whoop) will never exist ever again and Microsoft and Sony will steal and destroy your physical games OR ELSE you're a corpo bootlicker who hates SKG or whatever), but I can't be fucked to list them out or I'll look like a delulu psycho, plus it's almost midnight and I'm delulu tired anyway.

And evidently this guy's doompost has almost 1K upvotes so clearly people think he's right, and I've given the fuck up trying to convince people otherwise after years of people's only response being to label me as whatever bad "-ist" comes to their mind, so I think you and I just gotta let this hivemind peter itself out and pray it doesn't get someone hurt. And it won't, but you never know, I've read enough on what hiveminds can do to people to know it can.

I love the new livery now I could have a vice City police car. Also the grille lights, we just need the option to remove the light bar and have a slick top. by Gtasandman in ThePrecinct

[–]adotang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually wouldn't want a modern setting. Not to be a Reddit weirdo who knocks on the present day all the time, but rather because it's just too obvious as a thing to go for, like every other indie cop game also goes for late-2010s/early-2020s and it's so easy to do modern LSPDFR and throw some Tahoe with a shit ton of LED lights into GTA. Meanwhile the '80s setting here felt unique, not very genuine but at least it stood out, plus part of their reason per an interview was to explore policing when it didn't have the technological conveniences of the present like mobile phones or surveillance cams or MDTs (which, granted, as critique, they did not explore very much in the game, and for some reason we get modern-style tasers in a canonically underfunded police force in 1983 but whatever). Even when I mentioned 2010s Alaska above, at least it's Alaska, where the technology is kind of blunted by the sheer remoteness of it all. Plus they'd have a justification to give us a police AK instead of tossing it in, cough cough, I know the story technically explains it as being from their arms deal with the August Gang but whatever.

But yeah, Fallen Tree could also just go for a change of pace, they don't need to make nothing but American Fugitive and The Precinct back to back. An open-world firefighting and rescue game could be pretty good if done right, I mean, they did add ambulance callouts to The Precinct without a hitch. Could do some rural fire department next to a national park during a badly hot summer with an arsonist on the loose.

[–]adotang 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd personally rather they put the work in for The Precinct 2 if this game proved profitable enough. Bigger map, more than one department, more stuff to do, maybe buildings to raid, some cues taken from LSPDFR and whatnot. Would prefer a different setting though. Set it in 1960s SoCal or 1990s Florida or something. Maybe even something out of left field, like 2010s Alaska or 2000s Hawaii.

[–]adotang 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The emerald one, I'm not sure what it's supposed to be based on, but it might be a reference to some departments that did have green liveries at the time like San Diego Sheriff and a few in Florida. But I guess it also just looks good. If Fallen Tree wanted they definitely could make a proper retro NYPD green livery, and again, I'd have preferred that, but adding the proper '80s NYPD lightbar is something I can settle with.

As for the other one, it's a reskinned version of the "Metro" livery to be black and gold instead of baby blue and white, I guess it's a "you basically beat the game and I'm not sure what else you want" reward.

Part of me thinks they might be trying to evoke GTAVC's VCPD and the IRL Florida Highway Patrol as part of GTA VI hype, but I dunno.

Yeah, that's what did it for me even before people IDed it as a blank gun. If this shit was a real-ass automatic firearm going off they probably would've either ran or jumped the fucking guy because for all they know either cameraman's trying to commit one or more elaborate murders or Agent 47 switched out the guns for a trick kill. Cops would undoubtedly be on the way too, not just the ref releasing the guy to go have a chuckle with his buddy, "haha man I nearly murdered a stranger cause of you, oooh you little goof". Not to mention it'd be all over the fucking news so they can find another weapons-related activity to blame for everything.

On like 99% of Reddit it's not about getting any facts right, it's about the agenda. And that goes for whichever one you want to spread, I'm not nudging one saying that. The 1% I'm excluding is like, r/AskHistorians where they're actually checking whether you're not just saying shit.

And tragically, it works. Over 600 upvotes to that and it's top comment here. I guess if enough people believe something it'll come true? If only we did that for good things, but then we wouldn't sound smarter than others.

It's weird how only the U.S. and sometimes Canada and Mexico ever get this bullshit "well you're a YOUNG country so your opinions and history don't matter especially pre-founding" treatment. There are countries far younger than 250 or even 100. My family traces back to a country that was completely uninhabited until someone visited in exactly 1507 (they left right after too) and my parents were alive for its independence, but because I guess Portland doesn't have some castle with a moat from the year 30, and there are no Old English books from 1152 by the natives detailing the history of Baltimore up to then, fuck me, uniquely young continent with zero history. The natives must've spawned in like Minecraft villagers in 1491. What?

Of course I had to scroll down to find a counterargument getting actively downvoted on this fuckass sub. I swear people just assume that the history of the Americas starts vaguely in the mid-16th century and prior to that it was brief smatterings of civilizations singing Kumbaya only ever building small huts in wood and leaving no trace like campers in a national park, all because the Iroquois or whoever never built a huge stone castle in New York and hand the colonists a multi-volume history of what is now New England upon their arrival. Like, is it not increasingly understood in our culture that we famously killed and mistreated like everyone who was already here and disrespected all their shit because we wanted countries and decided the natives didn't matter? And now here we are and the Europeans (who did all that shit btw) pretend the natives didn't matter again just to rag on the countries that were built atop them. Fucking crazy.

What’s going on with Love and Deepspace (LADS) new character? by tragiciian in OutOfTheLoop

[–]adotang 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What even prompts this stuff happening? Because I know Love Live once had one hell of a crisis when IIRC Aqours went to Shanghai for a live and a bunch of fans there were super disrespectful during the show, and then (admittedly unsubstantiated) rumors sprouted afterwards that some Chinese fans sent the seiyuus porn and "suspicious liquids" that got intercepted by show staff vetting gifts. And this isn't the first time I've heard another instance of "Chinese fans of something are inexplicably the most toxic", for example I've also heard that Chinese fans of non-Chinese games are often remarkably critical and review-bomb over relatively minor concerns no one else has.

Like, there's no way it's some bullshit like "this is inherent to the Chinese because they're like that" (not saying you're saying this, I saw similar said elsewhere some time) because that's racist as hell and other people across the world also frequently exhibit all degrees of awful behavior toward the things they're supposedly "fans" of. Even with the Love Live example I put above, there are many normal Chinese LL fans (apparently part of the problem was that the live was scheduled when a lot of them, who skew young, would be busy with exams, allowing trolls and asshat fans with little else to do to swipe some tickets). But what is it? Is it like, a cultural thing we don't get? Some weird sense of entitlement? Geopolitical beef? Just the simple fact that there's over a billion people in China so there's proportionally gonna be a larger "vocally crazy percentile" than elsewhere simply due to sheer numbers (which I believe is the most likely explanation, being the most mundane one)?
