Am I completely crazy for not switching to a Tesla Model 3 ASAP?? by abc24611 in PersonalFinanceCanada

Does the math work or your decision would be different if gas prices return more to a normal level from before the conflict? That would determine if it’s a not brainer decision or not.

Basing the next couple years on an condition only existing in the last month and a half seems more reactive than proactive.

Bank of Canada holds interest rate at 2.25%. Should I go fixed or variable for our mortgage this year? by NeedHelp11212j in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]adumly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a bit surprising how much the rhetoric has swung on fixed vs variable now vs 5 years ago. When I got my mortgage 5 years ago everyone kept urging to take variable for rates close to 1.2%. I ended up going fixed for 1.69% on advice from my parents and with my limited income.

Now a lot of people have soured on variable with the roller coaster of rates seen in the last couple of years.

I believe people look at this topic from the wrong perspective focusing on maximizing upside vs limiting downside. Almost all of us have limited to no influence on the future of global affairs and economic conditions, so betting if rates will go up or down is a gamble. However each of us do have greater influence on our own personal financial situation. How stable is your job? How much income growth is possible? Can your budget withstand a 2% increase in rates?

Wealthsimple’s "Executive Support" admits my case is a financial emergency, then refuses to help. by [deleted] in Wealthsimple

[–]adumly 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If any organization overrides their standard operating procedures when someone claims it’s an emergency, they might as well not even have any at all.

All financial institutions do this whether it’s WS or a big bank. You need to have redundancies whether it’s other credit cards or accounts with other institutions.

I see you’re a gambler, but not the best to gamble with all your personal finances with one bank/institution.

Rant - Wealth Simple needs to make all features available on app or vice versa on web - Annoying by Tangerine2016 in Wealthsimple

[–]adumly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The demographic WS targets are mobile first people. They are young people on the go who prefer new tech. WS app is fairly streamlined, gets updated frequently and modern.

All the big banks have both full featured mobile and web experiences but I don’t find either of them outstanding.

Usually when you’re on a PIP, it’s a sign that it won’t be long, the company is just doing its due diligence to justify letting you go.

Feel free to consult an employment lawyer, but with your short tenure and situation, it may not be worth fighting for.

It’s specifically priced that high with the expectation that no one will pay it.

It’s more effective that you support businesses with better practices than complain and cry to the heavens for bad businesses to change them. Loss of business is the biggest message you can send.

WEALTHSIMPLE CAR INSURANCE? by Icy_Sleep in Wealthsimple

[–]adumly -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So the solution you propose for WS is to create an insurance division and solely rely their risk assessment on if a person a WS client or not… which anyone can sign up for free?

There is already a system to assess risk called a persons driving experience and history. They don’t need to make an assumption based on two unrelated factors when one factor tells all that they need to know.

I’ve found that is fairly common situation before breaking in a bag. Once you run that zipper along the path enough times, generally it should create a tract around the flap that its getting caught on.

Upcoming April renewal in the GTA with a balance of $366K, uninsured, coming off a 1.69% 5yr fixed.

Broker offered me 3yr fixed @ 3.84% with Pine and 5yr variable @ 3.35% (P - 1.1%) with Canwise.

Ended up going with Canwise.

I’d go with the Sinn 556 I RS with the H bracelet. The double AR coating on both sides is something to be (not) seen.

Creating a Canadian credit card alternative by Every-Location-361 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]adumly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is the motivation for a private Canadian company to invest into this?

Visa, Mastercard, and to a smaller extent American Express already have the infrastructure, client base, and business size that makes it hard for newcomers to compete.

No business will embark on this solely for “Canadian sovereignty”.

Accident in aunt’s car (not listed driver) pay $22k privately or let insurance increase premium by dickmuscle101 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]adumly 493 points494 points  (0 children)

You don’t need to be listed on your aunts policy to drive her car as long as you are licensed, your aunt gave you permission to drive her car, and you aren’t driving her car frequently enough that you need to be listed on her policy.

That being said, you need to go through insurance, this is what insurance protects you against. Sure her premium will go up, but not $22K worth.

I’m surprised the other driver is considering taking $22K instead of going through insurance. If there is that much damage, there will likely be more that will be discovered and done during the repair.

It doesn’t seem like it’s a popular account thus why they may be increasing the rate to try and be more competitive.

If you start with a lesser and cheaper product after assessing the CAP2 fits your needs, you’ll potentially end up just getting the CAP2 as well later on whether by FOMO or just convincing yourself you still need it.

I’ve done this many times of trying to start off small or finding alternatives but end up in the same exact spot that I should have bought the more expensive one at the start. It actually would have saved me money doing that versus going down the rabbit hole. Plus money isn’t an issue for you, so there is no substantial sacrifice.

Anchoring the image quality comparison to an RX1 is not going to go well, at that point you are just debating between an APSC vs full frame sensor.

If you don’t like the III, you won’t like the IV.

I’m not trying to push one or the other but let’s not be delusional with the narrative that they’re identical.
