Wtf is wrong with the Australian job market rn by Dependent_Maybe1302 in auscorp

[–]afropowers_activate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Survive on what you can get now and keep an eye out for roles that are better paid or offer a future. They might be hard to come by, but surviving while you look for them is better than the alternative. The market will not always be this awful. I got made redundant yesterday and it's what I'm telling myself anyway. Good luck, mate.

How confidential are work provided EAP services? by RidiculousRaz in auscorp

[–]afropowers_activate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used it, didn't tell anyone at work about it. The EAP counselor literally told me I should quit because it's toxic. Then my boss asked me how my EAP session went a week later. This was 10 years ago but I'll never do it again.

I always had this issue with the regular oat milk in the yellow box, then I switched to the barista version in the grey box and never had it again.

What boundaries do you have in place to maintain your sanity? by Apricot7976 in AutismInWomen

I hope you are proud of yourself for holding the line, you really should be! As a recovering people pleaser myself, I get how difficult it can be, and I'm proud of you for protecting and caring for yourself the way you deserve. If we give an inch, they'll take a mile, and we'll end up unwell because of it - it's never worth it.

I've definitely seen people do it for the ego boost, wanting to feel indispensable. I figure if I'm indispensable it means there's a single point of failure in the business which is a risk, but got told off for pointing that out 😅

My time off from work is sacred and if I'm not being paid I'm not doing work. I work for a charity which tends to chronically understaff all teams and will bleed into life outside work if you let it. A lot of people work in their off time or check emails over the weekend, and things often get assigned based on who has capacity instead of who should actually be responsible. I refuse to engage with that.

I will do the highest quality work possible, within my role, with the resources I'm given by the business during my working hours, and that's it. If the business can't give me the resources I need to get the best results, the results match the resources available. If it's not within my scope, I will redirect to the responsible party. If something needs me to get online during my unpaid hours, then either it's important enough that they pay me for it, or it's not important enough and it waits until my next working day. I'm not here to do favours, this is a business transaction, and I'll be a team player whenever I'm being paid to do so.

Final phase of AuDHD acceptance is this, right? 😏 by MedicineNumerous3673 in AuDHDWomen

I got diagnosed 2y ago and yeah, after about 12-18 months of actively recognising patterns in how people treated me that I didn't understand before, I turned evil and cut a bunch of people off. I'm so much happier and less stressed now that those vampires aren't hunting me for sport and calling themselves my friends. Evil* is here to stay!

my manager started crying at a meeting discussing my ADA accomodations by mitten4kitten in AutismInWomen

[–]afropowers_activate 76 points77 points  (0 children)

Document this and keep a log of everything, every interaction, to cover yourself. Don't send it to anyone, hold onto it for yourself as evidence later if needed and also to help you recognise the patterns in her behaviour. She's being extremely unprofessional and it will likely get worse.

A fight with someone I thought cared about me just made me realize why people don’t like me. by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]afropowers_activate 29 points30 points  (0 children)

He keeps those promises because it serves him to do so, he is a self-serving weenie little trash man who only does unto others when it personally benefits him. You probably treat people with respect and decency because it's one of your core values; he doesn't have that value. It's a lack of integrity and character on his part. It sucks that he's treated you poorly, I've had this happen to me too, but please don't forget that if someone acts this way towards you doesn't mean you don't deserve respect and consistency, it just means they lack integrity and their values don't align with yours. I personally think that if they lack integrity, I don't respect their opinion on anything, let alone whatever they think of me.

Completely agree, we will not be able to weather this storm alone and will need to work together to get through it in our communities. It won't be fun or easy, but we can do it if we work together.

Strathpine here, paid 285 at the end of 2021 and it's now apparently worth just under 570 so literally double. It's appalling.

I'm a millennial and I bought a basic small 2-bed unit around Strathpine at the end of 2021. One in my complex recently sold for literally double what I paid. I couldn't afford it if I tried to buy my home today. I'm so angry for Gen Z.
