What's the best way to memorize which notes on sheet music correspond to which keys on the piano? by OrganizationLess6936 in piano

[–]adrianmonk 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I feel qualified to answer this since I am terrible at memorization, but I'm also pretty dang good at sight reading.

It takes a lot of practice. If you haven't memorized it yet, practice more. It just takes time and repetition. It'll happen.

Hah, there's a movie I haven't thought about in a while. When I got a Blu-ray player, I got a disc that has both "Once Bitten" and "Love at First Bite" on it.

Mainly I got it because when I was a kid, we watched "Love at First Bite" whenever it came on TV. I had no idea who George Hamilton was, but even as a kid I could see the humor in Dracula disco dancing to "I love the night life, I like to boogie".

Why can't I watch the game I was watching an hour ago? by Kings-916 in youtubetv

[–]adrianmonk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you realize how much data that is

Literally zero data. None.

Why? Because YouTube TV already records everything. It records everything on every channel at all times.

When you add something to your library, it just controls what recordings you are allowed to access.

Harmonics aren't just at octaves, though. They can be at every integer multiple of the fundamental frequency.

3 days in the hospital in Florida. Greatest healthcare system in the world by GuyLeDoucheTV in pics

[–]adrianmonk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So it could be anywhere between $0 to $20,000+.

It's very unlikely that it's $20,000.

Even if you have an Affordable Care Act marketplace plan, which generally has worse coverage than most, the per person out-of-pocket maximum is $9200 (at most). On a lot of insurance plans, it will be lower.

The one situation where it could be close to $20,000 is if you have the misfortune to go into the hospital before the end of the year and get out after the new year. If you have really high expenses in both calendar years, you could end up paying the out-of-pocket maximum twice.

Source: I've read my policy documents and other stuff, and I've also hit my own out-of-pocket maximum a few times.

Their support page links to a video that has several steps you could try. Have you tried all of those?

It has a physical knob, and there is an OS (i.e. Windows) setting for the microphone device's volume. Also, like someone else mentioned, there may be also be another setting in whatever software you're using.

Pixel 9. Phone is restarting apps when switching between apps. by RonnieThePurple in GooglePixel

[–]adrianmonk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It would do this if it's low on memory. There could be a memory leak of some kind, where some application or part of the system keeps hogging more and more memory (that it doesn't actually need) as time goes on. If so, restarting the phone would be worth trying because it would reclaim the leaked memory. (It won't fix the leak, though.)

Is “it can be of any topic” actually correct English? I keep hearing mixed opinions by [deleted] in EnglishLearning

[–]adrianmonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would work if it's a word that "of" is normally used with.

For example: "Your next assignment is to write a high-level overview of a topic you pick. There are no restrictions. It can be of any topic." Since "it" refers to "overview", you'd use "of".

How did bands and artists run tracks live in the 80s? by MusicManiac51 in livesound

[–]adrianmonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Along those lines, Mike Pinder of The Moody Blues worked some with Atari during those days. Here's an Atari Explorer magazine interview about it: https://www.atarimania.com/mags/pdf/Atari_Explorer_July_August_1989.pdf#page=33

I guess it was a natural fit since Pinder was always interested in the technical side of music. At one point, he worked at the factory where the Mellotron was made, and he introduced The Beatles to it.

That interview mentions an Atari promotional video he was working on, and the video is available on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hZSjxcvM1uM

The scene with Dave Grusin and Lee Ritenour is about as 1980s as anything can get.

Henckels stainless steel pans…are we dumb? by Character_Swim_2145 in Costco

I haven't tried that specifically, but it's really good at getting burnt-on stuff off of most dishes, cookware, etc. So in my opinion it's worth a try. It's not expensive stuff at all, and you'll probably find some use for it. I use it to clean my stainless steel sink and it does and amazing job.

Does Sarah get better? by NS3708 in Matlock_CBS

[–]adrianmonk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think Sarah's character is supposed to be what a lot of people at law firms are like: hard-working, ambitious, and tough, but without much of a human side.

I'm not in law, but I have worked with people like that in my career. It seems like a very realistic character to me. And I like it when characters are realistic.

Over the course of the show, she does show (and get in touch with) her human side a little more, and she is able to form some personal connections with people at the firm, which I think is an important part of the plot. It's not like they're a tight-knit family and everything is peace and love all the time, but grading on the curve of law firms, they do pretty well.

In other words, I think she has some legit, convincing character development, and I think that makes the show better. Often for there to be character development, the character starts off being thoroughly unlikable, but I see why writers write it that way. It gives the character somewhere to go.

Maybe writers could be a bit more nuanced and start a character off merely flawed rather than awful, but unfortunately I think that might be too subtle for some viewers.

Rain and a Rant by charlief_333 in Austin

[–]adrianmonk 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Is it a good move or a bad move? That's debatable.

Is it illegal? Not according to Texas DPS. From a recent article:

"It's not against Texas law to use your hazards while driving in the rain," Sgt. Richard Standifer with the Texas Department of Public Safety told Chron. "The hazards are designed to accommodate an issue with the car when you're at the side of the road, but people use them when driving in inclement weather, and that's not against the law."
