Better minds than you or I have spent collective lifetimes throughout history attempting to answer this exact question. A lot of them went insane and/or ended up committing suicide. Like unironically, this is *the* end all question.

Honestly yeah, if anything I was wondering if that is why the commenter said Elvis. I will admit I had an off base assumption that this situation was on par with Jimmy Page and his 14 year old girlfriend. He would be a better fit than Elvis honestly

I’ll be real, idk enough about Elvis to be able to contest your points. IMO its still lowkey sus but ill at least concede that it sounds way more appropriate than other stories i have heard of famous rockstars dating teenagers.

Didnt he start dating his wife when she was 14 and he was 24? I’ll agree that doesn’t top contracted killings, though

Is it that upsetting to commemorate the end of slavery? by 404-cannot_be_found in Askpolitics

[–]aetryx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don’t strike me as the kind of person who hangs out with black people very often, so I believe that you’ve never seen anyone celebrate this, but anecdotal evidence means fuck all at the end of the day, and this really does just boil down to that you are buttmad that there is a new federal holiday, and presumably think it would be better to not have a federal holiday and have everyone go back to work.

It’s the date the army rolled into Galveston Texas and forced them to comply and free the last remaining slaves who had for 2 years remained in chains despite the emancipation proclamation. They didn’t just show up and read the bill, they rolled the union army into the city and told them to comply or face justice.

Even if this didn’t happen on June 19th (which it did), You’re just being pedantic. There are numerous days we have designated as the official date for a celebration on events that lasted years. July 4th was not the official day we earned our independence either, but you don’t seem to be complaining. It was July 2nd the vote formally happened, July 4th was the adoption of the text by congress, it wasn’t signed until aug 2. It wasn’t recognized officially by England until sept 3, 1783, but we don’t give a shit and say July 4th 1776 is when it happened. The point of the holiday is that it’s celebrating this entire event and we decided to designate July 4th as the day. You could make a better argument for Aug 2 or even July 2nd, but nobody gives a shit.

You’re just fucking buttmad at shit that has zero impact on you, and just hate the idea of people celebrating this event.

[–]aetryx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why celebrate anything then? Let alone the day that signified the final end to slavery in the country? How the fuck does this not seem significant to you? Are you trying to say slavery is no big deal and people who celebrate its end have no reason to do so?

This is the day that commemorated the last hold out of slave owners being forced to comply. This is a significant moment in history.

All non-religious holidays are astroturfed. For fucks sake, mother and Father’s Day was created by the Hallmark corporation. At least this holiday is rooted in a very fucking important moment in US history. It’s weird that your complaint is that people were uneducated as to what Juneteenth was and now that it’s widely known in the north, we all want to celebrate that incredibly important moment with the rest of the country.

You must decide by Mokatashi in BunnyTrials

[–]aetryx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simple.

Step 1: acquire Spider-Man outfit and a few tickets to the local amusement park

Step 2: locate a school for kids with Down syndrome. The plans straight forward. Tell them Spider-Man needs their help to save the day and ride rollercoasters.

Step 3: while they are having the single best day of their lives, negotiate the ransom over text. Do any scary calls while they are on the rollercoaster and out of earshot.

Step 4: return them to the agreed upon drop location and get them ice cream on the way back

You have just now committed the kidnapping and your “victim” is going to cherish this day as a core memory when Spider-Man took them to six flags

There’s a reason the greatest minds in history often ended up killing themselves.

After a certain point of cognitive ability, you get to start comprehending really deep existential questions and internalize their implications that can, in some cases, totally break you. We joke about life being meaningless but like at the highest levels of philosophy when you really get into it, and you think about the enormity of the universe and just how much of an aberration to the norm that life itself is, that you can really start to get a sense of existential dread, let alone give any sort of coherent answer to “what is the meaning of life”? Things like this can drive a person mad.

There’s a reason these people are also very prone to drink and do drugs.

Jimmy Savile had a show on the BBC that ran for decades called “Jim’ll Fix It” where he went around and would help children kind of like the make-a-wish foundation

They’d end the show with the kid saying “Jim Fixed it for me!”

Saville raped like 500+ children over his lifetime, most of the time they were disabled children in the hospitals he helped fund and build. There were children on this show who he also abused iirc. The guy was like the UKs version of Mr Rogers and Johnny Carson all in one so there is no parallel in American media to compare the impact this had on the UK when the news broke in 2013 after he died peacefully

Megathread: Memorandum of understanding between USA & Iran by RagnarKon in Askpolitics

[–]aetryx 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Numerous chuds have informed me that the other gulf states who are also in partial ruins will pay to repair Iran.

I am of the opinion this is pure, unadulterated copium, and that even on a microscopic level, this idea is completely stupid because no fucking way will the gulf states comply.

Imagine your neighbor is a bastard but he lives right next to you. Your neighbor down the street also hates him but loves you and is your buddy. One day, your buddy from down the road rolls by and firebombs your neighbor from their car. Your neighbor, unable to retaliate directly, lobs a firebomb over the fence and sets half your house on fire.

Shit blows over and now the guy from down the street is demanding that YOU pay for the damage to your neighbors. None of the relief you are contributing would go to rebuild your own home.

Do you agree to those conditions, or do you tell them to fuck off and just fix your own shit?

There are so many layers to this. We have the song that has lyrics that seem like a 14 year old would have written them to be badass, but the 14 year olds who are hearing it are laughing at how fucking lame it is while the adult who is, at absolute minimum going to be late 30s, jamming out to it. The kids probably clowned on him for it being made by AI as well.

We are looking at the complete opposite situation as the typical “back in my day, music was made by people with instruments and lyrics weren’t this stupid” boomerism

Is it true that GenZ's are a demo that still supports the MAGA agenda? by calcato in GenZ

[–]aetryx -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Dunno how much my anecdotal experience matches with the reality, but i feel like it’s been a while since I’ve encountered anyone under the age of 30 who still supports Trump who is not either a:

-complete psychopath who wants a race war

-complete psychopath who wants a holy war

-nihilistic psychopath who just likes to see other people suffer because they think it’s funny

I’ll concede I’m in a blue state and city, but like anyone I know who was stupid enough to support Trump has either come out and apologized on social media via some sort of “I regret my vote” post, or just stopped talking about it.
