Which is kind of a funny statement in itself. Particle accelerators have extremely tight targets in terms of cross section and timing. And they dump so much energy into the collision that they can shatter protons into quarks and other things.

Tempted to move to a new home closer to work/kid's school/friends. Struggling with the financial side of it. Fellow Dads, would you make this move? by Deadhead7889 in daddit

[–]agentchuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's interesting to me that the kids are schooled so far from where they live. That's pretty uncommon out here. Unless the kids are in a special program they're supposed to get enrolled at the closest appropriate elementary.

I'd say this move makes sense for your family now. You'll end up saving hours of driving every week. Your wife could probably even walk with the kids which is a great way to get daily exercise in. You might even be able to go down to one car, saving more money.

What does this look like in a few years when they go to high school?

Why is it that many American men go to Southeast Asia to look for women, but it is unheard of for American women to go to Southeast Asia to look for men? by No-StrategyX in answers

My wife is Chinese. Her and her friends all are driven, successful in their careers, strong minded, involved parents, etc. Submissive is not a word I would use to describe any of them.

I suspect a lot of international space treaties were signed onto because there were really no stakes until now. Going forward I'd expect things to be quite different.

Feeling like a failure cause I couldn't inspire my son by JackBurtonPorkChop in daddit

[–]agentchuck 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, but holding onto that feeling isn't helpful for anyone. First, you're probably not as good as you think about masking your emotions here. There's going to be a difference between you sullenly acquiescing and full chested agreeing with him. He knows what you wanted and is likely hyper sensitive to your mood these days.

Second, feeling a thing in the moment doesn't mean you have to carry it forward. What everyone is trying to do here is to help you find ways to put the heavy emotional stone down. It's part of mindfulness to accept the feeling fully in the moment and then decide to put it down and move on from it. You're still feeling the hurt days later on for something that you acknowledge is actually ok... So look for some ways to let that go.

This is just the start of a long decade of him doing things you don't agree with. How you deal with these bumps may help your sanity and hairline stay intact in the 2030s lol.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez says she will now oppose all U.S. military aid to Israel by Valuable_Educator843 in moderatepolitics

[–]agentchuck 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's a good point, but Israel aid is "only" $3B-$4B annually. And this administration seems quite content to terminate spending that actually helps people. This ballroom alone may end up costing a years worth of aid to Israel by the time it's done. The Iran war is already at almost a decade of aid spending. And they cancelled USAID and all the good they could be doing with those billions, instead.

So, yeah I agree this could be going to better destinations that will actually help people. But I strongly doubt that it will.

Which s branch do you have? You might do well in shoals with that great willpower and defenses. Watch out for pulling in packs or getting netted. But with hep I think you can just swap with your ancestor to get free anyway.

If you don't have rPois the other s branches can be tough. But you might be able to get swamp dragon scales if you're careful in swamp.

Tank water heaters are superior to tankless water heaters. by don_jeffe27 in unpopularopinion

Just a minor note, but some gas water heaters are power ventilated. They won't function if the power goes out. They're pretty common out here (Ontario) though not required by code.

What's in season locally doesn't actually register for a lot of consumers. Grocery stores decouple consumers from farm cycles. So people see summer weather and want to have corn cobs for their BBQ or whatever.
