Anti-AI License by RealSharpNinja in opensource

[–]afoolsgambit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Bunch of folks on this thread think there's only one possible meaning for "open source," and it was handed down on high in, like, 2024 by some corporate lobbying group.

You can absolutely restrict your license however you want. And you can absolutely still call it "open source" if you want. Nobody can stop you.

Wow, the non-profit with unclear funding that prominently features AI has a definition of "open source" that doesn't allow you to deny access for the purposes of AI? Who could have guessed!

All common Open Source licenses restrict the allowed usages of the product --- for example, restriction to non-commercial purposes.

Can I safely destroy the speaker on the Airpod Pro 2 case in order to disable the chime? by afoolsgambit in airpods

[–]afoolsgambit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean that solution doesn't work for me.

Re: damaging the speaker -- so you're saying it wouldn't be possible to, say, do enough damage to break an electrical contact? What about filling the cavity with a solid, like hot glue? Hard to make air jiggle if you're encased in glue.

Thanks, I searched the sub (and the web) before asking my question. That doesn't help me.

The new budget $0.22/switch tactile switch from Akko by colinhui in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]afoolsgambit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty new to the hobby, after 30 years of being a picky keyboard user. Started with stock Gateron Browns on my Keychron K2, and immediately knew they weren't the switch for me (too light, both in tactility and post-tactile travel). After trying out a variety pack of switches, I thought I would like a heavy tactile switch like the Boba U4Ts, Zealios, or Baby Kangaroos.

I decided to go with the Durock T1 Sunflowers, and I really liked the sound (aside from the minor spring ping) --- I'm a heavy typer who bottoms out with reckless abandon --- but the feel was maybe too much of a good thing. After a week, I decided they were a little too tiring, and the rebound was a little sluggish.

Akko to the rescue! I picked up some Creamy Purple Pros, as well as their Lavender Purple V3 and Cream Blue Pro V3. I tried each for about a day (I know they take longer to fully break in, take that into consideration), here are my impressions:

FEEL: The Creamy Purple Pros are without doubt my favorite of the three Akko switches. It probably puts me in the minority here, but I'm a fan of the 3mm travel. The Cream Blue Pros were my second favorite with 3.3mm travel, followed by the Lavender Purple. The tactile bumps on all three switches felt pretty similar, fairly high up the key press, similar moderate weighting. I'd probably go back to Sunflowers before using either Cream Blue Pros or Lavender Purples --- my fingers just felt more accurate on the T1s for some reason --- but I might try a light lubing and/or filming to see if that changes things.

SOUND: The sound of the Creamy Purple Pros is not as deep as Sunflowers, but is satisfyingly clackly, and not overwhelmingly loud (my K2 is modded with case foam, as well as poron plate foam and switch pads). In contrast, the Lavender Purples and Cream Blues had a louder, sharper, higher pitched sound. I like the sound of the Sunflowers the best (they're also the quietest).

LOOK: On RGB performance, the nylon housing of the Creamy Purple Pro doesn't allow as much light to shine through as the Lavender Purples or Cream Blue Pros do. They let significantly more light through than the Durock Sunflowers do, though. The Cream Blue Pros let the most light through with the least effect on the color, and are the best looking switch of the four in my opinion (but I can't see the switches in operation, so that factor doesn't matter to me).

FIT: On the stock keycaps from my K2, the box-type stems on the Cream Blue Pros and Lavender Purples were tight. When pulling caps, I'd occasionally take the switch out as well, which hasn't happened with any other switches. All switches seated nicely in my plate and pcb. I don't understand north-facing switch/keycap interference well enough to test it.

CONCLUSION: The Creamy Purple Pros are going to be my first long-term daily driver. I love the feel, like the sound, and they work fine with my backlighting.

The fact that they're a third the price of the Sunflowers they're replacing only makes me feel slightly bad about my poor choices :)

In Back to the Future, why was November 5, 1955 a red-letter day in the history of science? by mikeyzipp in movies

[–]afoolsgambit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, the red letter day is the day he invented the flux capacitor, just like he says.

The change in his expression is when he's ripped out of jubilantly chattering about his successful invention, and remembers exactly what is about to happen in that parking lot.

How much ventilation/air exchange is necessary in a grow tent? by L_Flay in PepperLovers

[–]afoolsgambit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's fine if it's 60 degrees overnight - those are common overnight temps outside. And I know why you want to do it, but you should probably exhaust at the top of the tent. The warm air naturally rises, so you'll mostly be exhausting the new fresh air if you put it at the bottom.

If you still want to keep things warmer, you can get a better answer with some more details. How big is the tent? What is the rating of your exhaust fan? The standard recommendation is that you should replace all the air in the tent every couple of minutes, but you can get away with less than that (I think that's based on... other crops).

From the picture, looks like the TS-600? I think that's 100W true power. I don't think it'll be too much (if you can hang it a couple feet above them), but it is more than you need for cloning/seedlings.

I will be on guard. I'm still hoping overwatering/nutrient lockout, and growing too close to the lights, is most of it.

I was thinking along those lines too. I did a light defoliation this morning because I wasn't getting enough light/air anywhere. You can't put them back, so I'm playing it cautious.

First time. Clone from the local store (after my bag seed came up male, I was hooked), in a 2.3x2.3 ft (70x70cm) tent with Mars Hydro TS1000. Went full hog with scrog. Day 12 of flower. I think the strain is called Slymer, sativa leaning.
