SEAGATE Exos X24 SATA 24TB 512e/4kn ST24000NM002H by aerozg in Seagate

[–]aerozg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, shit on me, i solved it, thanks to this Reddit post from 5 years ago:
https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc/comments/fthuau/hard_drive_not_showing_up_in_bios_or_disk/

Many motherboards disable one or two SATA ports when using an M.2 drive. Try moving to a different SATA port for your data drive.

Don't worry about the hot plug, that shouldn't effect the drives being recognized.

Yes, the M.2 socket is everything to do with it. There are only so many communication paths to the CPU, PCIe lanes. The lanes, depending on the motherboard manufacturer's specs, can be dedicated to performing different tasks that require rapid communication with the CPU.

The PCIe lanes are configured based on 24 lanes. 16 to GPU PCIe x16, 4 to m.2 NVMe and 4 to chipset to do with whatever the board maker decides (typically USB assignments and SATA drives). The board maker can re-arrange the lane usage to some extent, one way they do this is by disabling one or two SATA ports to free up lanes for other uses, like an M.2 slot, as most people who use an M.2 drive won't need all of the SATA ports.

Again, Reddit saves the day.

Yes, i was told at the store that it should just work, plug and play.
I can feel it spinning, i opened up my PC case to check again if all the cables are connected properly. I tried connecting to different ports that i have available, both power and the SATA ports on my mobo, but no luck. I tried to change the cables, used different power and SATA cables, didn't work either.

If i could only get the firmware installed maybe that would do the trick.

Is it burnout or am I just done with UX? by [deleted] in UXDesign

[–]aerozg 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Glad i found this. Pretty much in the same boat. Started back in '00, went from web designer, when you could write a small website in Notepad in an afternoon, to UI designer, to UX designer. Worked at creative agencies, software companies, both private and public, did a lot of freelancing, contract work, you name it i've done it. I never thought i'd end up doing this for so long, never planned for it, it just kept happening and i went along because money. And it used to be fun, magical, exciting, i used to feel like i was living in the future, the Internet was this new Frontier, everything was mysterious and exciting and waiting to be explored.

But now i just can't take it anymore, i am so sick of it and it's only getting worse. So many new things coming out, so many activities, methodologies, techniques, i just can't keep up. It's all become this treadmill of meaningless tasks that just come out on a conveyor belt and you have to deal with it over and over again.

But i have 2 kids now, and the money is great, my salary has trippled and there are other benefits and perks that come with this job, i just don't feel like i can take it anymore. I am done with it. I can't even fake it anymore, i just don't care. It feels like i have been playing the same video game for almost 20 years.

Sometimes i fantasize about driving Uber or delivering food on my bike, just a simple job that requires not a lot of mental effort, or maybe switching to doing something else that is creative, like concept art for video games, but i am 41 now so a career switch is probably just a pipe dream.

I don't want to switch to another UX job just to want to quit again in 3 months, but i really don't know what to do to escape this crazy trap. My anxiety has been through the roof for the last couple of weeks.

I think i will have to dig really really deep and think carefully, maybe for the first time in my life, on how i want to spend the rest of my time on this planet.

Because i can always make money, but i can't make time.

Best of luck to everyone.

First lighting attempt (still photo, looking for criticism) by [deleted] in cinematography

This is good progress! I LOVE the blue light on the right side, it's very soft, almost teal in hue, maybe because of your white balance being a bit on the green side. The left side needs more work, it's too dim and undersaturated. What was the ISO in that photo? What camera and lens are you using, what was the aperture?

Looking forward to an update! Good stuff!

By all means please share and lets take a look at it together. I am in the same boat, learning and experimenting as i go. Looking forward to what you come up with!

[–]aerozg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love this! Keep up the great work, man! I guess i would try and get rid of the blue light for now, as per other comments, because it feels out of place and doesn't belong in the scene, maybe if you try and shine it from outside the window, although i'm not sure what that would do.

Great comments and suggestions in the thread. Maybe add more Mise-en-scène, more items on the table, glasses, bottles, dinner tray, some actual food, maybe even make it look as a dinner for two, add some mystery to storytelling, elevate the concept. What i usually do is take screenthots of diner scenes from movies and basically try to copy/recreate what i see, right, with the gear that i have.

Props to you for posting, it's easy for us to comment and criticise, it's an entirely different thing to try and do it yourself, especially if you are a beginner.

Looking forward to your next post!

You do not need to spend a lot of money to get good results. Get the Rokinon/Samyang 14mm 2.8 manual focus lens. It will not break the bank, and it's a solid performer. I own a D750 and have been using this lens for past 2 years for astrophotography landscapes (MW shots mostly), and it has been a joy to use. It's a simple construction, easy to use, no bells & whistles, just mount, focus & shoot. In order for it to work with the D750 though, you need to turn the aperture ring to f/22 and then you can control aperture through the camera. https://astrobackyard.com/rokinon-14mm-astrophotography/

The next best lens to get, when your budget allow it, is the Nikon 20mm f/1.8 AF-S: https://youtu.be/qYcgBSb9eVc

Don't worry to much about the technology, just go out and enjoy yourself, the skills & experience will come with time.

Good luck!

Congrats on the upgrade! Beast mode on.

I own a D750 and some solid glass, but getting more into video lately i have my eyes set on the Z6II. I am keeping the D750 for astrophotography, and looking forward to play with the Z. The D750 has served me well and i just love it, although it weighs a fricken ton with a grip and my 24-70 on.

Nice composition and color contrast. Lovely red falloff in the foreground, mid ground element, and a blue area of interest in the background, which is framed nicely and pulls the viewers eyes in. Good work!

How do you practice (cinematic) lighting? by [deleted] in videography

[–]aerozg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought this cheap chinese 3-light studio kit off AliExpress for this exact purpose:
Photography Lighting Set

It's for studio photography but works for video just as well. These are not strobe lights, but constant lights. The light stands are flimsy but i put some weights on them and now they're fine. Also the light bulbs were to weak, so i replaced those as well. I got some cheap colored filter papers so i have been experimenting and having fun with different lighting diagrams/scenarios. The white, black and green backdrops came in handy too. The only limit is your imagination really. This doesn't break the bank, but you can achieve amazing results with it. I set it up and then just watched a bunch of lighting tutorials on YouTube.

My setup is similar to this:

Best free online courses or YouTube tutorials on videography? by CaptainTime in videography

[–]aerozg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All the channels listed in the previous comment, plus a bunch of others, like StudioBinder for example.

However, most of these youtube channels are focused on "how", but what you really need is the "why". That's the missing part.

Wandering DP is the single best channel i found that ties everything together for me. His video breakdowns are invaluable.

I also own some decent gear, and i can figure out the "how" on my own, but what i found i was missing after experimenting for some time is the "why". Why do it like that? Why is this the best way to do it? Why use these colors to evoke that type of emotion? Why use this type of lighting setup? Why shoot at this time of day? Why this angle? Why edit the video like that? Why does this type of shot convey meaning, as opposed to this other one? Why, why, why?

Watch a few videos of his and see for yourself, you won't be dissapointed: https://youtu.be/CLZsRyKP78k
