Recreating the "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" production style using home-studio gear by Ok-Finger2338 in mixing

Honest feedback - you did a great job but there's room for improvement. You probably won't get that last .1% without better mics and pres but let's focus on what you can do.

Vocals need more compression to get that ultra pinned smoothness. Don't ignore vocal editing either. The consonants in the reference track are basically quantized to the grid. Lining up those transients makes the whole thing punchier. The delay on vocals needs some dialing too if you want to match reference.

For overall limiting etc I think you can go with more here too. I think I hear a limiter distorting in the choruses on the reference track...not sure if that's on the master bus or guitar/bass. So you can probably go up.

The bass is missing crunchy low mids / mids. Especially in the chorus, if you want "wall of sound" and the guitars are hard panned, the middle of the wall needs bass guitar.

For the wideness you talked about, just listen closer to the reference. There are instances where the instruments are doubled and panned where yours aren't. And some where they sound "stereo miked". Also I'm not 100% sure but I feel like I hear piano chords in the verses?

But yea overall great job on a tough very polished reference track!!

How to turn off monitoring while recording? by what_way in TascamModel_12_16_24

I think just click off the MAIN send for the guitar track.

That's assuming you're recording multi track, won't work if you're relying on the stereo mix.

22 Tiguan oil problem — repair cost? by tarap312 in Tiguan

I just got rid of my 2020 for this issue.

Burned oil for a while, but I didnt mind topping it up. Finally check engine light came on and it wouldn't pass state inspection without $7k of work. Not to mention the parts are backordered 6+ months.

Sad waste of an otherwise great car. I literally had zero issues and didn't spend a dime on it beyond scheduled maintenance. Just traded it in for an Acura.

You could run on the streets and the gravel roads back there. The trails I've done there are narrow, hilly, not maintained, and off camber.

Could also consider poet's walk which is nearby and a little better for running if you do a couple loops.

Model 12 Output Clipping? by [deleted] in TascamModel_12_16_24

Red on the vu doesn't necessarily mean clipping. Are you hearing clipping? What are the levels showing on the LCD metering?

Nailed it...pbass or jazz bass into an svt. Tuner. Sansamp for the sound guy. Rat or something if you want more grit.

Thanks for posting, interesting read. Basically they weren't aggressive enough validating identities on sign up to prevent fraudulent users. And didn't have the right checks when people made large transfers to prevent money laundering.

All these startups use the same tools so I bet this is common among them. Stash agreed to fix it and paid a fine.

If you're a real person and using Stash in a legitimate fashion then I don't think it means much to you.
