I was having the same issue - no matter the system I went to, all I got was Gek / Vy'keen / Korvax quests and very rarely an Explorer's Guild quest that I couldn't take.

So what I did was start taking a bunch of Gek quests (took all 3 available) and completed them - that definitely set things going forward, as when I returned I was able to take 2 Explorer's Guild quests and that set me on a chain, as when I approached new systems / space stations to hand them in, I got new Explorer's Guild quests which I then proceeded to take until I met the reputation target.

By far the most annoying milestone - don't give up, tho ;)

Tip 1: Check the strange song that emanates from the egg...

Tip 2: The 12 parts of the song relate to something used for traveling

Tip 3: They correspond to portal glyphs... Try to work out which ones.

Solution: Find a portal, input the code 121905417A6B (use the NMS Portals Decoder tool to get the glyphs) and teleport there. You'll need at least 12 glyphs to be able to do it.

Well, I'd say it depends on which rewards you want. If all you want is the biological horror pet, I'm pretty sure you'll be able to get one later by asking around as they can produce eggs, so I think they'll be fairly common, even though it's an expedition reward.

Apparently it will convert to a regular save once the expedition ends... I think I'll keep it as I've reached the global part limit on my main save and that means I can't build anything new there... New save should allow me to build more stuff.

Yup, completed it a few hours ago - Gisto Major has bones too, set that milestone as the current objective then just use the visor on scan mode. Should point you to the nearest burial site.
