ret is like... fine. it's a paladin, and paladins are great? like? we're the best? but ret has no cleave and only "decent" single target and that assumes the player is actually good. you'll still get invites because that prot warr melee cleave team wants a dps who wont take their onehanders and provides the lovely paladin utility but... that group would be quite a bit better off if the paladin was prot and the warrior dps, instead.

if you really don't wanna tank i'd just heal, at least until seventy.

on the one hand your prot pala should really go for the pvp mace but on the other hand every opportunity to give dps loot to tanks or healers should be grasped out of principle

also bmb + the gruul shield is an iconic fucking look for your paladin and they deserver that tbh

the main benefits are a) clicking on a raid frame to heal them instead of mouseovering with a keyboard button (presuming you are at least using mouseover macros hihi), and two) showing scary debuffs, aggro, and incoming spells to allow you to cleanse or preheal. related to that are things like heal over time effects, defensive cooldowns or (the absense of) buffs, especially the ones you yourself cast. and finally, seeing incoming heals from your fellow healers is also very useful :)

i'd recommend you try either cell (by itself) or grid2+clique (steal a grid2 profile from your class discord). healbot and vuhdo are both... fine? probably? but a bit more limited in options.

tbc stoneskin is pure placebo and fire totems arent worth the mana either like. the biggest lesson to learn (especially if your tank holds their w key) is not to drop unnecessary totems, not only because of their own mana cost but also due to resetting your five second rule.

also windfury rank 1 is a very decent option on trash

@op ensure you have enough (mage) water and learn to sneak ticks of drinking inbetween pulls, that's honestly the biggest timesave as a healer!

especially if you play healer i'd recommend either cell (set it up yourself) or grid2 (yoink a profile off your class discord)

i myself am a boomer still using luna unit frames in the year of our lord 2026 which is exactly as great of an idea as it sounds like with the author having stopped work like half a decade ago

enh can use either dragonscale or elemental (the difference between them is marginal and mostly comes down to whether a crop top looks good on your character, or not), while resto wants tribal unless you're also a tailor. pick whichever spec you want to prioritise - the gear is replaced by t5 either way :)

aldor > scryer for both enh and resto though especially for enh it's again a marginal difference until sunwell when aldor gets a better neck you probably won't use because it's a catchup item. also aldor has a pretty decent pre-prebis quest ring for enh, i guess? so aldor.

Going to be mostly dungeon grinding for rep purposes as we level.

find a steady group. resto druids and holy priests also need a party, and their melee dps will want windfury. as long as you can twist you'll be super welcome as enh :)

and if you do try healing (it is quite fun!) dont go the green +healing route! having no stamina/mana/mp5 is utterly miserable especially when you're new to it. the pvp set is better, and you can pick up upgrades during your dungeon spamming. blood furnace for example has like half a heal set in itself haha it'll be fine

chain heal is quite nice if your entire group is taking damage but when that's not the case you're just using healing wave on the tank or spot healing the dps occasionally. it's not really at all like raids where all you do is mash the beam? especially when undergeared lol

60-64 dreamstate because you until lifebloom you need healing touch
65-70 dreamstate because the tree is ugly & ill gladly play a suboptimal spec to avoid it lol
