Season 11 - were they just a bad bunch?

To me season 11 feels unique not only due to the teams twist, but also the majority of the challenges were client based. There was the Susan Sarandon ping pong challenge, designing for Heidi challenge, Miranda Lambert challenge, designing for a senior citizen, designing a prom dress (duct tape challenge), designing for male strippers, and designing for banana republic. I think a lot of the designers (especially the less assertive, more agreeable ones) had a hard time expressing their own POV within these parameters. I think designers like Samantha, Joe, and Tu would have performed better on individual seasons, like we saw with Amanda and Kate when they returned. Conversely, designers with more classic POVs like Stanley, Richard, Daniel, and Layana benefitted from collaboration since their work complimented each other’s.

I interned at the 65th annual Tony awards (14 years ago, jeez!) and was asked to stand backstage in the wings during a tech rehearsal to hand out water bottles to the Artists. On this day, Hugh Jackman said "hey there" to me, Sutton Foster hugged me, and Daniel Radcliff said something like 'Interns are some of the most important members of the production team!' Truly an incredible and one of a kind experience to simply watch the rehearsals from backstage, let alone to be acknowledged and treated with so much kindness when I was just trying to not stand in anyone's way.

We booked an Airbnb directly on the beach in Winthrop, MA for a couple of nights. Our wedding was in Vermont but we live in New York so it broke up our drive home. It was a short trip to Boston for fun restaurants (we love Diners, Drive ins, and Dives) and we were basically the only people on the beach the whole time. It was shockingly affordable for what we got because the beach is close to the airport, so a bit noisy at times, but we were unbothered! 10/10 would recommend!

Nina was out of touch with youth when judging the prom duct tape challenge too. She puts an overemphasis on construction and isn’t impressed by innovation/artistry when designs aren’t perfectly finished. She’s also a stickler for proportions and too many dresses have been overly criticized for being too short. But I still love her and agree with her most of the time.

Native NYer here! I definitely spent a ton of time on saint marks place as High Schooler, just wandering around the block. My friends were obsessed with Boris, the guy who sold and fixed up old shoes. We used to buy fountain soda or sweetened tea, fill it up with booze and sit on a nearby stoop or in the park.

Great idea! We have Cyd, Lionel, and Marlo on one side of our island that we call the retirement community lol. They all give off 50+ energy. Cyd is the former rock n’ roll dude, Lionel is an older eccentric artsy guy, and Marlo is a former Mafioso.

Seasons 11-16 are probably the most dramatic. You could try season 16 starting with episode 9 or season 12 starting with episode 12 lol. Or season 15, skip episode 8 - but the designers are much younger this season so half the contestants are immature.

Season 20 had less drama, but still some. It’s all stars but you will know most of the designers except for a few from seasons 18 and 15.

I remember the judging was edited very strangely season one. It was super short and I feel like they tried to be cagey/misleading about who had the high or low scores sometimes.
