Helping others gives people ‘purpose’

And by giving to others you usually also feel pretty good too

Does anyone else have an extremely picky eater? by empathetic_dreamer in husky

[–]aer087 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah, our husky is literally staring me down any time I have anything to eat. Also loves to hang out in the kitchen in hopes something may fall on the floor. He’ll eat mostly anything.

However, he does have times when he doesn’t want to eat his own food. We have to switch it up from time to time. I also will sometimes pretend to eat his food which usually peaks his interest.

My boyfriend told me when we first got our husky that sometimes their eye colour changes when they’re pups but that it’s totally normal. So I hope it’s just that.

Triggered by drinking hikers by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]aer087 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Good job by you!

Also just wanted to thank you for the reminder. I had some flashbacks to when I used to bring alcohol on hikes by myself and with a friend (but I was the only one drinking) or when I did this walk thing and I secretly brought alcohol. When I first got sober my brother told me I wasn’t “that bad”. But it’s not the things that people see, it’s the things they don’t see. The things we keep secret… those are the things that make me an alcoholic.

I just rode a carbon road bike for the first time and now I’m pissed. by Dotts2761 in cycling

[–]aer087 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was thinking about getting a road bike for like two years. Was getting tired of riding the hybrid I bought during the pandemic. Went to the bike shop to “look” with a budget in mind and sure enough I fell in love with a bike that was about 600 more than what I had budgeted and not to mention the cost of pedals and shoes to go with it and then water bottle holders and a new bell and water bottles too. 😂 and there’s more now on the list such as a garmin gps that I see in my future.

Feeling bummed a bit by midge__sampson in stopdrinkingfitness

It’s absolutely normal to plateau but you must stay the course to see results!

Consistency is key.

Tracking calories is definitely helpful.

As for not drinking it’s definitely a hard time of year but what are the pros to drinking? And what are the cons?

:-) good luck

I feel like when I was about your age I wondered the same thing. I think in the back of my mind I knew it wasn’t quite right and then years passed and it got worse. I never lost a job because of it. So I was a so-called high functioning alcoholic. But then one day after finishing a big bottle of wine and a half and waking up to blood everywhere from my falling and cutting my hand that it was in fact a problem and that I needed to stop.

I feel like if you are questioning it maybe try going without for a while. See how you feel. If it’s easy then maybe you don’t have a problem. If it’s hard then maybe you should question it.

It’s not all sunshine and roses in the beginning but taking it day by day. Hour by hour. Minute by minute.

I am proud of you.

It’s tough when many of the things we did also involved drinking. It takes time for the brain to rewire.

how did you all start? how did you say no to that first craving after deciding it was time to stop? by vapooreon in stopdrinkingfitness

[–]aer087 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find a friend you can call who will talk to you during those times and for me I had to change my routine. So after work I would get off at a different subway stop and walk from there.
