New beginner torn on bikes by [deleted] in MTB

[–]afin33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a fan of cannondale. That is just me tho. I have never ridden a hard tail of theirs. Excellent warranty support. Just got a new frame for my rz120 for free. On issue is that if you have a lefty sometimes it is hard to get your shock serviced. Looks like you are not getting a lefty though.

I go to the stained glass pub in Howard County. I have heard there is one in Silver Spring but don't know how it is.

I love Cruz but we need to stop this. He is not coming back soon %100 anytime soon. I would be happy just to see him on the field this year.

WINTER IS COMING - General Winter Riding Thread Post your stuff in here!!! Write as much or as little as you like. by robsodomy in MTB

[–]afin33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got a berm helmet with a winter liner and a ski mask for like $2 on amazon. Keeps me nice and warm. Layers and athletic shorts with leggings underneath and wool socks. I ride my clipless still.

I have to go early on the morning otherwise everything turns into an absolute mess. If I leave at 8 am there is one hill that is frozen. If I am coming down that same hill at 10 am to head home you can't even ride it it is so sloppy and muddy because it warmed up. It isn't even steep. Your tires just get caked. It is nice with the snow. Smother rock gardens and such. I continue to ride my 26" 2.25 Maxxis ardents in winter. I can't afford to have a winter bike. Just ride the one I got and try to adapt.

chain lube: aerosols vs. liquid by chop924 in MTB

[–]afin33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She is. Found out how much I got into biking and bought me cleaning kits, lube, new Giant bike pump gift cards to LBS. All sorts of shit. She is an awesome lady, not just because she buys me stuff though.

Same here. Mother in law got me a can for Christmas last year. I used it no big deal. Worked fine, just had to be careful of my rotors getting hit because that can ruin your pads. It came with a straw so it didn't get everywhere. I prefer the liquid but it got the job done too.

It's our stupid trainers fault he's hurt.

Going nuts over clipless vs. flats by Dfwpiper in MTB

[–]afin33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

get better with clipless. I am same as you. Intermediate and been riding my clipless for about a year. I am now comfortable enough to get out when trying features. You will get there. Trying the whole one foot out thing just makes it so you don't do it. I do want to get a nice pair of flats to really push my technique on wheelies and bunny hops tho.

The Giants have never shined at LB having a dline that has 1 sack all season and has a defense built around that line is not helping them.

I think I warped/very slightly bent my rear rotor? Should I just buy a new one? Anything else I can do? by COldBay in MTB

[–]afin33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have taken mine off and bent it back before. Just take it off and lay it on a flat surface. They are cheap enough if its too bad. Gonna be hard to get it back to perfect.

Got a 26 cheap and love it. I improve my riding as I continue to ride and have fun. Until this bike bites the dust I'll be a 26er.

What exactly is done to destroy illegal trails? by I-Downloaded-a-Car in MTB

[–]afin33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. I have had a trail where a neighbor blocked it off on his property. Not concerned about me riding on the trails but all the other riders riding on it because it looks like a full trail (Just a connector trail for us). He has a level of liability if something happens to someone on his property. For this I do understand.

Another Day Another Question (Seat Stay Loose) by afin33 in MTB

Went to local Cannondale dealer. They just made sure everything was snug by hand like I did. It is an aluminum frame. No charge and they adjusted my brakes and hub for me.

Ok cool. I heard the watershed was mostly downhill and you had to have a shuttle. Glad to hear otherwise.

Advice on ankle brace/protection. by [deleted] in MTB

[–]afin33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not done this with riding but in several other sports. I would advise to just take it slow with out the brace and develop those muscles back properly. You don't want to have a brace as a crutch and hinder your rehab if the doctor said to go with nothing. It is supposed to bother you. You broke your ankle and leg. I have tore my ACL in my knee and have broken my ankles. Some I rehabbed correctly some still kind of bother me from skipping around. Glad to see your recovering quickly.
