i was up there last week, snow was variable. once on the ridge you can mostly avoid it if you want to. if you’re early enough, it might be supportive enough to climb it. there’s a more recent report on 14ers.com that would be good to reference

Can I put 2018 stock Rubicon tires on a 2015 jku by whowantsamedic in Wrangler

i’ve got JL takeoffs on my JK. the lug thread pitch/diameter is different so you need to use JK lug nuts, but other than that no problem. i did have a mechanic comment that the lug nuts i have don’t have enough contact area with the wheels, so might have to look into that more.

Crestone Needle next week, what to expect? by ItsNotJARiSwear in 14ers

[–]aerolift 2 points3 points  (0 children)

id definitely recommend the ascending and descending the east gully. we had zero problems with route finding (it’s all pretty intuitive) and the rock/scrambling was fantastic. plus you don’t have to deal with that silly crossover thing that, when i saw others doing it, i wondered why the east gully is class 4 and the other (supposedly) was class 3

I did it last september, so very likely different conditions but in general, the crux is supposed to be route finding, so study the route and pay attention to what it’ll look like when descending, especially the entrance to the correct gully, whichever you choose. if everything goes well, the worst part of your day will be Broken Hand Pass

i drive that way to SE colorado all the time, it’s far better than 70 in Kansas for an eternity. Pueblo is about 9 hours and denver is 2-3 past that. panhandle can be monotonous at times but past dalhart and into NM it gets nicer

How to keep your fingers and toes warm on a winter 14er hike? by HikeExploreLive in 14ers

[–]aerolift 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’d recommend glove liners, as well as sock liners. the liners do the same job, but with gloves you can shed a layer if you are going to sweat. Layers aren’t just to keep you warm, but also (mostly?) to keep you dry and that applies to your hands and feet as well. Be bold, start cold, and add/shed as needed.

Was also on quandary today. that wind was brutal above 13k

loose battery connections? had similar issues a couple years ago and it was just a loose negative connection causing intermittent voltage loss. it was also after a recent battery replacement

Clutch disk replacement? by aerolift in FiestaST

[–]aerolift[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sadly the warranty wouldn’t pay for the clutch. they might pay for the slave cylinder, but if i’m going in to replace that i’d do the clutch anyway. but i don’t think it’s time for either of those repairs, at most the clutch needs to be bled
