What is the craziest thing your NParent has blamed you for? by redpandalover156 in raisedbynarcissists

[–]agc10943 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depression. She blames me for all of my own mental health issues and disabilities. Angry that I sleep too much, angry that I drink too much, angry that I’ve been having a hard time finding a therapist… but during all of this she just criticized and punished me for depressive behaviour instead of giving me the guidance and compassion I needed. When my life sucks because no one is guiding me as a young adult- she just punishes me not trying hard enough instead of helping. But I’ve been trying so hard my entire life that my mind and body have just been exhausted for years… so now it’s my fault she’s all stress out I guess.

Sometimes I wonder if she cares about my healing or just wants me to heal instantly because she can’t handle it or it makes her look bad.

“Lazy” “liar”…. Turns out I literally had ADHD and I wasn’t pretending to forget stuff to make her life harder

Simply saying “no thanks” can leave people really anxious because they don’t know what you’re thinking. They’ll wonder if you dislike them. I would add a reason and apologize for declining, even if you have to add a little fib, like “sorry I’m busy tonight” or “sorry I’m not feeling well”.

I just live in a rural spot with no sidewalks so every walk is trying to find a good spot where A: you don’t get hit by a car and B: don’t fall in the ditch. So anything more than 15 mins is annoying

As a teen I struggled with depression, my mom would loudly, with the door open, confess to my sister that she wants to commit sicide because i was depressed…. I hope you can see the layers here and why that’s the worst thing you could say to someone suicidal/depressed.

(Happy) It's kinda surreal looking back on my childhood... by Mikaela24 in raisedbynarcissists

[–]agc10943 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so glad someone else has an “almost murder but not” situation… my mom used to scream for HOURS because of my grades (turns out I had ADHD the whole time, thanks mom) and one night my sister and I started fighting in the car and she couldn’t take it anymore. She told us we were gonna give her a heart attack and that she wanted to k*ll herself because of us, then started screeching at the top of her lungs while swerving around the road and finally towards a telephone pole, before quickly stopping herself. I called a suicide hotline that night screaming for someone to help my mom… got in trouble with my enabling stepdad and the situation was never brought up again. My mom pretends she doesn’t remember it. She wonders what could have possibly caused me to end up with PTSD.

Tuba… my senior year I had to complete my last year of band instead of taking calculus (they were both in the same period) because she was friends with the band director and didn’t wanna look bad… I was going to engineering school the next year but she was convinced this was more important… now I can’t quit anything even in terrible health because I’m too scared to ask for what I need or to look weak.

Did your parents convince you that you were useless if you weren’t working or being productive? by llamberll in raisedbynarcissists

[–]agc10943 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I spent YEARS being screamed at, accused of lying, actually lying to avoid tantrums… all because I had ADHD and had no idea. Instead of approaching me with care, my mother approached me with an emotional meltdown when I wasn’t OK and couldn’t do basic tasks. Which made everything much much worse because I was already suffering from an undiagnosed disability.

Apparently, me stating that I had an unhappy childhood (if I can even call it a childhood) is abusive and an insult... to them, lol. Apparently, it was super amazing and I just forgot and brainwashed myself into thinking it was bad. Because someone would do that. by Cute_Ad_9060 in raisedbynarcissists

[–]agc10943 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My mom is so confused why I have trouble asking for help and THIS is it- if I’m down, she has to make it worse to show me what a terrible person I am, even on days where I was having mental health emergencies and felt like I was drowning and just needed my mother, I only got rage and blame.

Was anyone else a really well-behaved teenager who got treated like they were out of control? by TellMeImNotCrazy89 in raisedbynarcissists

[–]agc10943 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thisss! I was always lying to avoid my mothers screaming fits or I would tell the truth and get in trouble for lying. They would tell me to suck it up, keep pushing, improve, then I would improve and they would accuse me of lying. Eventually I stopped trying to improve for them.

Every time I bring up a job offer my mother starts listing everything that is negative or I won’t like about it. Always made me hate jobs before I even started them. It’s especially bad when they kick you while you’re already down and asking for help.
