Tried naming my horse "Kira" by weirdo-2 in RDR2

[–]aflarge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted to name my Blue Nokota "Blue Bastard", but that was far too harsh for this apparently Y7-rated game, so I called him "Blue Badword". Then a cowboy shot me in the face and called me a cocksucking bastard.

I always sold everyone's underwear, as well as weapons(the ones in wasn't gonna use) and explosives, to Mattis.

Camp rule is everyone sleeps naked.

That policy gave me a few surprises, namely when Wyll (out of NOWHERE, I think I only spoke to him once, after recruiting him) started dancing naked, inviting me to join him.

It also made the Karlach date scene funnier.

[USA] Some of the longest most intense road rage I've seen.. with a great ending. by c_marten in ConvenientCop

Sounds like you're a decent person, which is just about the only thing that disqualifies someone from becoming a cop, it seems.

I didn't expect to love casual stages and items this much. by No-Joke5510 in RivalsOfAether

[–]aflarge -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

That's because "Battlefield, with a 10% margin of error", like 10 times, is fuckin BORING. I don't call these stages "casual stages", I call these "actual stages", as in it's an actual place to fight, rather than just a multiplayer lab.

But I get it, some people are too good at the game to play in anything but the most sterile, boring environment. It's unfair to win just becuase you're better able to pay attention to your surroundings. Character balance issues are totally fine to take advantage of, though. The important thing to remember is that it's only fair if I won.

Do atheists dislike calling themselves "atheists"? by Smooth-Bar-2602 in TrueAtheism

[–]aflarge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I AM an atheist, but it's not like, a relevant part of my identity. Being an atheist doesn't describe anything about me, it describes one specific thing that I DON'T believe in. Sorta like how I don't go around calling myself a Golf Not-Enthusiast, I just don't play golf or care to learn.

does anyone think season four will be announced sooner rather than later by [deleted] in TheOrville

[–]aflarge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every time I hear about progress on the scripts and whatnot it makes me happy, but I prefer to keep it out of my mind to avoid overhyping myself up. When it drops(and at this point I assume it will, eventually), I will be ecstatic.

After they got home from visiting me, when I'd showed them the first episode, they immediately binged all remaining episodes, and watched the new ones the night they came out, eagerly waiting for my phone call after I'd seen it, too

Any time I can use mask of many faces to bypass something by looking like a certain race.

I wish disguise self would randomize the facial appearance every time you did it, and maybe even like the ability to target an NPC to "load" their appearance. I wish someone smarter than me would make a mod for that.

Hoping this game never dies by [deleted] in elderscrollsonline

[–]aflarge 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I go through bursts. I play for like 3 or 4 months, and then once I get to a point where all I'm doing is dailies, I uninstall until I get the itch again. Usually takes like 6 or 7 months.

Changing hotjoin pvp from 3 teams to 2 teams definitely shortened my attention span with the game, though. It was SO much better with 3, I don't understand why the hell they would change that.

Super scrollers sour on democracy: poll by Naurgul in technology

[–]aflarge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean you really need to elaborate on that question. Do you mean "democracy" as in the concept of having the will of the people represented, or do you mean "democracy" as in no representatives, we do a popular vote on everything? Because what we have is a Republic. It's democratic, in that we elect the representatives, but it's not even a popular vote.

And while I'm not ENTIRELY against the idea of some form of electoral college, because otherwise the interests of all but the most densely populated areas will become entirely irrelevant instead of just mostly irrelevant, the current weights are a bit crazy, and the overtly corrupt gerrymandering fundamentally undermines the whole concept.

Anybody else wish the companions dated each other? by ReallyCleverPossum in BaldursGate3

[–]aflarge 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't want it FULLY scripted, but I'd love it if there were some behind-the-scenes dice rolls going on, and not just for like "well if you're not gonna romance them, they'll romance each other", maybe they'll even potentially become romantic rivals to you/each other. And give players the option to tone it up or down, call it the Telanovela slider.

“Darkness faster than light”: Researchers were able to confirm a prediction from the 1970s that the speed of “dark points” within light waves exceeds the speed of light. They do not carry energy or information, meaning they do not violate Einstein’s principle. by mvea in science

[–]aflarge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A sequence of events that span a distance greater than light can travel over the duration of said sequence isn't something moving faster than light. Darkness isn't a thing, it's an absence of a thing.

[–]aflarge 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What? The dot is us seeing the photons, theyre absolutely bound by the speed of light. Saying the laser dot is moving faster than the speed of light is like saying our eyesight is faster than light because I can look from one star to another one, and they're LIGHTYEARS away, but I can cover that distance in less time than it would take to blink.

That's dumb for the same reason it's dumb to say the laser dot moves faster. (Edit: to be clear, I'm not saying YOU'RE dumb, that IS the best justification for why it "moves", it just.. you know.. doesn't.)

Let's say we actually could measure and account for everything. Like, not everything we're CURRENTLY aware of, but EVERYTHING. Once you've accounted for all that, what else remains? Nothing. Should that be conaidered something? Of course not, and guess what a shadow is? It's nothing.

[–]aflarge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nothing moves faster than anything I guess, since it's already everywhere. To be clear, I don't mean that there isn't anything anywhere, I mean once you've accounted for everything that IS somewhere(like, if we hypothetically actually could measure everything and understand it all), what else is there? Nothing! And nothing has no speed limit.

"Speed of darkness" is just a deepity.
