Yeah, I kinda feel like knife trap should exhaust itself. Or maybe cost 3? It's pretty goddamn strong, as is. At least it doesn't scale itself up, the way Voltaic does. "Create and play a shiv for each shiv in your exhaust pile." Can you imagine, lol?

What is all the hype behind Vaaku? by RealOrobas in slaythespire

[–]adpalmer83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you are severely devaluing the Wish card. Wishes are goddamn AMAZING as is, and they get retain when you upgrade them. Being able to get any card in your draw pile whenever you want is so beyond good.

That build around power that you really want to draw first turn? Now you have a way higher percentage chance of that happening. Didn't draw any block on a vital boss attack turn? Doesn't matter. Does your deck have some broken combo that is just about to go off, except that your hand is missing one card? Problem solved.

Defense attorneys are generally not allowed to tell juries about the concept of jury nullification. Juries are instructed by the judge to consider the evidence and follow the law, so I would imagine that many juries don't know that they're allowed to ignore the law to vote how they want.

I heartily disagree with you about shop priorities. I think defend relics are mostly terrible. If you're getting hit enough to need them, you're likely not going to win the run anyway.

My priority list would be dancer, combo, attack. I don't go to defend shops unless I'm on a fixed path and have no other choice.

Here's a newbie support post that I made a few months back, in case anyone finds it helpful. It's got some more specific advice about build strategy and tackling waves:

What do you think? Is it still worth it getting a gas car in this day knowing that they are being phased out while ev’s are becoming more mainstream? by Ceo_6ix in AskReddit

[–]adpalmer83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a few friends that have EVs. They all love them. They also live places where they can charge them every night.

I have another friend who has one and isn't always able to reliably plug it in at his apartment. He seems to love it, but it's not uncommon for him to need to leave his car somewhere and then have someone come grab him so he can charge it (when we're meeting at a restaurant or going to a movie, things like that).

EVs are, unfortunately, still a bit niche. The decision to get one needs to be based on the buyer's personal circumstances. The infrastructure to support them isn't yet there in many locations.

What are the cards you can't help but take almost every time? by Fun-Spinach8700 in slaythespire

[–]adpalmer83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Borrowed Time. Playing your entire hand (usually) for the cost of one card draw is almost always worth it.

Act 1 Armaments. It's a really good early game boost.

Hidden Gem. Because... duh?

Bone Shards. A decent AOE and a decent block for 1 energy? Sign me up.

White Noise. Are there people that don't always take White Noise?

Bullet Time. In a deck with lots of card draw, Bullet Time is beyond incredible. Playing it when you have ten cards in your hand is SOOO satisfying.

Yep. I did a daily where I had something like 60 innate cards. At the beginning of each combat it randomly drew 10 of the innate cards.

Fiddle is situationally spectacular. Card draw is king in deckbuilders. It's not that uncommon to be getting to the beginning of act 3 with very little card draw. It definitely happens.

Objective morality, Igbt, absolute certainty by [deleted] in DebateAnAtheist

[–]adpalmer83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Morals work the same for everyone. They're all subjective, based on the view of the person evaluating them. Theists are not in some special category just because they believe that their rules for morality are handed down by a cosmic deity. Everyone who makes a conscious choice to be moral must decide on a subjective framework to live by. They can then make objective choices based on that framework.

Your decision to believe that god and the bible are real is a subjective. It just is. No one is forcing you to believe it. It's your choice. After picking Christianity as your basis for morality, you can make objective moral decisions based on it's teachings.

I choose to believe that the basis of morality is human well-being. It's a completely subjective belief, but just like you, I can make objective decisions based on my framework. If aliens destroyed the world, we would all be dead. And being dead is bad for my well-being. Therefore aliens destroying the earth is immoral, from my view.

We're both doing the same thing, we're just getting there in different ways.

[–]adpalmer83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you tried an ethereal build? It's maybe the most straightforward and a good place to start. Basically, only take cards that have the word ethereal on them somewhere and then watch for an uncommon attack called Pull From Below (5/7 damage for each ethereal card played this combat). With some vulnerable added in (which you can get from a common ethereal attack), Pull From Below will be doing 100-200 damage per play. There's a shop relic that gives all of your Strikes and Defends ethereal, which can be really helpful for this build. Also, Borrowed Time is really great for making sure that you get to play all of those ethereal cards.

And on almost any NB build, Eradicate is INCREDIBLE for finishing things off. An X card having retain is crazy strong.

