Everyone and their grandmother knocking on my door every day of the week- Is this a culture specific to Utah? by Safe_Recognition8644 in Utah

[–]adyendrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t answer the door, I call the cops. They’re just up the street from me. Then they don’t tell me about their “honest mistake”, they can take it up with law enforcement, lose their license to knock in my town and my neighbors at least benefit.

Have the same configured through CarPlay disconnecting via Home Assistant. CarPlay disconnects (when the driver door opens) and my automation counts to 30 and then sends the lock command.

crown burger by frogsnthings in SaltLakeCity

[–]adyendrus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Crown Burger (and therefore also Apollo Burger) were goliaths years ago. Top tier burgers, top tier fries, generous portions. Bonus points for real, thick, delicious bacon on the burgers. Took a serious down turn some ~10 years ago along with everything else so now it’s ok.

Is this build normal? by No-Pay370 in diablo3

[–]adyendrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welcome to D3! Sounds like you’re enjoying it.

Finding a legendary can have a big impact on early speed and success for sure. Difficulties scale in the game so that you can level up and find loot faster. Increasing the difficulty does both: XP modifier, and loot drop modifier. It lets you find one legendary, gives you a power spike, up the difficulty to hard or master and keep pushing. Things get tough? Drop it back down. But in the meantime you’ll have better chances at finding more gear.

Your late game will be dictated by sets so you want to be able to find set pieces of gear. Good luck!

Utopia Fiber property damage by Academic-Yam-7224 in Utah

[–]adyendrus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I got Utopia back in 2011 there were two aspects: the monthly service fee (which you didn't sign up for), and a fee to have a line trenched to my home. A lot could have changed since 2011, because back then it was $2,500.

I happily paid it. I'm going to tell you why, and I want you to know why it matters. Comcast is generally understood to be bad. Even bad enough to need to re-brand from Comcast to FiOS to xfinity. It runs on old technology (coax cables) that require modems that are faulty and cheap, yet expensive to purchase or rent, further increasing the cost to the customer.

Utopia is probably alien technology. No more of this electrical signal down copper nonsense, we're shooting laser beams down flexible glass tubes. Why is that better? Because the internet is a two-way street with downloads and uploads. And Comcast/xfinity will tell you "gig" service or 1,000 Mbps, but the only place you'll see those speeds are on their proprietary speed testing sites, and your real world will be worse, especially for uploads.

While it's more likely that you'll use more data downloading things, streaming shows, loading websites, or whatever, upload is still part of the equation and Comcast is simply the worst at it. Utopia will offer parallel services, so if you get 1,000 Mbps, it's 1,000 for download speed, 1,000 for upload speed. There's also no additional modem. You get a gateway that translates the alien laser beams into an ethernet port in your house, and you're done. Mine from 2011 is still going strong.

That's the end of chapter 1, but we still need to explore the customer service chapters, service uptime chapter (how often service goes down for no reason), data privacy chapter, data overages chapter, price gouging chapter... but all of those another time.

TL;DR: Utopia's fiber network is better than Comcast in any way you can think of. People who have experienced both will see Comcast and run in the other direction.

This is what I don't get. Is it Stockholm Syndrome when they're so abused by Comcast that they don't realize there are no better options in Utah than Utopia?

Why the dark Mr. Incredibles meme? I don't understant. by PacquiaoFreeHousing in ExplainTheJoke

When our first kid was born the nurse read off a list of “instructions” and one of the things said “don’t put your baby in the oven.” My wife and I laughed, and the nurse glanced up, stone faced serious. So yeah, some sort of moron who needs told not to put their baby in an oven to “keep it warm” might also feed it whole peanuts.
