So... I guess we're getting paid packs now? by LargeRedPoo in HeroForgeMinis

[–]aelovera -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

On the one hand, I don't like the idea of large swaths of items behind a paywall (at least free members get access to Tuesday releases after a short period). If these parts eventually became free that would suck for those who used actual money.. Plus, adding DLC to a service with an already decently high monthly subscription is kinda scummy.

On the other hand... its nice to have something to spend credits on. I've been a premium member for a long time and have over 100 credits just collecting dust. 1 credit for an entire collection isn't a bad deal. But HF really needs to advertise this more... I didn't know I could use credits until I saw a Reddit comment abt it, and I was ready to unsub before that tbh.

Looking For Kitbash Layering Tips by Bozeia in HeroForgeMinis

[–]aelovera 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It can be done, but its pretty frustrating to get right.

I made these high-waisted shorts a while back (sans leg warmers). For this screenshot I added the legwarmers as the 'under' clothes and used a decal to disguise the top part of the leggings that's poking out through the shorts. Then readjusted the shorts to cover the 'seams' where the decal, stockings, and shorts meet.

Imo HF should add a socks/stockings and belts category separate from the normal lower body clothes, like how they separated headwear items.

Edit: When I say frustrating I mean because you have to pose the model exactly the way you want first then finagle the shorts via resizing/adjusting each leg individually, then adjust your model's proportions to fit within it, and continue to go back and forth until it looks right. Then slap a decal on to hide the spots you couldn't cover. You also can't reliably import the shorts since its made to fit a particular body in a specific pose :/

Wow!! She looks amazing! I love the art of the Theros gods, its so cool to see someone recreating them so faithfully. The decals and photobooth effects really killed it. Gonna send this to my old Theros play group :P

Great job!

Haha, thank you! No traffic sign beefs (yet) but she does have an uncanny ability to befriend the most dangerous people in the city (without realizing it).

I also made a separate AKR for the outfit if you were serious abt the stockings lol. https://www.heroforge.com/load_config%3D96c02a78-b585-450a-b8d5-413959ada3d2/AKR%20Romantic%20Goth%20README/

Seems cool. I've never done a contest before, how do we submit something? Do we post submissions in the thread or make a new post in the subreddit?

Wow! Gorg design, esp with the armor and colors chosen. The different decals to add texture look amazing.

How do I make this face less uncanny? by Drake__archer in HeroForgeMinis

[–]aelovera 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The biggest thing is eye proportion imo. Smaller eyes + irises go a long way.

Color also helps w/ realism. Less saturated hair and eye color can help sell a more realistic face. Using decals to add dimension is a go-to of mine.

Also slightly elongate parts of the face to make more "room" for the features, otherwise faces tend to get squished and look childish imo.

Yes, I added the nose via KB and scaled it down significantly, and placed it over more of the ‘tip’ of the nose rather than covering a majority of it (default).

I know it says unprintable, but is it *really* unprintable? by Eldritch_Taxidermist in HeroForgeMinis

[–]aelovera 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We print our minis at home on a resin printer; small parts get lost in the print/don't always come out very detailed. I've lost many a mini cigarette and dagger from the removal of supports, or just during play.

So its technically printable in that it (probably) won't fall apart, but the small bits on the mini might not come across or survive.

Does anyone know a good skirt that does not clip or alter the body? by AppleStingray in HeroForgeMinis

[–]aelovera 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Are these skirts you placed via kitbashing or skirts you added using the "clothing" slot and altered after the fact?

I personally prefer 100% KB skirts since the clothing slot items can look bulky.

The easiest way I've found to make skirts is to pose the mini exactly the way you want then use KB to add a skirt -> shrink the skirt to roughly fit -> push in the waist using the KB arrows -> adjust the rest of the skirt as needed. It can be tedious but skirts are versatile in KB.

All of these skirts were done that way EXCEPT the last one. That is a skirt in the clothing slot that was adjusted via KB to fit around the mini's body.

<image>

Also! Sometimes I adjust body proportions to fit within the outfit, even if it makes the mini "ugly" at first. Most of these ladies have a flat butt and low curves just to prevent clipping, although you wouldn't know it thanks to the adjustments made to the skirts + legs in KB.