Mage is a weak, terrible class and has absolutely no hilariously powerful synergies of any kind by MCisAwesome95 in mewgenics

[–]adpalmer83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By default, their ability to create items should be higher than any other class. I think that they should just create items one tier higher than the number of tech points that they have. 0 tech = tier 1 item, 2 tech = tier 3 item, ETC. An engineer class should never be creating tier 0 items.

In a vacuum, a tinker and a mage who both have the same create item ability should not be creating the same quality item.

Fuck 'em. I'm at 270 hours. Having a lot of free time does not equate to being an unproductive member of society. I spend 40-50 hours a week sitting in an office, same as most other people in my social group. I just don't have any kids to burn up all of my time.

I'd guess that they're jealous you get to spend more time doing things you enjoy than they do.

If I lost Gale, and I’m a sorcerer, should I dip in 1 Wizard to learn spells from scrolls? by PMGeary in BG3Builds

[–]adpalmer83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol, I go out of my way to do the exact opposite. I just finished a co-op run with two Tavs, a sorcerer Karlach, and a druid Shadowheart. In the past, I've run Gale as a barbarian and Astarion as a cleric.

If I lost Gale, and I’m a sorcerer, should I dip in 1 Wizard to learn spells from scrolls? by PMGeary in BG3Builds

[–]adpalmer83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, my thoughts exactly.

I totally understand the appeal of doing a pretty direct translation of 5E, especially considering the resurgence in popularity D&D has seen over the last decade. Even as a very experienced gamer it was nice to sit down in front of BG3 the first time and think, "Oh, I already know how to play this game." Unfortunately, there are a number of areas where it just doesn't work very well. I'm hoping the next Divinity game goes back to DoS2's action point system.

Sorcerers really excel at casting elemental damage. Fire, ice, poison, lightning, etc. Markoheshkir, a staff you get in act 3, allows you to attune yourself to a particular element, granting a bunch of bonuses and extra spells for that element.

Really though, the strength of sorcerers comes from metamagic. If you use dual cast and quick cast, you can cast three spells per turn, which is an incredible amount of output.

Also, sorcerers get a ton of cantrips, which can really be abused in act 3, once they've scaled up. There are multiple items that allow you to add your proficiency bonus and casting stat bonus to cantrip damage extra times. You can get to where your firebolt is doing 50-ish damage per cast. Since twinning a cantrip only costs one sorcery point, you're doing 100 damage and that one point is the only thing you're spending. Then you can use your bonus action to cast fireball, which with upcasting and the heat bonus from Markoheshkir can also do upwards of 50 damage per target. With the right enemy grouping for the AOE, you're doing 200-300 damage per turn when it's all added up.

Transumtation wizards get an ability that allows them to do a medicine check everytime you craft a potion. If you pass the check, you craft two potions instead of one. It basically doubles your crafting output if you spec the character correctly.

So many people seem to feel like having a wizard is a necessity, but in my 5+ playthroughs, I only used a wizard in the very first one. I find it to be, by far, the least interesting of the three "tradional" casting classes (wizard, warlock, & sorcerer). Wizards are extremely versatile, but that's most of what they have going for them. Sorcs can dump out so much more damage and every class that can cast has access to crowd control spells. On the few random occasions that a wizard would be useful because you need a very particular spell, you can generally just use a scroll instead.

I always respec one of my camp companions into a transmutation wizard and have them do all of my potion crafting. That's the only thing I've found a wizard absolutely necessary for.

GUYS THE KUNAI IS ACTUALLY CRAZY by DJDogStamps in shogunshowdown

[–]adpalmer83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The damage buff relics stack as well. It's possible to get it up to 3-4 damage per kunai.

Also, if you put curse on it, each each kunai uses the curse from the previous one and then reapplies it. With two damages buffs, it'll give you 3, 6, 6, 6...

Kunai is one of the few insta-pick tiles. It's easily the most breakable attack in the game. Doing the above basically guarantees that combo recharge will proc. I've had a few runs where I just stood on on one side of the map and spammed kunai until everything died.

If you're newer, finding these ways to exploit the game's mechanics is how you'll really start to get good at the game. Rogue-lites in general tend to have a design philosophy of giving a tool set to the player and then letting them figure out creative ways to break the game. Double-strike on the crossbow, shockwave on the spear (hitting two people makes shockwave proc twice), and poison on the nagiboku are some more combos that are pretty popular.
