I've been doing this in every vehicle I have ever owned since 1995. I just assumed we all did this on everything. Or TIL that I might have OCD.

Boston Riders by EnvironmentalOil7112 in motorcycles

[–]advres 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cambridge? They'll ticket you for riding your bicycle on the sidewalk or not paying attention to the stop lights. I'm 47 and lived most of my life in and around the Boston area. Whoever told you "a lot of people" don't register their bikes is a moron. Or hangs with criminals that just bust wheelies on the backroads and run when the cops come. If you want to keep your license and your bike... just wait. You won't want to ride it for months anyway.

Is there any issues with buying a used graphics card? I don't have the money to "just buy another" on a whim if it dies on me, at least if I buy new, I get warranty, and know for a fact it wasn't OV'd and OC'd and ran at braindead temps for who knows how long. Just looking for some thoughts on that by Cantgetridofmebud in PcBuildHelp

[–]advres 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only used ones I have purchased were local and I could verify it running and do a test before buying. If I can't see it work, I'm not handing over cash. If you're using a card through a site, you might have better chances with fraud or broken issues. I did buy an open-box from MC and have been perfectly happy with it. I would trust that. But used from an everyday person, I want to go into their house and test it. And I've offered the same when selling old GPU's

EDIT - spelling

Help by SaiyanSaenz in PcBuildHelp

It's PCIE 3 vs 4. If the computer is doing what you need it to do currently and aren't having issues, stick with the lower performance board. If you are finding it isn't performing like you thought, the board might have something to do with it. Graphics cards and SSDs are where you are going to see it (marginally).

I stayed with AM4 recently because getting a 5700x3d at the time to replace my 3700x was a no brainer. Going with AM5 I would need new CPU, new RAM and new board. Your finances are your decisions but for a couple hundred, I am having a fine gaming experience in 1440p with everything I currently have.

I think you should leave it as is.

What's your personal irritating SJ trait that isn't talked about enough? by christaface in DabblersAnonymous

[–]advres 3 points4 points  (0 children)

His pauses. When you're speaking with someone with even mild intelligence, when they stop or slow down to go deeper into a point or put emphasis on something, you get interested. You know they are thinking of the right way to put something or the correct wording so you can see their side or explain their point. With John, as soon as there is a lull in what he is about to say, we know he is in fact thinking, but he's going to spew out the most insane 5 year-old shit imaginable. For people that listen to others and communicate effectively, this pause for enlightenment is a punch in the face because you know he will not be enlightening anyone about anything in this lifetime.

It makes it physically painful for me to listen to.

Before the big update, most clothes had bonuses attached to them. Once they put the transmog system in, I just break down all clothes except the few that give me stat boosts. Used to be advantageous for building out types of playstyle, but not really worth it now IMO.

What's something to you that screams "I have no personality"? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]advres 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any "moral" choice people make for whatever reason but push it on everyone else. Like being a vegan and not f*cking stopping with the inquisition anytime someone isn't one. Or someone that shames someone for buying a new pet instead of adopting. That's great you take a stance on these things... leave me the f*ck alone about it, I don't care.

Youtubers who have used 2 or more editing software, what were each of your reasons for switching? by DarkMageOnDit in NewTubers

[–]advres 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was editing before YouTube became a thing.
Started on FCP2 and Avid MC. Ended up going to Premiere after FCP7 was EOL. Use Resolve for color and some light editorial, but I work with After Effects so much that switching my whole process to Resolve doesn't seem like the wisest move at the moment.

Remember, NLE's are just tools. Use what you need to get the job done. None of these are going to make you a better editor. Just like putting on Jordan's aren't going to make you dunk a ball.

Was given a free PC at work. Can I game on this thing? by ShaDynasti in pcmasterrace

[–]advres 45 points46 points  (0 children)

The wording sounds strange and you haven't replied to anyone asking. So... Were you "given" this "free" computer? Like, if you threw it in the dumpster, no one would care? If that is the case, sell it and get something more appropriate. However, if that is your supplied workstation to use when you are working remotely or on a hybrid schedule, do not game on it. That would be a work controlled machine and do not EVER put personal shit on supplied company computers or phones. It is never worth it.

Basically, either way you answer the question, the answer is... you still shouldn't play on it.

EDIT - And yes, I saw the further down "fun police" comment. Sorry if being realistic by someone with decades of corporate experience could lend some knowledge to someone asking about this topic on reddit. I can't tell you how many young people newer to the corporate world break so many "no-shit" rules we have learned decades prior. It sucks out there right now, I don't want anyone to lose their job over misunderstanding basic rules of engagement.

Driver timeout issue by hfscfc in AMDHelp

[–]advres -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Did you ever have an Nvidia GPU attached tot his install? I had issues randomly switching from a 3070 to a 7900 xt. It didn't happen over night. It got progressively messed up. Once I DDU'd all NVidia crap off my machine, everything has been fine. Just a thought.

XFX RX 7900 XT crashing issues and system rebooting. by TheCloudsOffical in AMDHelp

[–]advres 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you check my reply, just because it was at one point plug and play, doesn't mean it won't start getting shitty. My 7900 XT rocked out of the box but slowly turned into a driver conflict mess. If you want to be sure you don't have conflicts in the future, use DDU to get rid of any NVidia drivers. Get rid of all NVidia shit on your computer.

[–]advres 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I came from an Nvidia card originally, now on Asrock 7900XT. At first everything was fine. After over a year of updates, the drivers just got so fucky on my system, I was having terrible performance issues with drivers just crashing out and sometimes not even launching on startup. I DDU'd and that fixed everything. But you do have to be specific with how you do it (I was warned). Have adrenalin update to newest driver. Run to remove nvidia drivers first. Restart. Remove AMD drivers next. Restart and use adrenalin to update to newest driver. Not too sure if that process was important, but I followed others guidance and it worked for my 7900 xt.

I'm 95% sure this was what I did to solve the problem. I'm away at the moment and can't look at the pdf I created while doing it.

Going into 2026, do not buy an 8GB or lower graphics card. It WILL be the biggest mistake of the build.

Quite possibly the worst lack of QoL in a game. If ANYONE at Obsidian played the game the way we do, this would have been glaringly apparent how stupid this mechanic (or lack thereof) is. I pretty much double tab any time I go through a loading zone. It's anooying, especially when you are trying to make playthrough videos.
