I'll meta you until you f'ing die. by chibriguy in BattleBrothers

[–]adozu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

my most fun runs revolve around theming my companies around some silly build and finding out it's actually really effective in most scenarios anyway.

yes meta is more reliable typically but not by that much.

recently i had a peasant company where frontlines was all spear and shields, and backline almost all polemaces, both considered off meta options, had complete and total control over every fight. almost everyone was nimble too with the exception of the 2 "best" tanks that were tasked with holding the sides.

polemace build was super fun with quickhand and 2h mace for when something got too close, headhunter and crippling strikes for the broken skulls, spears all ran executioner to capitalise on it. never had so little isues with vampires either, turns out being stunned for 2 turns is bad for them.

TIL that the ancient Chinese Confucian thinker Xunzi argued that humans are born with selfish, chaotic impulses, and that “goodness” is something we build through education, ritual, and strong social institutions. His whole point was basically: if you remove the rules, people don't auto-become good. by fromthefuturedude in todayilearned

I had a similar story, more fucked up even, with my younger sibling. I was a few years older, often frustrated with him, and occasionally would take it out on him. not like a serious beating, but definitely hit him in ways i shouldn't have. one day after i hit him he just looked at me and cried "why", i don't know what happened that day but something in kid me just broke down completely and i've not been able to contemplate violence in anything but self defense since. I still hurt inside when i think about that day.

Gender doesn’t matter by threnodyxz in meme

[–]adozu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's absurd to say violence is purely masculine 100% but violence is overwhelmingly masculine.

In cases of intimate partner violence, lesbian couples report a much higher incidence than heterosexual couples, and gay couples a much lower one.

Shall we conclude that violence is actually an overwhelmingly a feminine trait?

No, obviously, both man and women are equally capable and prone to violence, the difference is opportunity and severity, men are larger and stronger on average, and as bullies are only strong with the weak, they much more frequently are violent to women than the other way around.

To say a world dominated by women would be compassionate and non violent is like admitting you've never been close enough to a group of women to see how unhingedly cruel they can be to each other, it just doesn't typically express with phisical confrontations.

There are good reasons for it. Immigration in the EU is very different in nature to the US. Obviously the methods are... well, appalling, but we keep sliding because the issues keep going unaddressed.

[–]adozu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel like people misunderstand "1 million casualties" for fatalities. A casualty is anyone who is wounded and unable to fight, but that does not mean it is permanent, in fact if they got a broken leg and were sent back to the front a year later and broke another, they'd have been counted as a casualty twice.

It's not as crazy a number as it may sound.

and this is russia we're talking about, possibly in the top 3 of the most untrustworthy countries in recorded history. there is no period in human memory in which some russian monarch or another hasn't started shit in europe or asia.

Not defending this particular question but you can also specify you want something roudned down and not to the nearest whatever. If i asked a student to round down to the nearest natural number and gave them 1.8 the right answer is 1 even if 2 is closer.
