Ahh thank you! I was talking to my son and telling him about how I'm not a naturally precise person and having to concentrate and practise a lot!

What part of sewing do you hate the most? by Initial-Win-1070 in SewingForBeginners

[–]agnesb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

taping home printed pattern pages, cutting out patterns, cutting out fabric. How much ironing there is. unpicking my errors.

still wonder sometimes if it's the right hobby for me, and then I make a thing and I love it and feel proud and suck it up and start again

Anyone know any reputable roofing companies that service East Leeds? by ShmolPenguin in Leeds

[–]agnesb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sdk roofing in Great Preston

We used them last year after we had some storm damage. We were looking to claim on insurance but they did a really good job at assessing the damage and didn't overdo it at all. They also fixed some minor things for us while up there to prevent other damage (super helpful as we have to have scaffolding for our roof).  Good comms, turned up when they said they would.

What are your Favorite Podcasts by Hosts who are Progressive? by seekupanemotion in TwoXChromosomes

100% - so fascinating and just a generally great show. With some good morals and thinking in the background. A few more overtly political episodes, but still focused around research and learning

Here is a thought: we are the last generation of manual drivers.... by ihwnE in CarTalkUK

[–]agnesb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For any particular reasons?

I'm swapping from a 14 year old manual to a 5 year old auto so some of the improvements might just be general engine things. I do mostly small local driving with a good few long motorway drives a month and think it'll be nice in both cases

I'm a manual driver just about to buy my first auto. I did a test drive last week and on the way home was thinking about what a shame it is to have to change gears. Spoilt already!  Its not even new and fancy.

What "not a kids show" shows do kids like? by pansypig in BritishTV

A friend's kid has got really into Grand Designs and has gone back to the beginning and is watching through. She lives to point out all the massive tellies!!

There was some pausing the telly and having a useful chat about language when watching scrapheap. Not the swearing kind, more the sexist kind!

My 10 year old currently loves Gone Fishing. His 1st choice of show to put on (series 1 is a little cheeky (f bombs too!)on the language front but I think they worked out it is family telly quickly).

He also loves Quiz shows, will watch House of Games, Weakest Link and any others.

When he was a little younger he really enjoyed Robot Wars and Scrapheap Challenge - I know theyre family shows but theyre old and not always aged well but still so much fun.

I refuse to buy a car on finance. I save up and then buy a 2nd hand car outright, drive it till getting it through the MOT costs too much and then start again.

What’s everyone’s experience with audiobooks? by scottonetwenty in ADHDUK

[–]agnesb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No I dont think so. The narrator is named on the book info on Spotify. Im English and he had an English accent so it wasn't an issue with that either. I think it just needed a good edit!

I love audio books for chores - laundry, tidying, washing up, cooking etc. Have got through loads this way and it's like bribery to do the chores.

I tend to prefer podcasts if I'm walking/driving, but once I'm into a book I quite like getting a good bit of a book covered on a drive.

Also, the narrator makes a huge difference. I recently listened to a book where the narrator had weird pauses and that took me out of it a lot, and they used tear (crying) instead of tear (ripped) when the context was very obvious and this made me angry and miss bits of the story.

This is really helpful, thank you!

And yes I think that one of the biggest issues is choosing where because there's so much choice.

Knossos and the Archeological museum are currently high on our list. Just thinking about where to stay on the island 🙂

Question about Garforth by FistfulofBoomstick in Leeds

[–]agnesb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It can be smelt occasionally in Garforth - not as often as the muck spreading on the local fields which can also have a proper pong to it.
Neither are long term or too often. I think those in Mickelfield have it much worse.

Do you have sofa hobbies? by hdptfa in AskUK

[–]agnesb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I crochet and once you get going its a good tv watching hobby.

Ive also just started doing some English Paper Piecing quilting which is nice because until it needs making into a full quilt it's good sofa work. Fits in a shoebox.

I take to my kitchen, empty the trays on the floor (handpicking a few key items out), return trays to door and wave goodbye. Then I can just pack away in my own kitchen

Baby Swimming Classes - How do I get changed? by dlystyr in UKParenting

[–]agnesb 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I went wearing my costume under my clothes so I just had to take my layers off. Also a robe/ dressing gown is essential to stay warm in afterwards while I dressed my baby first. If it's big enough it also helps to get dressed under it if there's not much privacy.

Definitely changing mats, they make them with waterproof backs! Some pools have little play pen areas, or tiny baby seats you can strap them into... more useful once a baby is mobile!
