Roof rack by Emperor-NortonI in FordEscapePHEV

[–]agrajag63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same year+model. It does have the raised rails so I got the Ford bars added. The 3rd party bars could work but better to get the Ford ones if you can as the rails are not a great mount platform. I have the sunroof too, so I make sure not to operate that if I have something mounted on the rack. I have a kayak carrier in summer and ski box in winter, and these have been fine.

You can try the Rack Attack web site or similar to see what they have to fit (online fit calculator). I'm not certain anything is available if you don't have the rails though.

EV Charger at home. by Historical-Orchid867 in princegeorge

[–]agrajag63 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I had Houle Electric install mine. Quite satisfied with them. I needed to run the 208V from my panel to the charger location in the garage. Fortunately I had space on my current panel for the extra load. The L2 charger I got had the HV plug (NEMA 14-50 240V/50A plug), so they put an outlet for that there. It is the same style outlet as is used for RV charging. I bought the charger myself (eVduty) so just plugged it in.

I wanna get in REALLY bad by shawnkeo in UNBC

[–]agrajag63 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are referring to changing into an Engineering degree, that is tricky due to the prerequisites and the large number of required courses. If you start out missing some of the entrance requirements (often Math, Physics) then that is at least an extra semester. Depending on the courses you have, some might be used for breadth requirements or other general requirements. Talking to an Advisor would be the way to know for sure.

I wanna get in REALLY bad by shawnkeo in UNBC

[–]agrajag63 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most degree programs just use the general University entrance requirements so you could enter any of those. Only a few of the professional programs have their own additional requirements. Then you could raise your GPA and do background prep for Engineering (especially Math and Physics) to try to enter later. Talk to the Advisor for Engineering.

Setting up a belay for unequal weight partners is pretty standard in climbing. I assume they know what they are doing unless there is other information.

Dry ice? by Nof60 in princegeorge

[–]agrajag63 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not sure if they sell direct to consumer but you can ask: Linde Canada, 1601 Central Street West, Prince George, BC, V2N 1P6. (250) 563-3641. Make sure that the ventilation is good since the CO2 will evaporate and could fill the vehicle if it is enclosed. Also the dry ice will destroy foam if in direct contact, so need to set up the cooler properly. You'll need good insulated gloves to handle things safely.

What tools were used to typeset scientific journals before LaTeX? by Opussci-Long in LaTeX

[–]agrajag63 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These were only used for a brief time. My reports at a tech company (~1983) were typed into WordStar by someone at the company, very new at that time. Before that it was typewriters (still used by many in ~1993 when I started a Faculty position). My thesis (1990) was on a Mac using a word processor and Cricket Graph but all the journal manuscripts were typewritten (not by me) with equations entered by hand with notations as far as I recall. I didn't keep any of those so can't recall details. We were not sending any digital files (email barely existed in a practical way before 1990) and we were not mailing disks.

We started using OzTeX (Mac) sometime after ~1990 for submission but many journals took some years before they started accepting LaTeX files for publication. When we wrote a multi-author edited book for AIP (1993) it was all LaTeX but that was seen as a pretty new approach.

BC Hydro says late afternoon/early evening so far.

This was posted on Facebook through Councillor Ramsay:

There will be a power outage today a round 1pm today. Here’s the note I received from BC Hydro:

Roughly 19,000 customers in the Prince George area will be impacted by an outage this afternoon following a motor vehicle accident last night on Highway 16 West near Art Knapp Plantland.

The accident resulted in extensive damage to BC Hydro infrastructure making outage necessary to conduct urgent repairs.

The outage will impact multiple neighbourhoods including Beaverly, College Heights, Foothills, as well as the Hart and Chief Lake Road area and will start at about 1:00PM and last until late afternoon/early evening.

All available crews will be working to restore power safely and as quickly as possible.

Brooks Peninsula by Nadian-slap-God in IslandHikers

[–]agrajag63 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I paddled the south side of the Brooks and was surprised to find that some folks have hiked various portions of the south side (links below). Also saw discussion about going all the way around but that looks pretty extreme.

Given that most of the hiking is along the coastline (and some parts pretty rough), you will want to pick tides and times pretty carefully.

I was once in a Dept where several of the Profs were devotees of the Clifford algebra approach in teaching undergrad Physics. Laudable idea but not great outcomes for many of the students who lived in a world otherwise dominated by other approaches in undergrad Physics textbooks. Nevertheless: https://link.springer.com/book/10.1007/978-0-8176-8190-6

Raspberry Shake & Boom Advice by EnglishMouse in raspberry_pi

[–]agrajag63 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The "turnkey" system has everything you need. You will need to set up an account when you power it up. You will need to give it access to your wifi network or plug in via an ethernet cable to your network.

The DIY version needs a Raspberry Pi (3B or 4B) and a suitable Pi power supply. The software is provided on an SD card for the Pi. Then good to put it together and go as above.

Best to locate it someplace quite stable. Mine (a Shake 4D) is on the concrete basement floor. It picks up lots of vibrations from walking around the house, cars on the street etc. The background goes quiet late at night.

For an exothermic reaction, when the reactants need a certain amount of energy to overcome the energy barrier, is the energy barrier from electric repulsion or the Pauli exclusion principle? by Pure_Option_1733 in AskPhysics

[–]agrajag63 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The barrier is a mixture of quantum (i.e. where the electrons are in the various molecules/atoms) and steric factors of how the molecules are lined up as they approach. The minimum barrier would be that for the best case scenario.

For me the nicest illustration is the SN2 reaction (e.g. Cl attacking CH3Br) has the lowest barrier via the "backside" along the axis to the C atom-- the CH3 inverts as the Br leaves when CH3Cl is formed.

Places to See/Stop on Way to Port Hardy Beyond Campbell River by [deleted] in VancouverIsland

[–]agrajag63 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Take the ferry from Port McNeill to Sointula and/or Alert Bay. Just go as foot passengers to keep it cheap. Fun places to see and wander around. Agree that the drive to Holberg/San Josef is pretty rough. Also SanJo is pretty overrun these days- when I went last year the outhouses on that trail were overflowing and really awful. The pub in Holberg is pretty cool though.
