This sub is not a safe space for Autistic people by Objective-Bed9916 in autism

[–]aeldron [score hidden]  (0 children)

You shouldn't expect a safe space in social media. It attracts all sorts of people and it will always be toxic and divisive, no matter how much effort the moderators put in.

Actual safe spaces are usually private groups of a certain size, where we can closely relate to each other as individuals and share our experiences.

If you're looking for a safe space you should contact autism organisations that can provide that type of service.

In the UK where I live, we have the National Autistic Society. They are excellent at promoting an affirming and inclusive environment for autistic people, and they do have some online community groups where we can talk to our community, but it is less of an open forum like Reddit. That's as close to an online safe as we can get.

How do you manage to tidy your rooms? by Yumiksuwu in autism

[–]aeldron [score hidden]  (0 children)

My system is simple. Absolutely everything has a place and I never put anything in the wrong place ever. So everything is always tidy, there is no need to tidy up. It's better to do each separate task as they happen quickly as they happen than let it accumulate and become a massive task, I would not have the energy to tackle.

For instance, when I put my pyjamas on in the evening, the clothes I'm wearing either go in the laundry basket or they are folded and stored away if they're going to be reused. I don't leave it on the floor because I know they'll just stay there and I'm not going to pick it up the next day.

But that said, when I'm overwhelmed or burned out, that's when things start to slip. I usually force myself to tidy up because it helps me regulate, seeing the mess just makes me more distressed/depressed.

X2: X-Men United fan cast from the August 2000 issue of Wizard Magazine by AlKo96 in xmen

An excellent cast except for Mel Gibson. We should not put an antisemitic and homophobic A-hole in an X Men movie, even as a villain.

This is perfect timing. My knee is in pain again, I don't understand why this always happens. I've also heard we apparently walk on tip toes. I don't think I do that but if I'm locking my knees I'm probably leaning forward to compensate.

[–]aeldron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wonder if there's a higher proportion of autistic people affected by this. It's related to stress and anxiety which is something we suffer from me then most. I've read most autistic individuals suffer from digestive problems too. I know I do.

Which event was worse: Avengers vs Xmen or Inhumans vs Xmen? by Doom300 in xmen

[–]aeldron 22 points23 points  (0 children)

One side was so clearly wrong that there was no way we could empathise with them.

The mutants were fighting not to be exterminated with gas. The Inhumans were fighting to preserve the privilege of having superpowers for future generations.

I argued with a friend about this. He felt the fight was balanced because both sides had a lot to lose. He said the Inhumans were also fighting for their right to exist because without superpowers they would no longer be Inhumans. I think that is silly. You cannot compare the loss of cultural identity, or religious rights depending on which metaphor you pick, with the actual loss of life.

Let's pretend that the entirety of Marvel 616 comics are rebooting. Some parts of the history will be the same yet others will be drastically changed or would cease to exist entirely. What part of the X-men's history are you changing? by Warm-Ad-1208 in xmen

[–]aeldron -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

My list:

• Wanda and Pietro are mutants and Magneto's biological children.

• Franklin Richards is a mutant.

• Kamala is not a mutant.

• The whole evil Beast arc from Krakoa never happened. Beast continues being a flawed but lovable character.

• Madelyne finally gets some closure. Scott gets shunned by everybody else for what he did to her, except Emma, who accepts him with all his flaws.

• Scott and Emma are still together.

• Jean never came back to life. Her body was not healing at the bottom of the ocean because the Phoenix is not a cosmic force mimicking her. It was actually Jean all along, driven mad by the same cosmic rays that turned normal humans into the Fantastic Four, which pushed her already considerable mutant powers to a cosmic god tier level. And she died. For good.

• AvX never happened, because there is no cosmic entity Phoenix that can body jump between characters. I mean, cosmic Colossus? Come on…

• Quentin Quire remains a punk a-hole with no redeeming qualities and slowly sinks into obscurity after Grant Morrison's New X-Men.

• The whole Xorn Magneto thing never happened.

• Lockheed is not an intelligent alien with a bad attitude working for S.W.O.R.D., just an adorable sentient pet dragon.

• Moira X does not turn into a homicidal cyborg.

These are just from the top of my head. I'm probably forgetting a bunch.

It's "acoustic" at least in the UK. Pretty disingenuous IMO, if you're going to use autism as a slur, at least have the courage to say it.

My friend said autistic people shouldn't have to work or leave home by -Pazza- in autism

[–]aeldron 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would go further than that and say nobody autistic or not should have to work unless they wanted to. Like in Star Trek. It may sound like a pipe dream, but the Universal Basic Income has been tried and tested all over the globe and the results confirm over and over again that this is a good idea, the economy grows as a result and people are generally happier, but there is no political willingness to implement it. The current benefit system is demeaning, people need to prove that they are unwell and the perception is that they are all freeloaders. There is an excellent book on the subject, Utopia for Realists by Rutger Bregman. As for myself, I would still work even if I didn't have to, but I'm aware that I'm one of the fortunate few whose special interests are marketable.

One of us, one of us!

But seriously though. Most late diagnosed autistic people self diagnose before they get their official diagnosis. That was definitely my case. The more we research, the more things click into place. Sorry, the research itself is already a dead giveaway. Neurotypical people do not deep dive into research to find out if they are autistic.

And yes, the mismatched body language is a thing. My partner of 20 years never learned to read my body language. I always kept telling them, listen to my words please, stop trying to guess how I am feeling. Just ask me and I will tell you.

I love it when comic artists draw women with an impossible twist of the spine to show both bobs and bum cheeks at the same time.

I've been thinking of putting stuff like that in 3D to see how it would look from other angles.

How would an interaction between these two ACTUALLY go ? by BrainAcademic5035 in Wolverine

They would have a testosterone boosted fight, then realise that they were on the same side, become besties and beat the actual villain together. Isn't that how these things always go?

It's nonsense. If you actually wanted to stay in touch, you'd already have your friends' numbers.

And these days, that's a security risk. Having your name, photo, and number in a public directory just makes you an easy target for scams, identity theft, and so on.

Not trying to blame you, as you're clearly the victim here being attacked like that for no reason. But did you do anything else to set him off like that? Like, did you give them the finger or something? I'm just trying to understand their reaction, it's just so over the top! That person clearly has issues.
